A communal computing device, such as an interactive digital whiteboard, can become unlocked if a user is near the device. The communal computing device may use a sensor such as a camera to capture images of a person and obtain an identifier from a personal device such as a smartphone. A cloud-based provider that is trusted by both the communal computing device and the personal device may associate both the image and the identifier of the personal device with the same user identity. Obtaining the user identity from multiple, different sources provides a secure technique for the communal computing device to recognize a user without the user directly interacting with the communal computing device. If the sensor no longer detects the user or the personal device is no longer detected, then the communal computing device may log off the user. The personal device may be used to confirm log off.

Proximity-based unlocking of communal computing devices

Aspects of the present disclosure include systems and methods for generating and managing user authentication rules of a computing device. In an example, a computing device may include a memory storing instructions and a processor communicatively coupled with the memory and configured to execute the instructions. The processor may determine a state of the computing device, wherein the state of the computing device is one of a locked state or an unlocked state. The processor may determine a user authentication rule corresponding to the state of the computing device. The processor may also identify whether a combination of signals associated with the user authentication rule of the computing device are received by the computing device. The processor may also change or maintain the state of the computing device based on the combination of signals being received.

Authentication rules for locked and unlocked states

A user provides an identification (ID) signal (e.g. a biometric ID signal like a self-snapshot) to a trusted cloud-based provider. When the user attempts to authenticate with the cloud-based provider, a similar ID signal (e.g. another self-snapshot) for the user is captured and provided to the cloud-based provider. The cloud-based provider then obtains a secondary ID signal, or a combination of secondary ID signals, and utilizes the secondary ID signal, or signals, to identify a subset of user records to be searched for the ID signal. The subset of the records, rather than all of the user records, can then be searched for the ID signal. The cloud-based provider can then authenticate the user based on the results of the search of the subset of the user records.

Authenticating users of communal computing devices using a limited search scope

A multi-user computing device, such a communal computing device like an interactive digital whiteboard, can execute single user aware ('SUA') applications and multi-user aware ('MUA') applications. Instances of SUA applications execute in the context of a single user. MUA applications can execute in the contexts of multiple authenticated users simultaneously. A multi-user aware OS platform authenticates and de-authenticates users of the multi-user computing device. The multi-user aware OS platform provides notifications to MUA applications when users are authenticated and de-authenticated. When a new user is authenticated, MUA applications begin executing in the context of the newly authenticated user and any other previously authenticated users. When users are de-authenticated, MUA applications stop executing in the context of the de-authenticated user but continue executing in the context of the remaining authenticated users of the multi-user computing device. Data associated with the de-authenticated user is removed from the multi-user computing device.

Systems and methods for generating and managing user authentication rules of a computing device

A communal computing device, like an interactive digital whiteboard, can detect the start and end of user sessions with the device. When a communal computing device detects the end of a user session, the it can determine if a personal device that was connected at the start of the user session or during the user session was also connected at the end of the user session. If so, the device can initiate actions based on the session start or end signals such as, but not limited to, transmitting a message to an organizer of a meeting scheduled during the time of the user session, transmitting a message to a participant of a meeting scheduled during the time of the user session, transmitting a message to an administrator, or generating a notification, such as a user interface reminding a user to take their personal device.

Scoping the lifetime of personal devices connected to communal computing devices

A communal computing device such as an interactive digital whiteboard can provide progressively more access to functionality and data on the device based on a level of certainty in the identity of a user. If a user is identified based on one or more low-fidelity identification signals such as an image of the user or a device identifier, the communal computing device may provide a first level of functionality that is limited. If the user requests greater access, the communal computing device can request that a trusted cloud-based provider authenticate the user by way of a personal device, such as a smartphone. The authentication may be a password or high-fidelity biometric identification. The cloud-based provider communicates successful authentication to the communal computing device and it, in turn, provides the user access to higher, second level of functionality.

Progressive access to data and device functionality

A multi-user aware ('MUA') computing device, such a communal computing device like an interactive digital whiteboard, can enforce role-based constraints on the modification of components, such as configuration settings. The MUA computing device can be configured with universal settings, global settings, and temporal settings. Universal settings cannot be changed by users of the MUA computing device. Device owners can change global settings that apply to all users of a MUA computing device. All users of the MUA computing device can change temporal settings. Changes to temporal settings are stored in profiles associated with authenticated users but are not persisted for guest users. When all users have stopped using the MUA computing device, the device can be configured with default values for the temporal settings in order to return the device to a known state.

Enforcement of role-based constraints on the modification of components of a multi-user aware computing device

Techniques are described herein that are capable of causing a control interface to be presented on a touch-enabled device based on a motion or absence thereof. A motion, such as a hover gesture, can be detected and the control interface presented in response to the detection. Alternatively, absence of a motion can be detected and the control interface presented in response to the detection. A hover gesture can occur without a user physically touching a touch screen of a touch-enabled device. Instead, the user's finger or fingers can be positioned at a spaced distance above the touch screen. The touch screen can detect that the user's fingers are proximate to the touch screen, such as through capacitive sensing. Additionally, finger movement can be detected while the fingers are hovering to expand the existing options for gesture input.

Presentation of a control interface on a touch-enabled device based on a motion or absence thereof

A prosthetic repair system includes a prosthesis for repairing a defect in a tissue or muscle wall. A material delivery device is provided for delivering a material, such as an adhesive material, to a surface of the prosthesis and/or to particular locations between the prosthesis and the tissue or muscle wall to attach the prosthesis to the wall. The delivery device may be coupled to the prosthesis and configured to distribute the material from one side of the prosthesis to an opposite side that is to face the defect. The delivery device may include a manifold and conduits for delivering the material from the manifold to one or more desired locations. The conduits may penetrate into and/or through the thickness of the prosthesis. After delivery and distribution of the material, the delivery device may be removed from the prosthesis and withdrawn from) a patient.

Prosthetic repair system and method of use

Disclosed are methods, apparatus, and systems useful for detecting leaks in pleural tissue. Also disclosed are methods of detecting and sealing such leaks. Indicator dye or stain is aerosolized and delivered to the lung via anesthetic equipment, oxygen tube, endoscope, or other suitable equipment, the dye is allowed to travel through the lung along the path or paths of least resistance emerging at the surface of the lung, staining the tissue indicative of a leak. Some embodiments include introducing one part of a two part sealant with the dye, and applying the second part of the sealant to the stain identified leak locations.

A nozzle tip assembly comprises a nozzle housing and a break-up insert. The nozzle assembly is adapted for receiving multiple pre-cursor fluids from multiple lumen. The pre-cursor fluids are kept substantially separate and forced around the break-up insert into a channel formed between the insert and the nozzle housing. Fluid is forced into fluted channels on a distal end of the break-up insert into a swirl chamber where mixing occurs prior to being expelled through an exit orifice in the nozzle housing.

Example apparatus and methods concern controlling a hover-sensitive input/output interface. One example apparatus includes a proximity detector that detects an object in a hover-space associated with the input/output interface. The apparatus produces characterization data concerning the object. The characterization data may be independent of where in the hover-space the object is located. The apparatus selectively controls the activation, display, and deactivation of user interface elements displayed by the apparatus on the input/output interface as a function of the characterization data and interface state. Selectively controlling the activation, display, and deactivation of the user interface elements includes allocating display space on the input/output interface to the user interface elements when they are needed for an operation on the apparatus and selectively reclaiming space on the input/output interface allocated to the user interface elements when they are not needed for an operation on the apparatus.
