Multilayer magnetic recording medium which is suitable for high recording densities and the recording of digital data, has very good electromagnetic recording properties and good surface smoothness and can absorb a large amount of lubricant in the lower layer and has at least one upper magnetic recording layer less than 0.5 &#x3bc;m thick and at least one lower layer which contains a magnetically soft pigment.

In the production of an anticopy film serving for covering documents against copying, opaque, strip-like coverings are applied by printing to the individual layers of a transparent, multilayer film in a mutually offset arrangement in such a way that the film appears opaque in the plan view, but transparent in an inclined viewing direction. To this end, a film web is printed with the coverings in sections corresponding to the layers, and the sections are subsequently folded over to give the layers.

The heat sealing film and a magnetic transfer strip contain an adhesive layer comprising thermoplastic, immiscible binder components. One component is spherical, amorphous and embedded in finely distributed form in a homogeneous layer of the other, highly crystalline components in such a way that the spherical component protrudes hemispherically from the layer. The spherical binder is a glassy solid up to at least 60.degree. C. and above 80.degree. C. is plastically deformable. The hemispheres protruding from the adhesive layer produce a uniform, fine roughness of the surface. Both heat sealing film and magnetic transfer strip are nonblocking up to at least 60.degree. C. and heat-sealable at temperatures greater than 80.degree. C. The adhesive layer imparts to a magnetic recording medium a uniform thickness of the adhesive joint and a permanent, temperature-resistant adhesive force.

The magnetic recording medium consists essentially of a polymeric substrate, a coherent, magnetic thin metal film applied to the surface of the substrate by a PVD method and, if required, a protective layer formed on the thin metal film. In order to achieve a large residual induction component in the plane of the film, in particular high residual induction in the transverse direction, the thin metal film contains a noble gas or noble gas mixture, preferably argon. During the coating of the polymeric substrate with the magnetic metal or with the magnetic alloy, the noble gas is fed directly and preferably tangentially to the substrate surface at a specific noble gas flow of from 1.0.multidot.10.sup.4 to 6.0.multidot.10.sup.4. In the plane of the thin metal film, the ratio of residual induction in the longitudinal direction to that in the transverse direction is from about 0.9 to about 1.8.

An anticopying film (2) for covering documents (1) appears opaque in vertical plan view (5) as a result of total reflection for protection against copying and appears transparent in the oblique viewing direction (6), the film having an irregular sawtooth structure (3). This makes it virtually impossible to produce an identical second film with the aid of which, by placing said second film on top, the effect of the anticopying film (2) might be eliminated.

An apparatus for checking deep-frozen food, which irreversibly indicates if an additional storage temperature has been exceeded, is described. A flat plastic bag having transparent walls, into which eutectic mixture having a liquid/solid phase transition in the range from 0.degree. to -50.degree. C. has been introduced, together with a magnetic dispersion consisting of finely divided magnetic pigments, has a heat-conducting connection to the material to be frozen. A magnetic stripe which contains a magnetically recorded pattern and which remains connected to the bag until the indicating apparatus together with the material to be frozen has been cooled below the limiting temperature is stuck to the bag. The magnetic stripe is then removed. If the permissible limiting temperature is exceeded, the optically or magnetically readable structure produced by the magnetic stripe in the indicator bag is eliminated, permitting easy checking of the deep-frozen food. The present invention permits many potential variations by combination of a plurality of applied magnetic stripes.

Flexible magnetic recording media consisting essentially of a web-like nonmagnetic substrate, a magnetic layer applied to one main side of the web-like substrate and a backing layer formed on the opposite main side of the substrate from a polymeric binder, at least one filler, at least one auxiliary pigment and a polyolefin having a spherical particle shape.
