A method for manufacturing a tear-off lid (). A lid blank () is punched with a punching tool () having a die () and a cutting punch () to form a lid ring () with a central removal opening () surrounded by a sealing flange (). The edge of the removal opening () is then formed by drawing to a collar () projecting from the sealing flange () on the intended inside of the lid (underside), the collar () is rolled up at its free end and a tear-off foil () is sealed or glued onto the sealing flange () on the intended outside of the lid (upper side). In accordance with the invention, the die () is arranged on the inner side (bottom) of the lid and the cutting punch () is moved into the die () from the outer side (top) of the lid while punching out a punched pad () and the punched pad () is conveyed by compressed air through the die () to a conveyor () by means of which it is removed from the tool area. It has been shown that by this measure the known and established processes and devices for the production of tear-off lids can be modified with very little effort in such a way that during the punching of the lid blank () the punching or cutting pad is produced on the intended inner side (underside) of the produced lid ring (), which is desirable when producing lids with 're-verse curl'.

In the area of manufacturing covers with tear-open foils, the cover blanks, or covers are always secured against an undesired take-off from the transport means during the transport and the processing. This allows a very high manufacturing cadence equally for light covers and particularly for aluminium covers.

The invention relates to a processing device for covers (), wherein processing stations are embodied as individual processing stations () provided with, respectively, one tool for one cover. Several of said stations work in parallel for the simultaneous processing of several covers. If need be, stations can also be used wherein several tools form groups which are functionally separate from each other. As a result, the processing precision and production speed of the objects can be increased.

An air-permeable support () in the measuring chamber exerts pressure on the upper face of the lid and any increase in air pressure in the measuring chamber caused by a degree of permeability is detected and evaluated by a sensor (). A burst test can be carried out in the same test device.

The invention relates to a linear conveyor device () for objects (), whereby the objects are taken by drive tongues (), arranged on circulating toothed belts (). The objects are secured against lifting off the conveyor device, particularly mechanically, by a cover strip (). Light objects can thus also be conveyed at high rate in intermittent operation.

A method for the manufacture of welded tubes is provided. The tube bodies are produced in a press or rounding apparatus and are fed to a welding machine, such as a laser or electron beam type welding machine. The tube is formed when the edges of the tube bodies are welded together. The method includes the transfer of the tube bodies from the press or rounding apparatus to the draw-in of the welding machine. One or more transfers modules, each having a separate drive, are used to convey the tube bodies. During manufacture of certain hollow profiles suitable for use in car body construction the welded profiles are subjected to a further deformation process, namely hydroforming. At present the corresponding welding machines are charged manually. The invention relates to a method and a device for transferring hollow-profile blanks, characterized in that during transfer the positioned fusion faces of the blanks are pressed against each other at least in the area of the weld.

For tube welding, use is made of a locator element intruding into the tube and running with the tube, to position the edges of the tube-round ahead of the welding point with its laser beam ( ). The running locator element has a plurality of stops ( ) arranged on a driven revolving chain ( ). Forming elements ( &prime;) act on the outside of the tube-round to position the edges. A precise edge-positioning for welding, in particular for tube welding, can thus be achieved.

A number of tubes that are about to be welded, or have already been welded, are positioned on a table. The seam of each tube is welded by a laser welding unit. While one tube is being welded, it is possible to load the other positions of the table with tubes for welding and/or to unload tubes that have already been welded. This makes it possible to obtain optimum utilization of the laser welding unit. A sensor is used to detect the positioning of the welding edges and a tube is rotated if necessary to properly position the tube for welding.

Above containers transported on a conveyor, the apparatus is provided with a continuous revolving belt, which has perforations. These are in communication via passageways with fixed fluid couplings and the drive to the belt is set so that they move in step with the containers along the conveyor path. Thus, by simple means, a connection is provided between the moving containers and the fixed fluid couplings, and the system is suitable for high conveying speeds.

On a distributor head for distributing gas samples removed from bottles requiring inspection to the connections for two mass spectrometers, the feed passageways form alternative paths. These different paths are contained in a replaceable part or a switchable valve arrangement. This allows easy changeover from operation with two mass spectrometers to operation with one mass spectrometer, so facilitating servicing of the mass spectrometers.

Apparatus for the inspection of containers

A disk-like sampling head is arranged above a linear section of a conveyor path with a continuous flow of bottles. The sampling head is rotatable about an axis oriented transverse to the conveyor path, and preferably the axis is a horizontally-oriented axis. Rotation of the sampling head is synchronized with the continuous flow of bottles. The apparatus is particularly simple and inexpensive.

Container inspection apparatus

Two destacking tables and two can body forming stations are provided, the latter forming cylindrical can bodies from the metal sheets stacked on the destacking tables. These can bodies are subsequently conveyed along the feed axis to the welding station, which welds the longitudinal seam of the can bodies. The provision of two destacking tables and two can body forming stations enables these elements to operate at the cycle rate of the welding station. This permits welding to be effected with an increased cycle rate, with reliable feeding of the can bodies despite this.
