A media search query is received from a user at a client device. A media content query is sent to a media information database. The media content query is at least partially based on the media search query. Media content information is received from the media information database. The information is associated with a plurality of content instances selected from a plurality of content types. The content instances satisfy the media search query and are selected only from content sources accessible to the client device. The media content information is presented to the user of the client device.

The provided alert options may be such that they do not create additional distractions, and eliminate the need for the user to have to constantly check for upcoming appointments or events. Specifically, a user can utilize a device to receive alerts from an associated computing device. The alerts may be associated with applications and actions running on the computing device.

According to some embodiments, a plurality of media items having associated classes are collected and stored in a media item repository. Generic selection data for a plurality of users of the media repository is collected and stored. The plurality of users includes a particular user of the media item repository. A likelihood of a generic user selecting media items associated with particular classes is determined. A likelihood of a particular user selecting media items associated with particular classes is determined. A relative likelihood of the particular user selecting media items associated with the particular classes compared to the generic user is determined. A first collection of media items reflecting the relative likelihood is sent to the particular user. Each of the media items is selectable by the particular user.

Embodiments of a system (such as a computer system), a method, and a computer-program product (e.g., software) for use with the computer system are described. These embodiments may be used to provide one or more recommendations to a user based at least in part on monitored user actions while the user interacts with a support document (e.g., a website or a web page) that includes content for multiple support topics, such as help instructions associated with an application or a service. In particular, one or more support topics are associated with the monitored user actions using a supervised-learning model, and these support topics are recommended to the user. This supervised-learning model may be trained on portions of the content accessed by multiple users during multiple sessions. Moreover, in the supervised-learning model, content accessed by one of the users during a given session may be more relevant than content accessed by this user during the multiple sessions.
