According to examples, an apparatus may include a processor and a memory on which are stored computer-readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, may cause the processor to access a characteristic of a motor coupled to a carriage in a printer. In this regard, an ink cartridge may be mounted on the carriage and the characteristic may be of the motor during movement by the motor of the carriage. The processor may calculate an amount of ink in the ink cartridge based on the characteristic of the motor and may determine whether the calculated amount of ink differs from an estimated amount of ink in the ink cartridge. In some examples, based on the amount of ink in the ink cartridge differing from the estimated amount of ink in the ink cartridge, the processor may disable the printer and/or generate a notification.

Examples described herein include examples print media handling system including a first media guide assembly comprising a sensor assembly, and a second media guide assembly comprising a retractable pressure plate and disposed opposite the first media guide assembly to guide a print media along a path between the first media guide assembly and second media guide assembly, the pressure plate moveable about an axis perpendicular to the path between an actuated position and a retracted position.

In one example, a torque control system for a sheet media pick mechanism to move a top sheet of media from a stack of media sheets into a nip between a pick roller and a separator roller. The torque control system includes a sensor to sense a number of consecutive pick failures and a controller operatively connected to the sensor to reduce a torque applied to the separator roller during a pick attempt after each pick failure in an amount corresponding to the number of consecutive pick failures sensed by the sensor.

One example includes an apparatus comprising spaced apart rails, each of the rails including an opposing slot that extends longitudinally and parallel to each other and terminates at a stop located at an end of the rail. Support holders may attach to opposing sidewalls of a cassette body insertable between the rails. Elongated rods may link each rail and a corresponding one of the support holders. One end of each rod may fit in a respective slot to enable longitudinal movement of the rods relative to the rails, engagement between the one end of each rod and respective rail stop cooperating to enable rotation of the rods relative to the rails in a direction that is transverse to the longitudinal movement. Another end of each of the rods may be movably retained within a respective one of the support holders.

A non-transitory storage medium is disclosed herein. An example of the non-transitory storage medium includes instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to actuate a pick assembly of a media handling system to select a sheet of medium from a media stack and lower the media stack a predetermined amount and subsequently raise the media stack the predetermined amount upon failure to pick the sheet of medium from the media stack. The non-transitory storage medium may include additional instructions as disclosed herein. A media handling system and method of media handling are also disclosed herein.

Apparatus for advancing media through a hardcopy device includes a cylindrical guide wheel having a first radius mounted on a shaft having an axis transverse to a media feed path axis. A guide surface is spaced apart from the guide wheel and defines a media feed path between the guide wheel and the guide surface. A drive wheel having an extended portion that is concentric with the guide wheel, and which has a greater radius than the first radius is fixed to the shaft. A pinch roller communicates with the media feed path.
