A rotational intravascular ultrasound probe for insertion into a vasculature and a method of manufacturing the same. The rotational intravascular ultrasound probe comprises an elongate catheter having a flexible body and an elongate transducer shaft disposed within the flexible body. The transducer shaft comprises a proximal end portion, a distal end portion, a drive shaft extending from the proximal end portion to the distal end portion, an ultrasonic transducer disposed near the distal end portion for obtaining a circumferential image through rotation, and a transducer housing molded to the drive shaft and the ultrasonic transducer.

Rotational intravascular ultrasound probe and method of manufacturing the same

A drive assembly for driving an imaging catheter has a rotatable fiber and a rotatable drive shaft. The drive assembly includes a fiber optic rotating junction and a motor configured to rotate the rotatable portion of the fiber optic rotating junction. In some embodiments, the drive assembly includes a sensor configured to detect a rotational position of the fiber optic rotating junction and a processor configured to obtain the detected rotational position and stop the motor only when the fiber optic rotating junction is in a predetermined rotational position. In some embodiments, the motor includes a hollow shaft through which at least a portion of the fiber optic rotating junction extends.

Atherectomy catheter drive assemblies

A catheter device for crossing occlusions includes an elongate catheter shaft, a rotatable tip configured to rotate relative to the elongate catheter shaft, a drive shaft, and an OCT imaging sensor. The rotatable tip includes a central guidewire lumen, a distal grinding surface, and a fluted portion. The distal grinding surface can be substantially perpendicular to the guidewire lumen and include divots and sharp points that form pyramidal features, where the sharp points extend distally from the distal grinding surface. The fluted portion can have flutes extending around a circumference of the rotatable tip proximal to the distal grinding surface. The fluted portion may not include the divots and sharp points that form the pyramidal features of the distal grinding surface.

Occlusion-crossing devices

An imaging device includes a hollow flexible shaft having a central longitudinal axis and an imaging window therein. An optical fiber extends within the hollow flexible shaft substantially along the central axis. A distal tip of the optical fiber is attached to the hollow flexible shaft and aligned with the imaging window so as to transfer an optical coherence tomography signal through the imaging window. A handle is attached to the hollow flexible shaft configured rotate the hollow flexible shaft at speeds of greater than 1,000 rpm.

Chronic total occlusion crossing devices with imaging

An insect separating apparatus may include a sensor positioned to detect one or more insects when present within a test chamber. For example, the sensor may emit signals into the test chamber and receive reflected signals indicative of Doppler shifts caused by movement of the one or more insects. Based on information from the sensor, a computing device may determine a characteristic of the one or more insects in the chamber, such as a wing beat frequency, sex, or other characteristic. The computing device may instruct different responses based on the characteristic determined, such as activating an air mover to divert detected mosquitos out of the test chamber in response to the determined characteristics matching those of female mosquitos, or deactivating or maintaining the air mover in an inactive condition in response to the determined characteristics matching those of male mosquitos, for example, to allow passage through the chamber into a collection receptacle.

Rotational intravascular ultrasound probe and method of manufacturing same

Optical pressure sensor assemblies that can be used with existing catheters and imaging systems. Pressure sensors may be compatible with atherectomy and occlusion-crossing catheters, where intravascular pressure measurements at various vessel locations are needed to determine treatment efficacy. The pressure sensors may employ an optical pressure measurement mechanism using optical interferometry, and may be integrated with existing imaging modalities such as OCT. The pressure sensor assemblies may include a movable membrane that deflects in response to intravascular pressure; an optical fiber that transmits light to the movable membrane and receives light reflected or scattered back from the movable membrane into the fiber; and a processor or controller configured to determine the distance traveled by the light received in the fiber from the movable membrane, where the distance traveled is proportional to the intravascular pressure exerted against the membrane.

Devices, systems, and methods for transporting or transferring insect pupae in an aqueous solution are described. The system includes a tank containing a solution with insect pupae, a transfer chamber having an outlet at a bottom portion of the chamber, a solution inlet, an evacuation channel, and a depth measurement system. A tube fluidly connects to tank and the transfer chamber. An evacuation device connected to the evacuation channel removes air from the transfer chamber and generates a vacuum therein to draw the solution through the tube into the transfer chamber.

Atherectomy catheters and occlusion crossing devices

Devices are provided to automatically access blood from beneath or within skin. These devices include a plurality of injectors configured to drive needles into the skin and draw samples of blood into the device. These devices additionally include a plurality of sensors which can detect a target analyte in the blood samples received by the device. These devices further include a user interface, which may prompt the user to self-administer a dose of a substance, or accept a user input which could affect or otherwise influence the activation of the device (i.e., the firing of needles to draw blood samples into the device and detect an analyte). These devices can be wearable and configured to automatically access blood from skin, for example, to access blood from the skin at one or more points in time after the user has self-administered a dose of a substance.

Apparatus for automated glucose tolerance testing

An apparatus and methods for tracking administering of medication by syringes is provided. The apparatus may include a plunger head for a syringe. The plunger head may include a transducer that sends and receives ultrasonic signals. The plunger may also include an antenna and a microcontroller that interfaces with the transducer and the antenna. The plunger may also include a power source that powers the microcontroller and the transducer. The transducer, the antenna, the microcontroller, and the power source may be at least partially encapsulated in an elastomer housing that fits within a barrel of the syringe. The microcontroller may be programmed with instructions to calculate data representative of the quantity of medication dispensed from the barrel and transmit the data to a remote device via the antenna.

Apparatus and methods for tracking administering of medication by syringe

A catheter device for crossing occlusions includes an elongate catheter shaft, a rotatable tip configured to rotate relative to the elongate catheter shaft, a drive shaft, and an OCT imaging sensor. The rotatable tip includes a housing coupled with the elongate catheter shaft and cutting wedges extendable from the housing. The drive shaft has a central lumen extending therethrough and extends within the elongate catheter shaft. The drive shaft is coupled with the wedges and is configured to rotate the rotatable tip. The OCT sensor includes an optical fiber coupled with the rotatable tip and configured to rotate therewith. The elongate catheter shaft is configured to move axially over the drive shaft to extend and retract the wedges from the housing while maintaining a fixed position of the imaging sensor relative to the cutting wedges.

Devices for micro-fluid mixing micro-fluids are presented, together with example methods for micro-mixing using example devices. An example device may include a micro-volume fluid chamber (&#x3bc;VFC), a micro-volume mixing chamber (&#x3bc;VMC), and a source of a target micro fluid. The &#x3bc;VFC may include two slidably-mounted piston segments that divide the &#x3bc;VFC into three sub-volumes, one of which initially contains a mixer micro-fluid. The source of the target micro fluid may be triggered to deliver the target micro-fluid into another of the sub-volumes via an inlet channel. A propellant may be triggered to drive axial motion of the piston segments, causing the sub-volumes to compress. Through this action, the mixer micro-fluid may be expelled via a first outlet channel into the &#x3bc;VMC, and the target micro-fluid may be expelled via a second outlet channel into the &#x3bc;VMC. As the piston segments move, they block and unblock the inlet and outlet channels.
