A wind farm system and a method to improve the energy production from a wind farm comprising one or more wind guides for speeding up the wind through the wind turbine rotor and thereby improving the energy production from the wind turbine. One wind guide covering several wind turbines or several wind guides with a limited gap between them have been proven to significantly improve the efficiency of wind guides. One or more wind guides covering the wind turbines in the last row of a wind farm has likewise shown unexpected significant improvements. CFD calculations have shown more than 40% improvement in generated power from a wind farm system in some cases.

A wind turbine blade with a flow guiding device attached to a profiled contour on a pressure side of the blade is described. The flow guiding device has a front surface facing toward an oncoming airflow and comprises at least a first portion, which is angled towards the oncoming airflow and a leading edge of the wind turbine blade.

A wind farm comprising a number of wind turbines arranged on a ground comprising a first ground portion having a first ground surface and an outer periphery and a second ground portion having a second ground surface and surrounding the first ground portion. The first ground portion is covered with a reflective artificial covering to provide a reflecting surface having an albedo higher than the albedo of the second ground portion and thereby generating a lower temperature and a higher pressure in the first ground portion than in the second ground portion and a wind having a speed in a direction from the first ground portion towards the second ground portion. Some of the wind turbines are arranged in the second ground portion in such a distance from the periphery of the first ground portion that they are subjected to the wind coming from the first ground portion.

Wind farm

A wind turbine blade vortex generator unit and a method for installing it, where a wind turbine blade has at least one series of vortex generator units formed of fins extending substantially perpendicular to the surface of the airfoil and substantially in a direction from the leading edge towards the trailing edge of the wind turbine blade. The vortex generator units each comprises a fin connected to an outer side of the fin base, and where the fin is delta shaped tapering from a trailing edge towards a leading edge and where each of the vortex generator units has a layer of adhesive on an inner side of the base that extends to an outermost periphery of the base. The vortex generator unit has exactly one fin, and the base has an airfoil shaped periphery with a rounded leading edge and a trailing edge.

The present invention relates to a method of controlling an idling wind turbine in which wind condition data and wind turbine position data are collected by a sensor system, a control system computes an optimal pitch angle for a rotor blade of the wind turbine, and a pitching system continuously turns the rotor blades in the same direction in multiples of 360 degrees. The present invention further relates to a wind turbine with a sensor system including a wind sensor that measures wind condition data in the vicinity of the wind turbine, and a control system including a computer that executes a control algorithm and processes sensor input from the sensor system to compute an optimal pitch angle value for a rotor blade on the hub. This allows pitching the rotor blade into angle in which the mechanical loads of that rotor blade are reduced to a minimum when idling.

Method and system to actively pitch to reduce extreme loads on wind turbine

A wind turbine blade () for a rotor of a wind turbine () is provided with a longitudinally extending flow guiding device () attached to the profiled contour. The flow guiding device comprises: a base () having a first longitudinal end () nearest the root end () and a second longitudinal end () nearest the tip end (), a first side () nearest the leading edge () and a second side () nearest the trailing edge (), as well as a first surface () and a second surface (), the first surface of the base being attached to the profiled contour, and the second surface facing away from the profiled contour. A blade for a partial pitch wind turbine is described, wherein the blade has a truncated aerodynamic profile provided at the pitch junction of the blade. The truncated trailing edge acts to prevent the formation of a trailing edge gap during pitching between the trailing edges of the inner and outer blade sections of a partial pitch blade, thereby reducing the negative impact of air leakage, etc., when pitching a partial pitch blade.

Wind turbine blade

This invention relates to a method for manufacturing a composite member, where a number of different material layers including at least one layer of gelcoat are applied in a mold, and where resin is applied for joining of the layers. The method is new in that particles are added to the gelcoat, whereby the gelcoat comprising such particles forms an outermost layer on at least a part of the manufactured composite member. Hereby is obtained a composite with a hydrophobic and lotus-like surface yielding good self-cleaning properties and which is on the same time self-regenerating. The invention furthermore relates to composite members comprising such a gelcoat layer with particles and to the use of gelcoat comprising particles for giving regenerating self-cleaning properties.

A method of manufacturing a shell construction part of a wind turbine blade, the shell construction part being made of a fibre reinforced polymer material including a polymer matrix and fibre reinforcement material embedded in the polymer matrix. The method comprises the steps of a) providing a forming structure comprising a mould cavity and having a longitudinal direction, b) placing the fibre reinforcement material in mould cavity, c) providing a resin in the mould cavity simultaneously with and/or subsequently to step b), and d) curing the resin in order to form the composite structure, wherein at least 20% by volume of the fibre reinforcement material consists of metallic wires.

Method of manufacturing a wind turbine blade comprising steel wire reinforced matrix material

A method of manufacturing a longitudinally extending composite structure including a shell part comprising a fiber reinforced polymer material including a polymer matrix and fiber material embedded in the polymer material is described. The shell part is manufactured in a closed mold comprising at least a first outer mold part having a first forming surface and a second outer mold part having a second forming surface. The method comprises the steps of: arranging a first fiber material in the first forming surface of the first outer mold part, arranging a pre-fabricated longitudinally extending reinforcement element, such as a beam or a web, on top of the first fiber material, arranging a second fiber material in the second forming surface of the second outer mold part, and sealing a polymer foil above the second fiber material so as to retain the second fiber material against the second forming surface.

Method of manufacturing a composite structure with prefabricated reinforcement element

A method of controlling the yawing of two-bladed wind turbine is described. The yaw speed of the turbine is increased when the wind turbine rotor blades are in a substantially vertical position, and the yaw speed may be reduced when the blades are substantially horizontal. By modulating the yaw rate based on the rotational angle of the blades, the effect of the yaw moments on the wind turbine structure is reduced, and the wind turbine may be designed to take into account such reduced forces.

A wind turbine blade is described having a pitch system coupling which is adapted to allow fasteners, such as bolts, of such a coupling to be tightened from the inside of the blade. This removes the need for relatively difficult and expensive external maintenance operations to tighten pitch coupling bolts. The coupling is arranged to present first and second internal bearing surfaces, against which the bolts of the pitch coupling can be tightened. The coupling may comprise a shaped end portion of an inner blade section, and/or the pitch system may comprise an additional bolting collar to facilitate this arrangement.

A partial pitch wind turbine blade in which the pitch system of the blade functions as a lightning receptor. As the pitch system is of a relatively large dimension, it is able to dissipate the effects of a lightning strike without damage, and removes the needs for additional blade features normally used to conduct lightning around or away from the pitch system.

A partial pitch wind turbine is described wherein the wind turbine blade has an inner blade section designed for stall-controlled operation and an outer blade section designed for pitch-controlled operation. The different blade profiles for the different sections allow for the efficient operation of the blade while providing for the control of the wind turbine to effectively reduce blade root moments. The outer blade sections can be pitched out of the wind to reduce root moments due to the outer blade sections, while the increasing power capture of the inner blade section maintains nominal power output.

A method of manufacturing a wind turbine blade shell part comprising fiber material impregnated with cured resin is described. The method comprises the steps of: a) providing a first mold part having a first forming surface with a contour that defines at least a part of an outer surface of turbine blade shell part, b) arranging fiber material in the first mold part, the fiber material comprising fibers of a magnetizable material, c) providing a resin in the first mold part simultaneous with and/or subsequent to step b), and d) curing the resin in order to form the wind turbine blade shell part or wind turbine blade. The fiber material is retained against the first forming surface by use of magnet means during step b) and/or step c).
