A latch assembly having: a chassis; a latch bolt, movably mounted to the chassis for movement between a closed position for retaining a striker in the latch assembly and an open position for releasing the striker from the latch assembly; a pawl rotatably mounted to the latch assembly via a pawl pivot pin for rotation between an engaged position wherein the pawl retains the latch bolt in the closed position and a disengaged position wherein the pawl is disengaged from the latch bolt such that the latch can move to the open position; and wherein the pawl rotates about a surface of the pawl pivot pin comprising a first arcuate portion and a second arcuate portion, wherein a radius of the first arcuate portion is smaller than a radius of the second arcuate portion.

Latch assembly

A latch assembly is provided herein, the latch assembly having: a chassis; a latch bolt, movably mounted on the chassis and having a closed position for retaining a striker, an open position for releasing the striker; a first safety position between the closed position and the open position for retaining the striker; a first pawl having a first pawl engaged position at which the first pawl is engageable with the latch bolt to hold the latch bolt in the closed position and a first pawl disengaged position at which the first pawl is disengaged from the latch bolt thereby allowing the latch bolt to at least move towards the first safety position; and a second pawl having a second pawl engaged position at which the second pawl is engageable with the latch bolt to hold the latch bolt in the first safety position and a second pawl disengaged position at which the second pawl is disengaged from the latch bolt thereby allowing the latch bolt to move towards the open position.

A latch and a method for preventing a latch from failing to open while a connected handle is lifted are provided. The latch includes a primary pawl pivotally mounted to the latch. An end piece having a protrusion extending from it is fixed to the primary pawl. An inner lever is rotatably coupled to the end piece. The inner lever includes a tail adjacent the protrusion of the end piece. The inner lever is movable between a first position and a second position. A secondary pawl is pivotally mounted to the latch and is movable between a first position and a second position. A blocking lever is also coupled to the latch and movable between a first position and a second position. When the inner lever is in a second position, the tail abuts the protrusion and the blocking lever limits movement of the inner lever and the primary pawl.

Anti-relatch mechanism

A latch assembly includes a chassis, a latch bolt movably mounted on the chassis and having a closed position for retaining a striker and an open position for releasing the striker, and a pawl having an engaged position at which the pawl is engaged with the latch bolt to hold the latch bolt in the closed position and a disengaged position at which the pawl is disengaged from the latch bolt thereby allowing the latch bolt to move to the open position. The pawl is rotatably mounted via a pawl pivot pin about a pawl axis, and the pawl pivot pin includes a first arcuate portion having a first radius about the pawl axis. A cross-sectional area of the pawl pivot pin, taken perpendicular to the pawl axis, is greater than an area of a circle having the first radius.

A latch assembly is provided, the latch assembly having: a chassis, a latch bolt having a closed position and an open position, a pawl having an engaged position and a disengaged position, an eccentric arrangement defining an eccentric axis and a pawl axis remote from the eccentric axis, wherein when the pawl moves from the engaged position to the disengaged position the eccentric arrangement rotates about the eccentric axis to move the pawl axis from a first pawl axis position to a second pawl axis position, a retaining mechanism having a retaining position at which the pawl axis is held in the first pawl axis position and having a non-retaining position at which the pawl axis is allowed to move to the second pawl axis position, a release lever configured to move the retaining mechanism between the retaining position and the non-retaining position.

A latch mechanism for a vehicle door includes a latch bolt, a pawl biased into engagement with the latch bolt to maintain the latch bolt in a latched condition, and a manual release lever for operable linkage to a vehicle door handle. A power release member is movable to displace the pawl from an engaged position where the pawl engages the latch bolt to a disengaged position where the pawl does not engage the latch bolt. A clutch member is mounted such that movement of the pawl causes movement of the clutch member. The clutch member is movable by the manual release lever between a first rest position at which a break is created in a transmission path from the power release member to the pawl and a second position at which power actuation of the power release member moves the pawl from the engaged position to the disengaged position.

Latch mechanism

A lock mechanism for a vehicle door latch includes a lock actuator drivingly coupled to a lock link for movement of the lock link between a first position corresponding to a locked state of a latch and a second position corresponding to an unlocked state of the latch. The mechanism further includes a superlock actuator drivingly connected to a superlock link slidably mounted for movement of the superlock link between a third position corresponding to a superlocked state of the latch and a fourth position corresponding to a non-superlocked state of the latch. A fixed abutment surface and an inside lock lever are mounted such that movement of the lock link between the first and second positions may be achieved when the superlock link is in the fourth position. When the superlock link is the third position, the relative positions of the inside lock lever, the superlock link and the abutment surface prevent movement of the lock link between the first and second positions.

Lock mechanism

A door latch mechanism for a vehicle comprising a release lever operable by a door handle and a transmission path linkage containing a resiliently biased inertia device. During normal operation, the inertia device is biased to form a transmission path that transmits an unlatching movement from the release lever to release a latch bolt of the latch. If an impact on the vehicle creates an acceleration force above a predetermined level, the inertia device moves to break the transmission path, preventing the latch from being unlatched.

A latch assembly ( ) for releasably securing a door in a closed position, the assembly comprising an actuator ( ) with an actuator output, the actuator having a first relatively fast acting low force output mode and a second relatively slow acting high force output mode, the actuator output being interconnected with a latch bolt ( ) of the assembly such that the latch bolt may be relatively rapidly released by the actuator operating in its first output mode when the load required to unlatch the latch bolt is relatively low, but relatively slowly unlatched by the second output mode when the load required to unlatch the latch bolt is relatively high.
