Headgear for rugby and/or soccer, comprising: an inner layer () configured to accommodate a wearer's head; an outer layer () covering at least a part of the inner layer; a padding layer () between the inner and outer layers, configured to absorb and/or redirect energy of an impact between the headgear and an object; and a sliding interface () between the inner layer and the outer layer at which the inner layer and the outer layer are configured to slide relative to each other in response to an impact between the headgear and an object.

A cheek pad for a helmet, the cheek pad comprising: an outer layer; an inner layer; and a sliding interface between the outer layer and the inner layer; wherein the outer layer and the inner layer are configured to slide relative to each other at the sliding interface, in response to an impact to the helmet, and the inner layer is configured to contact a side of the wearer's face, when the cheek pads are arranged in the helmet and the helmet is worn.

A helmet comprising: an inner shell; an outer shell; a sliding interface between the inner shell and the outer shell; and a switch configured to be selectively switchable between first and second discrete modes, the first mode allowing relative sliding between the inner shell and the outer shell at the sliding interface in response to an impact to the helmet, the second mode preventing relative sliding between the inner shell and the outer shell at the sliding interface.

According to an aspect of the invention there is provided a combat sports glove comprising: an inner layer configured to accommodate a wearer's hand; an outer layer covering at least a part of the inner layer; a padding layer between the inner and outer layers, configured to absorb energy of an impact between the glove and an object; and a sliding interface between the inner layer and the outer layer at which the inner layer and the outer layer are configured to slide relative to each other in response to an impact between the glove and an object.

A helmet having an energy absorbing layer, an outer layer that is harder than the energy absorbing layer and a plurality of outer plates mounted on the outer surface of the outer layer is provided. The outer plates on the outer layer can slide across the outer layer. A low friction interface between the outer surface of the outer layer and at least a part of the outer surface of the outer plates contacts the outer surface of the outer layer under an impact.

Apparatus at a protective helmet

A protective helmet ( ) has an outer shell ( ) and an inner shell ( ), the outer shell being displaceable relative to the inner shell by means of at last one sliding layer ( ) arranged between the the outer shell and the inner shell. In the edge region of the helmet, the outer shell and the inner shell are interconnected by means of members ( ), for absorbing energy on displacement of the outer shell on the inner shell. In this way, impact energy from an oblique impact against the helmet can be absorbed during displacement between the outer shell and the inner shell.
