The invention provides an improved lighting module, the lighting module comprising an elongated carrier and a flexible circuit. The flexible circuit comprises a first section accommodating a plurality of LED light sources, a second section, and a connector for receiving power to power said plurality of LED light sources; wherein the connector is accommodated in the second section for receiving power to power said plurality of LED light sources and extends at least partly in the first section. The elongated carrier comprises first end-face and a second end-face, and extending there between comprises a first elongated main surface and a second elongated main surface, the second elongated main surface being opposite to said first elongated main surface; wherein the first section of the flexible circuit is connected to said first elongated main surface, and wherein the second section of the flexible circuit is connected to said second elongated main surface.

Lighting module

A lighting unit has an input connector which has a first terminal arrangement which connects to a protection circuit to engage a lighting driver in an initial connection of the lighting unit () and the lighting driver (), and a second terminal arrangement which connects to a light source. The second terminal arrangement is adapted to engage the lighting driver later than an engagement of the first terminal arrangement to the light driver. The protection circuit () is adapted to operate earlier than an engagement of the light source () to the lighting driver (). The protection circuit prevents current surges from being delivered by the lighting driver at the time of connection of the lighting unit. The protection circuit is only applied temporarily, before direct connection is made between the light source and the lighting driver.

The invention relates to a LED lighting system comprising a power supply circuit and at least one LED module. The power supply circuit comprises input terminals (K, K) for connection to a supply voltage source and output terminals (KK),and a driver circuit (I, II) coupled between the input terminals and the output terminals for generating a LED current out of a supply voltage supplied by the supply voltage source, and comprising a driver control circuit (II) with an input terminal (K) for receiving a current control signal and for generating a LED current in dependency of the current control signal. The at least one LED module comprises input terminals (K, K) for coupling to the output terminals of the power supply circuit, a LED load (LS) coupled between the input terminals, and a module control circuit for generating a current control signal as a square wave shaped signal comprising a first part having a first amplitude during a first time lapse representing a desired magnitude of the LED current, said module control circuit comprising an AC coupling of the current control signal to the input terminal of the driver control circuit.

LED lighting system

A holder () for holding a carrier () comprising solid state light emitters (), a lighting module, a luminaire and a method of manufacturing a holder for a lighting module are provided. The holder () comprises a light exit window (), a fastening element (), a contact surface () and at least two hooks (). The contact surface provides a stop position with which the carrier is in contact when the carrier is assembled in the holder. The at least two hooks are moveable between a clamping position and a sidewards position. When the holder is assembled to the carrier, i) and when said hooks are in the clamping position, said hooks are arranged for clamping the carrier between said hooks and the contact surface, and ii) when the holder is fastened to the mounting surface of the another object, said hooks are in the sidewards position, the sidewards positions is a position away from the carrier.

Driver device and driving method for driving a load, in particular a light unit

The invention relates to LED lighting system comprising a power supply circuit and one or more LED modules. The power supply circuit is equipped with input terminals (K, K) for connection to a supply voltage source and first and second output terminals (K, K), and a driver circuit (I, II) coupled between the input terminals and the first and second output terminals for generating a LED current. The driver circuit (I, II) comprises a driver control circuit (II) equipped with an input terminal (K) for increasing or decreasing the LED current in dependency of a signal present at the input terminal of the driver control circuit. The one or more LED modules comprise first and second input terminals (K, K) for connection to respectively the first and second output terminals of the power supply circuit, a series arrangement of a LED load (LS) and a current sensor (R) coupled between the input terminals, a module control circuit for generating a current control signal at an output terminal of the module control circuit and coupled to the current sensor and to a reference signal generator (R, R, R, Z) for generating a reference signal representing a desired magnitude of the LED current, wherein the current control signal has a first value in case the desired value of the LED current is lower than the measured value of the LED current and a second value in case the desired value of the LED current is higher than the measured value of the LED current, and coupling circuitry (D; Sg, DC, C, C) coupled during operation between the output terminal of the module control circuit and the input terminal of the driver control circuit, for communicating the first value of the current control signal to the input terminal of the driver control circuit and for blocking the second value, and wherein the signal at the input terminal of the driver control circuit has a default value when all the current control signals have their second value.

A lighting assembly () configured to be mechanically and electrically connected to a socket (), the lighting assembly comprising a lighting module () comprising a light source (), electrical contacting means () electrically connected to the light source and a heat spreader () in thermal contact with the light source; and a connector () being rotatable in relation to the lighting module (). The connector comprises connector locking means () for locking the lighting assembly to a socket through interaction with receiving locking means comprised in the socket when the lighting module is axially inserted into the socket and the connector is rotated relative to the lighting module and the socket, thereby bringing the electrical contacting means () into contact with corresponding receiving contacting means () comprised in the socket. Hereby, the space required for electrical contacting means in the lighting assembly and in the socket may be reduced as no space is reserved in the socket for rotation of the electrical connecting means.

A lighting module () having a connection end () for connection to a lamp holder (), and a light output end () for outputting light, wherein the lighting module (), at the light output end (), is provided with a mechanical interface comprising first () and second () protrusions extending in a direction parallel with a longitudinal axis () of the lighting module and being configured to interact with corresponding protrusions () on an identical mechanical interface to transfer at least one of a rotational force and a pulling force to the lighting module (), so that a device (') provided with such an identical mechanical interface can be used as a tool for connecting/disconnecting the lighting module (). A method is disclosed of controlling a LED, comprising driving the LED with a DC current for a first time, interrupting the DC current for a second time such that the first time and the second time sum to a period, determining at least one characteristic of the LED while the DC current is interrupted, and controlling the DC current during a subsequent period in dependence on the at least one characteristic. The invention thus benefits from the simplicity of DC operation. By operating at the LED in a DC mode, rather than say in a PWM mode, the requirement to be able to adjust the duty cycle is avoided. By including interruptions to the DC current, it is possible to utilize the LED itself to act as a sensor in order to determine a characteristic of the LED. The need for additional sensors is thereby avoided.

Method of controlling an LED, and an LED controller

A method of controlling an electronic ballast for a lighting circuit, the ballast including a bleeder, for use with dimmer circuits, by, in response to a mains supply being connected to the lighting circuit, determining whether a dimmer circuit is present in the lighting circuit; and in response to determining a dimmer circuit is not present, disconnecting the bleeder from the lighting circuit at least until the mains supply is disconnected. The method may be used during start, and the determination of whether a dimmer circuit is present is stored at least until the mains supply is disconnected. Determination of either a leading or trailing edge phase cut dimmer may be made by looking for deviation from the expected sine-wave voltage, either directly through temporal or voltage deviation, or indirectly by examining the second differential of the voltage with respect to time.

A driver for driving an LED uses PWM in a sequence of the periods. The driver has a modulo counter, that is reset after each period. The driver has a first adder for combining the count value with a quantity indicative of a shift of the LED's control pulse relative to the start of the period; a second adder for combining the count value with a width quantity indicative of a width of the control pulse; and a logic gate receiving the MSBs at the outputs of the adders and supplying the control pulse.

Rotating pulse-width modulator

A surge protection circuit is disclosed for an electrical Load which may be for instance an LED load which is directly connected to a supply such as mains supply, and comprises a plurality of switches which are distributed across a plurality of semiconductor die. A surge detector detects the start of a spike in the supply, which results from, for example the commencement or interruption of a nearby inductive load, and opens all the switches. By distributing the switches across multiple die the peak voltage across each is reduced relative to using a single die; thereby each die can stay within the absolute maximum voltage capacity. Each die may have its own surge detector; alternatively, a single surge detector may be used which communicates with the switches on each of the die. In an extension the bridge rectifier may be integrated into the circuit distributed across the die. In this embodiment additional inter-die clamping diodes are required to prevent unsafe floating of the edge connections of each die.

Surge protection circuit

The present invention relates to a dimmer control circuit () capable to detect whether a phase-cut dimmer is connected using an average signal (VDCI) derived from the mains voltage. The average signal (VDCI) or a signal (VDCI_ls) derived from (VDCI), ranging from a minimum value to a maximum value, is compared to a dimming threshold (Vdim_th) through a phase-cut detecting unit (). The comparison result is used to control the state diagram of a dimmer control logic () by selecting the step dimming mode (STD) or the phase-cut dimming mode (PCD). The output (OUT) of a switching unit () is determined by the state diagram of the dimmer control logic () in such a manner that the phase-cut dimming mode (PCD) is prioritized above the step-dimming mode (STD) and the maximum level of the STD states is depending on the mains voltage and application adjustable.
