A method for producing a ball raceway on a workpiece includes providing the workpiece, machining a preliminary thread profile on the workpiece and providing a thread rolling tool. The thread rolling tool has a tool shank, and the tool shank has a free end with a tool head having a roller profile. The method also includes clamping the workpiece into the thread rolling tool, rotating the workpiece about an axis of rotation, moving the tool shank longitudinally along the workpiece, and rolling the roller profile on the preliminary thread profile to generate a final thread profile.

A method for producing a bearing component includes providing a bearing component blank with an iron-based metal substrate, hardening the metal substrate, treating the metal substrate by an alkaline treatment bath in a region to form an iron oxide-based blackening layer as a conversion layer with an initial layer thickness (db) on the region, and rolling a spherical body over the region to compress the conversion layer in the region to form a bearing component with a protective layer having a final layer thickness (de) that is less than 95% of the initial layer thickness (db). The spherical body may be a component part of a hydrostatic finish rolling tool or a hydrostatic deep rolling tool. The spherical body may include a hard metal or a ceramic.

A roll body for a hydrostatic rolling tool includes a center, an axis of rotation running through the center, and a machining zone for rolling a workpiece. The roll body is rotatable about the axis of rotation and the machining zone has a working profile line formed in a cross-section of the roll body. The working profile line has a first working arc extending around a first machining center and a second working arc extending around a second machining center. The first machining center is arranged offset to the center, and the second machining center is arranged offset to the center and offset to the first machining center. In an example embodiment, the roll body has a parallel to the axis of rotation, the first machining center lies in the cross-section on the parallel, and the second machining center lies in the cross-section on the parallel.
