The present invention provides a process for separating iodine from a NaCl brine, comprising the following steps: (a) providing said NaCl brine containing iodide, (b) adjusting the pH of said NaCl brine to be no greater than 1.5, (c) adding oxidizing agent, such as chlorine containing oxidizing agent, to said NaCl brine resulting from step (b) to obtain an oxidation-reduction potential in said NaCl brine of from 560 mV to 925 mV, the combination of said pH of no greater than 1.5 and oxidation-reduction potential of 560 mV to 925 mV resulting in the formation of an iodine-chlorine anionic complex, and (d) contacting nonionic adsorption resin and said NaCl brine from step (c) one with the other to adsorb said iodine from this brine, to obtain as a result thereof NaCl brine wherein the iodine content therein is preferably no greater than 100 ppbw, more preferably no greater than 10 ppbw.

The disclosure provides a process for removing dissolved niobium, titanium, and zirconium impurities from an iron chloride solution having an iron concentration of about 50 to about 250 grams/liter comprising: (a) heating the iron chloride solution comprising a compound selected from the group consisting of a niobium compound, titanium compound, zirconium compound, and mixtures thereof, in a vessel, at a temperature of about 120&#xb0; C. to about 300&#xb0; C., and at least autogenous pressure, to precipitate the compound as a solid; and (b) separating the solid from the iron chloride solution. The separation of the solid is accomplished by filtration, settling, or centrifugation. In one embodiment, the iron chloride solution is a byproduct of the chlorination process for making titanium dioxide.

Process for removing impurities from iron chloride solutions

The disclosure provides a process for removing phosphorus-containing colloids and their precursors from an iron chloride solution comprising: (a) heating the iron chloride solution comprising impurities selected from the group consisting of phosphorus-containing colloid, phosphorus-containing colloid precursor, and mixtures thereof, at a temperature of about 100&#xb0; C. to about 300&#xb0; C., at least autogenous pressure and for a period of time sufficient to transform the impurities into a filterable solid; and (b) separating the solid from the iron chloride solution. In one embodiment, the iron chloride solution is a byproduct of the chloride process for making titanium dioxide.
