A well system includes a wellbore, a conductor extended within the wellbore, and a wellhead installation arranged at an opening to the wellbore. The wellhead installation includes a low-pressure surface wellhead housing (LPWH) having opposing upper and lower ends, an extension joint secured to the lower end at an offsite location prior to delivery to the wellbore, an extended casing head housing (ECHH) providing a body having opposing first and second ends and sized to be received within the LPWH, the second end being secured to an uphole end of surface casing at an offsite location prior to delivery to the wellbore, and one or more annulus valves extending through a sidewall of the LPWH to provide fluid communication with a conductor-casing annulus defined between the conductor and the surface casing when the ECHH is received within the LPWH.

A method of repairing wellbores includes setting a plug to isolate a wellbore flowpath within a plurality of concentric casing strings, milling a window through a radially innermost casing string of the plurality of concentric casing strings, via a casing milling tool, and radially outward towards one of a plurality of cement columns, cleaning out one of plurality of a cement columns between two of the concentric casing strings to expand the window radially, inserting a solid eutectic alloy into the wellbore flowpath above the plug, heating the solid eutectic alloy, via a heater inserted within the wellbore flowpath, to melt the eutectic alloy and allow the melted eutectic alloy to flow into the window, solidifying the melted eutectic alloy to form a solidified eutectic plug within the window, and drilling out the solidified eutectic plug to restore the wellbore flowpath through the eutectic plug.

A method includes running a eutectic alloy system downhole in a wellbore including a first casing string and a second casing string therein, activating a differential valve tool within the second casing to generate a primary annular seal within a casing-casing annulus defined between the first casing string and second casing string, pumping a flushing fluid into the casing-casing annulus above the primary annular seal via a first ported collar, melting a eutectic alloy blanket into a molten alloy within the flushing fluid in the casing-casing annulus via a heater, solidifying the molten alloy to establish a supplemental seal above the primary annular seal in the casing-casing annulus between the first casing string and second casing string, and pumping cement into the casing-casing annulus above the supplemental seal to form a cement column in the casing-casing annulus via a second ported collar.

A system and a method for controlling a subsea blowout preventer stack with a subsea well control system having sensors and a well control programmable logic controller. The sensors are coupled to the subsea blowout preventer stack and a subsea blowout preventer control system. The subsea blowout preventer control system operates the subsea blowout preventer stack. The sensors sense a condition of the subsea blowout preventer stack and the subsea blowout preventer control system and transmit a signal representing a value of the condition to the well control programmable logic controller. The well control programmable logic controller receives the signal from the sensors, compares the value to a preset value, and in response to the value greater than or equal to the preset value, and transmits a command signal to the subsea blowout preventer control system to seal a fluid flow through the subsea blowout preventer stack.

Controlling a subsea blowout preventer stack

A modular reamer shoe for connection to an end of a tubular structure, such as a casing or liner, for deployment in a wellbore includes a body configured for connection to the tubular structure (casing or liner). The body includes a first section and an adjacent second section. The first section is connected to the second section such that torque can be transmitted between the first section and the second section. The first section defines a starter reamer defined by a plurality of first cutting elements and second cutting elements spaced from the first cutting elements. The reamer shoe has a plurality of actuatable blades disposed within the second area of the first section. The plurality of blades moves between extended positions and retracted positions. A nose is connected to the first section of the body. The second section is actuatable and can move in an axial direction so as to move the body, including the nose, in forward/rearward directions.

The check valve is arranged such that a fluid flow travels in a downhole direction during operation of the float collar. The auxiliary flow passage includes an inlet upstream of the check valve and an outlet at a downhole end of the float collar. A rupture disk seals the inlet of the auxiliary flow passage. The rupture disk is configured to burst at a specified pressure differential.

Systems and methods include a computer-implemented method for handling loss circulation zones in wells. A tool is deployed on a work string. The tool includes isolation packers in an un-inflated state and a stinger in a closed position. The tool is run to a target depth along the work string. The isolation packers are inflated, setting the isolation packers in place adjacent to the stinger at the target depth. Circulation ports are opened after the isolation packers are inflated, exposing a diversion flow path. A cement slurry is pumped through the diversion flow path into a loss circulation zone. The circulation ports are closed after the cement slurry is pumped. The work string is disengaged from the stinger.

Cementing across loss circulation zones utilizing a smart drillable cement stinger

A method includes deploying a cementing assembly within a wellbore. The wellbore includes a loss circulation zone. The cementing assembly includes a work string and a liner assembly coupled to the work string. The liner assembly includes a polished bore receptacle, a liner hanger attached to a downhole end of the polished bore receptacle, a liner, and a cementing sub disposed between the liner hanger and the liner. The method includes anchoring the liner hanger on the casing of the wellbore, cementing an open hole annulus of the wellbore, and setting an annulus packer of the cementing sub on the. The method also includes cementing a casing annulus of the wellbore defined between an external surface of the cementing sub and a wall of wellbore.

Cement placement in a wellbore with loss circulation zone

Systems and methods include a system for deploying and using a customized logging-while-drilling (LWD) tool. A command is provided by a tool control system to a mechanical drive of a LWD tool to cause pads and caliper fingers of the LWD tool to extend radially, lock in place using a locking mechanism, and begin to capture downhole measurements while the LWD tool is deployed in a borehole of a well. Pressure pulse cycles produced by a series of distinct high and low flow rates by the tool control system are provided to create pulses to be detected downhole by pressure transducers. A measurement sequence for caliper and resistivity images is triggered by the tool control system. The measurement sequence is terminated by the tool control system to conserve energy.

Smart caliper and resistivity imaging logging-while-drilling tool (SCARIT)

Systems and methods include a method for using a smart retrievable service packer for pressure testing operations. A service packer is installed to a depth in a well. The service packer includes one or more radio frequency identification devices (RFIDs) positioned above and below a packer element of the service packer. A determination is made, by analyzing information received from the one or more RFIDs, that a pressure leak has occurred across the service packer. The pressure leak is reported to a surface receiver system at a surface of the well.

A wellbore assembly includes a wellbore string configured to be disposed within a wellbore. The wellbore assembly also includes a float collar coupled to a downhole end of the wellbore string. The float collar includes a housing, a check valve, and a sleeve. The housing includes a fluid outlet. The housing defines a fluid port that extends through a wall of the housing. The check valve is disposed within the housing between the fluid port and the fluid outlet. The sleeve is coupled to the wall of the housing uphole of the check valve. The sleeve moves, based on pressure changes of the fluid in the float collar, with respect to the wall of the housing thereby either exposing the fluid port and opening a fluid pathway from the bore to an annulus of the wellbore, or covering the fluid port and blocking the fluid pathway.

Opening an alternate fluid path of a wellbore string

A casing head support system (CHSS) for a casing head includes a casing head support unit (CHSU) having a tubular body with a support unit top end (SUTE) and a support unit bottom end (SUBE); a first conductor string extension joint coaxially fastened to the SUBE; and an internal load profile machined into an inner circumferential surface of the CHSU. The SUTE forms a coaxial connection with the casing head. The internal load profile supports a corresponding load shoulder on a conductor hanger. The CHSU contains a CHSU top preparation machined into the inner circumferential surface of the support unit. The CHSU top preparation is located at the SUTE. The CHSU top preparation mates with a corresponding casing head support unit running tool (CHRT) bottom preparation.

The tool configured to release a string in a wellbore includes: a cylindrical body with an uphole end defining a first set of internal threads and a downhole end defining a second set of internal threads; a sensor operable to measure strain in the cylindrical body, a magnetic field, or both; a release joint with an uphole end defining a first set of external threads and a frustoconical downhole end defining a second set of external threads, the release joint attached to the cylindrical body by engagement between the first set of external threads of the release joint and the second set of internal threads of the cylindrical body; safety pins rotationally fixing the release joint in position relative to the cylindrical body; and a drive system operable to rotate the release joint relative to the cylindrical body.

Releasing tubulars in wellbores using downhole release tools

An example method for monitoring drilling includes releasing a wireless data retrieval device within a drill string in a wellbore, forcing fluid downhole through the drill string such that the data retrieval device travels in the fluid through a fluid outlet in a drill bit connected to the drill string, receiving data in the data retrieval device from a wireless sensor disposed on or in a body of the drill bit, and transferring the data from the data retrieval device after the data retrieval device travels in the fluid through the fluid outlet. An example wellbore drilling system includes a drill bit that includes a body, a fluid outlet, one or more wireless sensors disposed on or in the body, and a waterproof data retrieval device configured to receive data wirelessly from the wireless sensor(s), the data retrieval device having a size smaller than an opening in the fluid outlet.
