A heating device for a lens barrel of an automotive camera assembly includes a heating element adapted to apply heat along the circumference of the lens barrel, and a tension socket and/or a tension ring adapted to press a ring-shaped part of the heating element against the lens barrel circumference. A camera system, an external rear view device, and a motor vehicle, each with at least one such heating device are also described.

A folding joint for attaching a rear view display device to a vehicle includes one or more hinge sections each of which is adapted to rotate relative to the vehicle, with each of the one or more hinge sections having a first end and a second end, and a biasing element comprising a spring, a coil, a wave spring, or other elastic member for biasing at least one of the one or more hinge sections in response to rotation of the folding joint, with the biasing element biasing at least one of a spring biased cam section and a biased clamping bolt. An external rear view display device for a vehicle may include the folding joint, and a vehicle may include two external rear view display devices.

A rearview device for a motor vehicle includes a camera arrangement for capturing a rearward traffic situation and a motor vehicle includes such a rearview device and a method for operating such a rearview device with an output unit which is partially reflective at least in regions, in particular a screen on which the rearward traffic situation captured by the camera arrangement is displayed as a camera image or this is visibly displayed by means of a conventional mirror image in the absence of a camera image and having a control unit for determining a degree of impairment of the camera image, the control unit, when a predetermined degree of impairment of the camera image is exceeded.

A heatable device for use with a vehicle-mounted image acquisition unit is disclosed. The heatable device includes a main body including a first end, a second end, an interior cavity, and a receiving portion. A transparent glass substrate fixed to the main body includes a transparent electrically-conductive coating on an inner surface thereof. At least one electrically-conductive unit contacts the transparent electrically-conductive coating on the inner surface of the transparent glass substrate, and may receive electric current selectively provided by a vehicle-mounted power supply and conduct the electric current to the transparent glass substrate, thereby selectively heating the transparent glass substrate. A sealing member may couple an opening in the receiving portion with at least a portion of a vehicle-mounted image acquisition unit such that the vehicle-mounted image acquisition unit has a field of view extending through the main body to an outside environment surrounding a vehicle.

An adjusting system for a rear view element of a rear view device for a vehicle, preferably a motor vehicle, comprises a drive housing with an electrical interface, a socket and a mounting plate for the rear view element. The socket is in particular in the form of a jack socket, having a first end attached to the drive housing and an opening accessible at a second end of the socket, which is located opposite the first end of the socket. The mounting plate for the rear view element comprises a pin, in particular in form of a jack plug, wherein at least part of the pin is suited to be inserted into the opening of the socket, and the pin is adapted to mechanically and electrically connect the mounting plate to the drive housing via the socket. Also, the adjusting system relates to a rear view device and to a method for manufacturing the rear view device.

A sliding clutch for an adjustment device of a rearview device of a motor vehicle comprises two plastic parts. A first part is formed as an external gear wheel having a first multiplicity of first coupling elements and a second part is formed as an internal shaft having a second multiplicity of second coupling elements. The two plastic parts rotate with one another up to a predefined maximum torque namely because a positive fit exists between the first and second coupling elements up to the predefined maximum torque. A rear view element folding device is disclosed for approaching at least one pivot position of an element housing relative to an element foot that can be mounted on the motor vehicle. The rear view element folding device locks or unlocks at least one resting position of the element housing relative to the element foot. A method for triggering such a rear view element folding device is also disclosed.

An adaptive cornering light system for a motor vehicle includes an exterior mirror head, housing at least one lighting module that having a plurality of LEDs arranged in sectors to provide different lighting functionalities. One LED or light sector is provided for adaptively illuminating a cornering area that extends along the side of the vehicle toward the front of the exterior mirror head. This 'cornering LED' is adaptively activated if the speed of the vehicle is below a threshold speed, or in response to additional optional parameters such as steering angle, turn-signal blinker activation, and running lights activation. Another LED or light sector may be used as a security light to illuminate or display a message on the ground in the door area adjacent the side of the vehicle. Interior lights are also disclosed. User input may also control options for illumination.
