A power plant water chemistry analysis apparatus and method relies upon water chemistry sensors to obtain power plant water chemistry data characterizing the chemical activity of a power plant water system. An analytical model processor is used to generate model predictions for the power plant water system. A statistical data fitting processor selects screened data from the power plant water chemistry data that corresponds to the model predictions. The screened data is processed by an artificial intelligence processor to derive power plant water chemistry diagnostic information. The artificial intelligence processor includes an expert system, rule base, plant water chemistry system simulator, and pattern recognition module.

Apparatus and method for analyzing chemical system data

A method of producing low volatility amines for power plant pH control by in-situ hydrolytic decomposition of a more volatile amine with a ring structure. A ring amine having a certain molecular weight and a volatility is introduced into the pressurized water reactor. The ring amine undergoes at least partial in-situ hydrolytic decomposition to produce at least one daughter amine. The daughter amine has a molecular weight equal to or greater than the ring amine and has a volatility less than the ring amine. The daughter amine, and the mixture of the daughter amine and the ring amine act to control the pH in the reactor. In an alternative embodiment, the ring amine undergoes complete decomposition to form at least one daughter amine, and the daughter amine(s) acts to control the pH in the reactor.

A solid state reference electrode which is stable over a wide range of temperatures, pressures and chemical conditions is provided. The subject reference electrode comprises a zirconia or yttria stabilized zirconia tube having a distal, closed end and a proximal, open end. An opening in the distal end of the tube provides for ionic conduction between the electrolyte inside of the tube and fluid outside of the tube. Inside the tube is an electrolyte containing zirconia, alumina, potassium chloride and silica. Positioned in the electrolyte composition, near the proximal end of the zirconia tube, is a sensing element. A sealing means at the proximal end of the tube seals the inside of the tube and connects the tube to a stainless steel casing. An electrical lead extends from the sensing element through the sealing means. The electrode comprises means for maintaining a constant temperature in the region of the electrolyte composition occupied by the sensing element.
