An elongation ring adapted for use in a self-ventilated traction motor and for fixed placement between the non-driving end of the motor housing and a motor end shield. The ring has radial air outlet openings placed along its circumference and is adapted to enclose a fan wheel fixed on a motor driving shaft. A traction motor having such an elongation ring is also contemplated. The elongation ring provides a possibility to easily adapt a motor housing to different motor types such as a self-ventilated motor with the ring, or one with forced ventilation without the ring.

A cooling system for a brushed electrical machine includes a cooler configured to cool down a rotor and a commutator of the machine. There is a controller configured to adjust the cooling effect of the cooler in response to monitored rotor and commutator temperatures. The cooler includes a fan and an auxiliary motor configured to rotate the fan.

Photoconductive switch

A device having two opposite terminals interconnected by material layers for switching between a current conducting state and a state blocking transport of charge carriers between the terminals upon applying a voltage there across has as the material layers a first layer made of intrinsic diamond and a second layer arranged next to the first layer. The device switches to the conducting state by providing free charge carriers in the second layer for transport through the diamond layer through the voltage and the blocking state by stopping providing the free charge carriers for the transport. The diamond layer is adapted to take a major part of the voltage across the terminals in the blocking state.
