A vacuum switch includes a mechanism for opening and closing the contacts including a drive link, three toggle links and a drop link. The drive link is coupled to the movable contact of the vacuum bottle and to a mounting tower. The drive link is also coupled to two of the toggle links. The toggle links are coupled to the drop link, which is in turn coupled to a lever. A cam is coupled to the lever via a pin. The cam is also coupled to an over-center spring mechanism. A handle is used to rotate the pin to which the cam is coupled, which in turn rotates the cam. As the cam rotates, the spring mechanism prevents movement of the lever and various links until a predetermined amount of energy is stored in the spring. When this energy level is reached, the spring assembly pivots, thereby allowing the cam to pivot as well. The pivoting cam strikes the lever and causes it to move. The lever in turn imparts motion to the drive system via the drop link. The contacts may be opened or closed depending upon the direction of rotation of the handle.

Method of making a multi-section power capacitor with all-film dielectric

A method for making an electrical bushing having an enlarged intermediate portion and reduced portions at opposite ends. The method is characterized by the steps of mounting an annular flange around one of the reduced portions to form a peripheral gutter adjacent to the one portion, mounting a cap on the other of the reduced portions to form a peripheral gutter adjacent to the other portion, placing a solid solder ring in each gutter, and with the open sides of the gutters upright, heating the solder rings to a molten temperature and cooling the molten solder to below its melting temperature in order to provide a joint between the flange and the one portion and the cap and the other portion.

Multi-section power capacitor with all-film dielectric

A power capacitor and method of making it employs the technique of stacking capacitor sections together in an enclosure of which each section includes rolled electrode foils and dielectric layers of which at least one of the electrodes has a rolled edge resulting in a greater thickness in that portion of the section. In order to permit thorough impregnation of the section, the winding tension is deliberately made loose and the initially resulting section is insufficiently tight to retain conductive tabs reliably in contact with the foil electrodes. The stacked sections have, however, between them in the body portion intermediate the rolled edges, one or more sheets of material that compress the body portion and insure reliable pressure contact thereat while not interfering with the impregnation of the fluid throughout the section.

For apparatus, such as voltage surge arresters, having frangible elements, a mounting structure with springs that permit minor, harmless motion of the apparatus and a collapsible frame that yields in a ductile failure mode upon occurrence of movement exceeding that which can be absorbed by the springs before damage to the apparatus occurs.

Apparatus mounting arrangement for avoiding harm due to seismic shocks

A wide-range current limiting fuse assembly particularly adapted to protect capacitors. The device comprises a current limiting portion having a corrugated fusible ribbon for high fault current protection, and a low current portion having a fusible link surrounded end to end by a conductive metal sleeve connected to one terminal of the fusible link. The current limiting portion may, alternatively, be provided with a circularly cross sectioned fusible wire connected in series with the fusible ribbon.
