An internal combustion engine has a plurality of cylinders, a main combustion chamber and a pre-combustion chamber for each cylinder, and overflow passage which opens into the pre-combustion chamber, a fuel injection device and an incandescent ignition arrangement including one or two bar-shaped parts extending into the pre-combustion chamber and arranged so that they are located outside of the projection of the inlet opening of the overflow passage in the pre-combustion chamber and extend with their tips in the edge region of the fuel stream provided by the fuel injection device.

In a fuel injection system including an injection distributor pump delivering fuel at a medium delivery pressure, a plurality of fuel injection valves each associated with a respective engine cylinder and each having a fuel injection opening for injecting fuel into its associated cylinder and a conduit leading to the injection opening, and a pressure booster associated with each valve and connected between the conduit of its associated valve and the pump for boosting the pressure at the opening from the medium pressure produced by the pump to a higher pressure required for fuel injection via the opening, the pressure booster associated with each valve being composed of a stepped piston having oppositely oriented end faces of unlike effective area, a housing in which the piston is slidably mounted and presenting a first working chamber associated with the larger end face of the piston and communicating with the pump, and a second working chamber associated with the smaller end face of the piston and communicating with the associated conduit, and a spring arrangement biasing the piston in one direction in the housing, each piston is composed of a first piston segment presenting the larger piston end face and a second piston segment separate from the first segment and presenting the smaller piston end face, the second segment presents a valve for selectively blocking communication between the conduit and the pump, and the spring arrangement is composed of two springs each acting separately on a respective one of the segments.

A system for driving a motor vehicle with a infinitely variable belt gear is provided with an engine transversely positioned to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. First and second drive-cone pulleys are provided for transmitting the rotational force of the engine. A clutch couples the engine with the drive-cone pulleys. A V-belt or chain drivingly connects the first and second output cone pulleys with the first and second drive-cone pulleys. A planetary gear drive with a sun gear, a ring gear, and a planetary gear carrier carrying planet gears is driven by the first and second output cone pulleys. A differential gear for driving the axles of the vehicle is coaxially positioned to the planetary gear with a drive gear coupling the differential gear with the planetary gear.

A drive aggregate for a heat pump includes a cylinder block defining cavities for forming at least one cylinder of an internal combustion engine and at least one cylinder of a compressor driven by the engine; a common crankshaft passing through the cylinder block for serving both the engine and the compressor; and a plurality of bearings mounted in the cylinder block and supporting the crankshaft. The cavities all have the same height dimension. There is further provided a valve plate sealingly secured in each cavity which forms a compressor cylinder. The valve plate which defines an end of the compressor cylinder formed by the respective cavity, is recessed with respect to the height of the cavity in which it is situated.

An improved internal combustion engine arrangement for providing increased fuel efficiency, reduced pollution, and an improved starter and generator arrangement. An internal combustion engine having a flywheel for equalizing non-uniformities of engine output torque has a first conventional clutch for shifting gears, and a second controllable clutch between the flywheel and engine for selectively disconnecting and stopping the engine during certain operating states of the vehicle. A combined starter-generator is provided having a toothed, windingless rotor fixed on the flywheel periphery and a stator surrounding the rotor and provided with windings both for generating current, and for imparting rotational force on the flywheel, which in turn starts the engine.

A device for automatically actuating a clutch arranged between the output shaft of the engine and the input shaft of a motor vehicle transmission comprises a servo coupled to the clutch for selectively actuating the clutch, a first detection device for measuring the speed of the engine output shaft, a second detection device for measuring the speed of the transmission input shaft, and a control device coupled to the servo means and to the first and second detection devices for controlling the servo as a function of the speeds of the engine shaft and transmission shaft and their second derivatives with respect to time.

Device for automatic actuation of an automobile clutch

An internal-combustion engine and a compressor driven by the engine are combined into an integrated structural unit by providing that some of the cylinders of a cylinder block are engine cylinders while some of the cylinders of the same cylinder block are compressor cylinders. Between the engine cylinder group and the compressor cylinder group there is provided a space for receiving a slide ring seal which is mounted on a common crankshaft and which extends between and sealingly engages a collar face rotating with the crankshaft as a unit and a bearing block supporting the crankshaft.

Heat pump compressor integrated in an internal-combustion engine

An internal combustion engine has an oil pan divided into two chambers that communicate with each other. The first chamber is at a distance above the bottom of the oil pan, which is also the bottom of the second chamber. Because the bottom of the oil pan is cooled by the slip stream the oil in the two chambers are at different temperatures. Suction lines lead from each chamber to a thermostat valve that connects them to a discharge line. The thermostat valve operates such that when the engine is cold the oil supplied to the discharge line is relatively hot oil from the first chamber and when the engine is hot the relatively cool oil from the second chamber is supplied via the valve.

An internal combustion engine has a plurality of air intake conduits, air intake nipples, an air filter operatively coupled to the air intake conduits, a sound insulating capsule covering the engine, and at least one inlet opening in the capsule for admitting intake air.
