A portable data center is configured to be transported with installed computing devices between a first location and a second location. A tethered networking device of the portable data center can be deployed to provide a consistent interface for connecting computing devices at a first location with computing devices of the portable data center. Large quantities of data stored in the computing devices at the first location can be transferred to computing devices of the portable data center and the portable data center storing the transferred data can be transported to a second location where the stored data is transferred from the portable data center to one or more computing devices at the second location.

Portable data center for data transfer

A computing system includes a rack having standard slots for computing devices and computing devices coupled to the rack. One or more of the computing devices includes a chassis, a circuit board assembly in a primarily horizontal orientation, and one or more processors coupled to the circuit board assembly. One or more stacks of hard disk drives are coupled to the chassis. The chassis has a width that is equal to or less than half of the width of one of the standard slots of the rack.

Partial-width rack-mounted computing devices

A system for storing data includes a rack, one or more data storage modules coupled to the rack, and one or more data control modules coupled to the rack. The data storage modules may include a chassis, two or more backplanes coupled to the chassis, and one or more mass storage devices (for example, hard disk drives) coupled to the backplanes. The data control modules may access the mass storage devices in the data storage modules.

Modular mass storage system

An evaporative cooling module may include a cooling media formed from a vapor permeable membrane in which is formed a plurality of pores at a first side and a second side of the vapor permeable membrane. Individual pores of the plurality of pores may be sized to prevent liquid water from passing there through, and enable water vapor to pass there through. The cooling media may be configured to hold liquid water while an air stream is passed through the cooling media. The evaporative cooling module may also include a module inlet to direct liquid water into the cooling media, a module outlet to direct liquid water out of the cooling media, and a frame configured to support the evaporative cooling module.

An environmental control system is provided. The environmental control system can include a cooling device and a heating device. The cooling device can lower the temperature of fluid contained within a cold reservoir and the heating device can raise the temperature of fluid contained within a hot reservoir.

Cooling system with a booster

An environmental control system is provided. The environmental control system can include a heat absorption device and a heat rejection device positioned in containment areas and a reservoir. The containment areas can contain leaks that may occur in the environmental control system and direct the fluid into the reservoir. The reservoir can include an opening that can allow the environmental control system to operate as a low pressure system.

Cooling system with leakage tolerance

A power distribution grid for a facility, such as a data center, is located within the facility. The power distribution grid includes a plurality of power transport elements arranged in a grid pattern and nodes located at intersections of the grid pattern. Electrical loads are supplied power via respective nodes of the power distribution grid. Also, each node is supplied power from more than two transport elements, such that one or more transport elements can fail and electrical loads connected to a particular node associated with the failed transport elements continue to receive electrical power supplied to the particular node from at least two different transport elements.

A movable media air handling unit includes cooling media panels that may be moved into or out of an airflow based on whether or not additional cooling is required from the movable cooling media panels. Moving the cooing media panels out of the air flow reduces flow restrictions/pressure drop through the movable media air handling unit. In some embodiments, various types of movable cooling media panels may be used, such as liquid coolant coil panels, gaseous coolant coil panels, evaporative cooling panels, or other types of panels.

Movable media air handling unit

A system for passively exhausting air from a structure includes at least one pair of modules arranged on a roof of the structure. Each module has an exhaust face on one side and a sloped surface on the opposite side, and can receive exhaust air that flows upward from inside the structure. The modules can be arranged in pairs facing one another, with one of the sloped surfaces facing a direction of an environmental flow of air, so that the environmental air can flow up the sloped surface of one module and down the sloped surface of the other module without impinging on the exhaust faces of either module. The pairs can also be arranged side-by-side in an array, which can be expanded with additional pairs of modules to exhaust from the structure at a greater rate.

Passive roof exhausting system

An internal cooling grid is mounted internal to a facility, such as a data center, and includes a plurality of fluid transport elements arranged in a grid pattern with nodes at intersections of the grid pattern. Supply and return manifolds included in the nodes receive (and return) cooling fluid from/to more than two transport elements. Thus, a failure of one or more transport elements does not prevent a node from being supplied cooling fluid from at least a first transport element and a second transport element. In some embodiments, the cooling grid may be operated at a pressure less than one atmosphere, such that any leaks that occur cause air to leak into the cooling grid instead of cooling fluid leaking out of the cooling grid.

A pre-fabricated mechanical and electrical distribution infrastructure system comprises pre-fabricated panels that are connected together to form an air plenum for air distribution system at a data center location. The pre-fabricated panels include other infrastructure systems pre-assembled to the panels such that installation of the panels to form the air plenum also installs the other infrastructure systems, such as power distribution busways, building management sensors, lighting, etc.

Pre-fabricated mechanical and electrical distribution infrastructure system

A modular computing system for a data center includes one or more data center modules including rack computer systems. An electrical module is coupled to the data center modules and provides electrical power to computer systems in the data center modules. The data center modules do not include any internal active cooling systems and cannot be coupled with any external active cooling systems. A data center module directs ambient air to flow into intake air plenums extending along intake sides of the rows of racks, through the rows of racks into exhaust plenums extending along exhaust sides of the rows of racks, and out into the ambient environment to cool computer systems in the racks. Directed airflow can be lateral, vertical, at least partially driven by air buoyancy gradients, at least partially induced by air moving devices internal to computer systems in the rows of racks, thereof, etc.

Modular data center without active cooling

A system for performing computing operations includes a rack, one or more shelves coupled to the rack, and two or more computing modules. Each computing module may include a chassis, one or more circuit board assemblies in a primarily vertical orientation, and one or more hard disk drives in a primarily vertical orientation. The circuit board assemblies and the hard disk drives are coupled to the chassis of the computing module.
