The one or more processing devices are to establish a first wireless connection with a first device. The first device lacks resources to connect to a cloud service directly. The one or more processing devices are also to receive data from the first device, provide the data to the cloud service, and in response to detecting a migration condition, disconnect the first wireless connection to allow establishment of a second wireless connection between the first device and a second device such that the second device receives subsequent data from the first device and provides the subsequent data to the cloud service.

A wireless mesh network is configured to implement a latency-sensitive communication protocol in order to facilitate data communications between devices coupled to that network and configured to communicate with one another based on that protocol. Specifically, a node within the wireless mesh network receives a continuous stream of data that includes an N-bit sequence from an upstream device coupled to the wireless mesh network. The node transmits the N-bit sequence to a downstream node within the wireless mesh network. The downstream node re-creates the continuous stream of bits based on the received N-bit sequence, and then transmits the re-created continuous stream of bits to another device coupled to the wireless mesh network. By operating in conjunction with one another, the nodes within the wireless mesh network facilitate communication between the devices coupled to wireless mesh network according to the latency-sensitive communication protocol.

Technique for implementing a latency sensitive communication protocol in a wireless mesh network

In an embodiment of a wireless network, when a node joins the network and receives a routing advertisement, such a node transmits the routing advertisement to all its neighbors. The node then receives transmission from the neighboring nodes indicating interest in joining the advertised network. If more than a threshold number of neighboring nodes are interested in the advertised route, the newly joining node inserts the route advertisement in a beacon transmission. If there is not a threshold level of interest, the node unicasts only to the neighbors who indicated interest in the advertised network. In an embodiment, the node repeats the above steps on a predetermined time basis (e.g., one per day) in order to determine interest in the advertised route that may have newly arisen.

A node within a wireless mesh network performs a path analysis on an advertised path to an access point that has a cost value less than the cost value of the current primary path to the access point. Depending on the cost value difference between the respective cost values of the advertised path and the current primary path, the node may perform a different type of path analysis. Based on the result of that path analysis, the node may change paths to the access point and use the advertised path as the primary path. Further, the node maintains a secondary path so that, in the event that the primary path fails, the node can default to using the secondary path.

One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for a node within a network to adjust one or more routing parameters based on certain network parameters. A node monitors certain network metrics such as the mean time between routing drops. In response to changes in these network parameters, the node changes certain routing parameters, such as the holddown time. The node may store network metrics and associated routing parameters that result in preferred network operating conditions. The node may pre-load these beneficial settings upon the occurrence of a particular condition such as a system reset of the node. Moreover, a node may share these beneficial settings with neighboring nodes on the same network. One advantage of this approach is that cost savings are achieved when a node within a network may be installed without preconfiguring the node with specific routing parameters.

System and method for improving network convergence via adaptive routing techniques

A node within a wireless mesh network is configured to select a primary path through an access point and to designate that access point as the primary access point for the node. The access point then transmits a failover message indicating that the node designated that access point as the primary access point for the node at a particular time. When another access point receives the failover message, the other access point may determine that the first node has also designated the other access point as the primary access point for the node, and may then de-register the node and stop advertising a primary path to the node.

A cluster master actively participates in multicast control protocol communications with the cluster neighbors, while non-master member nodes, do not participate in the protocols' operation outside of the cluster. However, each cluster member maintains virtually the same protocol state, such that should the master become unavailable, another cluster member may assume the master role with minimum delay. New members to the cluster are synchronized by receiving initial protocol state information from the master. After the initial protocol state synchronization, cluster members actively monitor the network to acquire new protocol state information. In addition, cluster members exchange protocol state information between themselves that may not be obtainable off the network. Filtering of multicast data packets is performed by each cluster member, to load balance multicast data traffic across the cluster members.
