A method and apparatus for switching from a first IPTV channel arranged to be delivered to a plurality of nodes, such as a broadcast or a unicast, to a second unicast IPTV channel. The first IPTV channel is received at an IPTV receiving node, such as a User Equipment. If it is determined that the first IPTV channel is no longer available, then an IPTV content provider capable of providing the same IPTV channel in a unicast as the first IPTV channel is identified. A message is then sent to an IPTV AS, the message including an instruction to switch to a unicast IPTV channel and an address for the identified IPTV content provider node. The IPTV receiving node then receives the IPTV channel unicast.

Switching between delivery methods in an IPTV communication network

A method for providing switching of a media session transmitted from a content server to a user equipment from a multicast to a unicast bearer. A preparation trigger recognised by the user equipment triggers a preparation phase wherein an application server prepares for an upcoming switch by re-configuring the media session and by providing the re-configuration data to the user equipment. Subsequent to the preparation phase, a second trigger triggers a release phase, wherein the multicast bearer is released, and the media session is resumed by the unicast bearer.

Method and equipment for providing unicast preparation for IPTV

The present invention relates to multicast communication systems and in particular to the implementation of a random access uplink channel, which can be used, e.g., for transmission of acknowledgement messages for received data. In order to prevent frequent collisions on said channel, the transmission of acknowledgement messages is spread at least over time or, additionally, with regard to another distinguishing channel property, e.g. a RACH sub-channel or RACH-signature.

A retransmission correction performed by counting means provided in a controlling radio network controller (RNC) within a radio access network in the counting of multimedia service joined mobile terminals located in a cell for a PTP/PTM transmission decision, in the case of a repetition of a multimedia service session. The retransmission correction uses an estimated number of the mobile terminals having received a previous transmission of said multimedia service session from any radio network controller.

PTP/PTM transmission decisions

A radio network control node acts across an Iur interface as a drift radio network control node () for a user equipment unit (UE) in a communications system supporting a multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS). The drift radio network control node () maintains a first counter for counting a number of events occurring at the drift radio network control node (). Registration of the drift radio network control node () with a core network node () is advantageously delayed until the counter has exceeded a first threshold value. In one example mode, the number of events occurring at the drift network control node () which is counted by the counter is a number of user equipment units for which a Iur linking procedure is performed for the MBMS session. In another example mode, the number of events occurring at the drift network control node () which is counted by the counter are time periods elapsed since an Iur linking procedure for the MBMS session has been performed for a predetermined user equipment unit.

Radio access node registration for multimedia broadcast multicast service

A method and user equipment in a mobile telecommunications system for conducting a multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) session. An MBMS-uplink channel is introduced for transmitting from the user equipment, MBMS participation requests prior to the session and acknowledgment messages when MBMS messages are received. Relevant charging information is collected from the user equipment using broadcast/multicast services when an acknowledgment message is received. The telecommunication system then sends a decoding key to the user equipment for decoding at least a part of the data that is broadcast by the MBMS service.

Method and arrangement in a telecommunication system

A method is disclosed for selecting mode of operation for a mobile station in a mixed telecommunication system comprising first and second core networks, wherein the mobile station is adapted for selective operation in either of first and second modes associated with the first and second core networks, respectively. When the mobile station enters a combined cell, it is furnished with specified information for use in selecting mode of operation, the specified information usefully being combined with information relating to history of the mobile station prior to entering the combined cell. The specified information may be parameters introduced in the cell broadcast system information, parameters which are introduced in the mobile station SIM information, or may be explicit signaling messages specifically directed to the mobile station. Specific information also may be a combination of parameters from each of these sources.

Network/cell/interface selection in mixed networks

In a method and system for improving the efficiency of TCAP transactions, a TCAP transaction is set up in a semi-permanent basis between two signaling points having frequent request-reply communication. The semi-permanent TCAP transaction is thereafter used for application dialogues between the two signaling points. Multiple application dialogues may be multiplexed in one TCAP transaction. Alternatively, multiple TCAP transactions may be multiplexed in one SCCP connection.

In a method of routing a short message with high or low priority from a service center to a mobile station in a public land mobile network providing both packet data service and circuit switched service, a choice is made, in advance, as to whether the short message should be received by the mobile station either via a specific one of the services or via any of the services. Based upon this choice in step, the priority of the short message sent from the service center, and an indication of whether the mobile station is reachable via one, both or none of the services, a route via one of the services, a route via both services or no route at all is selected. If a route via one of the services is selected, the short message is routed in accordance with the selected route. If a route via both services is selected, the route via the service having a higher preference than the other service is selected, and the short message is routed in accordance with the route via said service having the higher preference. If the routing of the short message to the mobile station is unsuccessful via the route via said service having the higher preference, the short message is routed in accordance with the route via the other service the lower preference.

Method of routing a short message and an apparatus for routing a short message

A system and method are provided for routing of a USSD message directly from an MSC/VLR to an external node. When a mobile station user enters a service code which the mobile station does not recognize as being associated with a known supplementary service, the mobile station forms a USSD message containing the service code which is sent to a MSC/VLR. If the MSC/VLR determines that the service code is one that is associated with an application residing in an external node, then the MSC/VLR routes the USSD message directly to the external node. Various methods and techniques can be used to provide the address of the external node to the MSC/VLR.
