The present invention relates to a lithium-air battery including: a negative electrode containing a negative-electrode active material; a positive electrode using oxygen as a positive-electrode active material; and an electrolyte medium arranged between the negative electrode and the positive electrode; wherein the electrolyte medium includes as primary solvent one or more compounds having an &#x2014;N&#x2014;CO&#x2014; group in the molecule.

Stable non-aqueous electrolyte promoting ideal reaction process in rechargeable lithium-air batteries

A main object of the present invention is to provide an air cathode capable of achieving both high initial discharge capacity and high capacity retention. In the present invention, the problem is solved by providing an air cathode used in a metal-air battery, comprising: an air cathode layer containing a conductive material, a particulate catalyst and a fibrous catalyst; and an air cathode current collector for collecting current of the air cathode layer, wherein the ratio of the fibrous catalyst to the total weight of the particulate catalyst and the fibrous catalyst is 10% by weight or less.

Cathode materials and methods for production

There is provided a manganese oxide material, wherein the material comprises a host material QMnMO, where Q and M are each any element, y is any number greater than zero, and q and z are each any number greater than or equal to zero, and at least one dopant substituted into the host material, the manganese oxide material having a layered structure in which the ions are arranged in a series of generally planar layers, or sheets, stacked one on top of another. In a particularly preferred material Q is Li and M is either Co, Ni, Al, or Li. Particularly preferred combinations of M and a dopant are Ni,Co; Al,Co; Li,Cu; Li,Al; and Li,Zn. A method of preparing the material is also disclosed.

Manganese oxide material for electrochemical cells

A novel layered material for use in electrochemical cells is provided, together with a method for producing the layered material, and a cell having the layered material as the positive electrode. The material is of the form Q,Mn,M,O,, where Q and M are each any element, y is any number greater than zero, and q and z are each any number greater than or equal to zero, and the material has a layered structure. Methods of preparing the manganese oxide material are provided, using an ion exchange reaction or an ion removal reaction. Use of the material in an electrochemical cell is demonstrated.
