Ethane and higher hydrocarbons are separated by rectification from natural gas under elevated pressure. To obtain higher ethane yields, even for gases poor in ethane, an open mixture cycle with multistage fractional condensation is employed for the production of cold. One part of the thus-obtained condensates are introduced into the rectifying column to obtain the C.sub.2+ hydrocarbons and the other part is recirculated to provide the required cold.

Separation of ethane and higher hydrocarbons from natural gas

Process for treating a gaseous mixture under pressure to remove unwanted components from a gas, including methane, ethane, hydrogen, nitrogen, such components as C.sub.3, C.sub.4 and C.sub.5 higher hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide. The gaseous mixture is fractionated under pressure to remove in bottoms product portions of higher hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide. The overhead product is scrubbed to remove in a suitable solvent a substantial portion of or all of the remaining higher hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide.

Process for treating pressurized gases to remove unwanted components

In the separation in a rectification column of methane and optionally lower-boiling components from a methane-containing crude gas, which gas contains additionally higher-boiling hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, or mixtures thereof, wherein an auxiliary cycle containing a fluid medium is employed for the production of cooling to produce reflux liquid at the head of the rectifying column, an improvement is provided wherein liquid in the rectifying column positioned above the column sump and below the column head, is vaporized in indirect heat exchange with condensing cycle medium.

Distillation of methane from a methane-containing crude gas

Process for the at least partial liquefaction of a low-boiling gaseous mixture, which is under pressure, wherein the gaseous mixture is precooled in heat exchange with a vaporizing refrigerant, purified during the course of the precooling step, and, after the precooling step, is subjected to a preliminary separation, characterized in that the at least partial liquefaction of the gaseous fraction obtained during the preliminary separation is carried out in heat exchange with a vaporizing multicomponent gas, the partial liquefaction of which takes place by precooling, and the completed liquefaction and subcooling of which takes place in one stage against itself.
