An optical fiber connector which provides strain relief. The connector provides for retaining a predetermined fiber extent between two longitudinal distant points along the fiber. The connector comprises two movable securement members which reduces the distance between two secured points of fiber while maintaining a fixed longitudinal extent.

Strain relief connector for optical fiber

A composite fiber cutting and terminating apparatus includes parent and insert housings supported for relative movement, the parent housing supporting therein both a terminating device, such as a photodiode, and a cutting device. The insert housing has a fiber receiving channel. Upon movement of the insert housing into the parent housing, the fiber is retentively engaged by the insert housing and is cut to define a termination end face and the termination end face is disposed in registration with the termination device.

Fiber optic connector having operatable fiber retention means

An optical fiber cleaving device having a movable scoring element mounted between a movable arm and a fiber support member. The scoring element is responsive to the movement of the movable arm to move relative to both the movable arm and the fiber support member. This relative movement permits regulation of the force at which the scoring element scores the fiber supported on the support member. Such regulation provides for a more precise depth of score reducing adverse effects thereof.

Cleaving device for optical fibers

A composite fiber cutting and terminating apparatus includes first and second housings supported for relative movement, the first housing supporting therein both a terminating device, such as a photodiode, and a cutting device. The second housing retentively engages an optical fiber. Upon relative movement of the housings, the fiber is initially cut to define a termination end face and the termination end face is thereafter placed in registration with the detention device.

In terminating an optical element, such as an optical fiber, a housing includes an entry aperture for the fiber and terminating apparatus defining mutually discontinuous surfaces in abutting relation to the fiber end face, the surfaces being spaced from one another in a circular locus having a diameter not greater than the diameter of the fiber.

Method and apparatus for joining optical elements

A method and tool are disclosed for use in cleaving fiber optic elements preparatory to a splice for joining of two such fiber optic elements. The method comprises the steps of first moving a grooving tool about the entire circumference of a fiber optic element to form a circumferential groove therein, and then stressing the fiber optic element in the vicinity of the groove to provide a clean, mirror type end surface of the element which is suitable for subsequent splicing thereof with another suitably prepared element. The tool which is useful in cleaving a fiber optic element comprises support means having a longitudinal axis for supporting the fiber optic element therealong, grooving means for forming a groove in the surface of the fiber optic element, and mounting means for mounting the grooving means to revolve about the longitudinal axis of the support means to circumferentially groove a fiber optic element about its entire circumference.

Tool for cleaving fiber optic elements

The invention is directed to a connector for optically coupling one or more fibers to a like number of fibers. The individual fibers are supported upon members having resilient supports to permit the fibers on one member to be positioned onto the support of the other member and provide support during the complete coupling operation. Various clamps and strain reliefs are provided to minimize the effects of forces upon the cable or individual fibers. The cable may take a flat, circular or other configuration and the fibers may be of glass or plastic and may be coated with reflective sheaths or the like.

Optical fiber connector

A tool for fixing the position of an optical fiber with respect to the connector containing same. The connector containing an optical fiber is fastened to a movable connector support which is moved into position with respect to a collar that causes portions of the connector to retract and expose the fiber adjacent the index of a gauge. The position of the fiber end can be adjusted while viewing the fiber end and the index through a magnifying device properly illuminated.

Assembly tool

The subject device is a connector for flexible elastically deformable elongate members having two mating halves, portions of which overlie one another. Within such overlying portions extend passages for receiving and holding the elongate members, the passages made up of a V-notch groove and a confronting flat surface or a rectangular recess which deforms the elongate member at three points, centering the members and bringing them to an end-to-end relationship. Additional elements are added for strain relief, centering, latching and position control.

Duplex optical fiber connector

A threaded anchor for embedding in a cementious material comprising a unitary member of generally cylindrical configuration, which is interiorally threaded and open at one end. The other end thereof is closed by a base portion of greater size than the diameter of the cylindrical member, said base portion being disposed perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical member. On the exterior surface of the cylindrical member are a plurality of radial flanges, which extend along the length of the cylindrical member, and are attached to the base portion. The threaded anchor is preferably formed from a single sheet of metal. This sheet is fed into a drawing device, whereon the sheet is drawn into a cup shaped member having a closed end. The cup shaped member is placed over a mandrel and the exterior surface of the member is then pinched with means of shorter length than the length of the cup shaped member to form radial flanges on the exterior of the cup shaped member, and a flange at the bottom of the cup shaped member to which the exterior surface flanges are attached. The threads are then formed on the inner surface of the cup shaped member.
