A MEMS gyroscope is provided. A substrate can be formed with a substantially planar surface, a substantially hemispherical cavity extending into the surface, an actuation electrode, and a plurality of sensing electrodes. A resonator formed from a substantially hemispherical shell can be suspended within the cavity by a stem coupling the center of the bottom of the cavity to the center of the bottom of the shell. An electronic processor can be configured to cause a voltage to be applied to the actuation electrode, receive signals from the sensing electrodes, and process the received signals to determine rotation of the MEMS gyroscope.

MEMS hemispherical resonator gyroscope

A micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) inertial measurement system facilitates accurate location and/or attitude measurements via passive thermal management of MEMS inertial sensors. Accuracy of the system is also improved by subjecting the inertial sensors to programmed single-axis gimbal motion, and by performing coarse and fine adjustments to the attitude estimates obtained by the system based on the programmed motion and on the passive thermal management of the sensors.

Inertial measurement systems, and methods of use and manufacture thereof

Compositions and methods of using the compositions in preparing ferrous metal components for subsequent surface electroplating by preparing a solution containing an acid and a sequestering agent, immersing the components and abrading media in the solution, and agitating the components and the abrading media while maintaining the components and the media immersed in the solution. The compositions are dry granular compositions. Specific formulations are set out in detail. Generally, each composition has, by defined weight percents, oxalic acid; a phosphorus sequestering agent; the ratio by weight of oxalic acid to sequestering agent being in a range of from about 2:1 to about 0.4:1; a quantity of an ammonifying agent sufficient and effective for adjusting the pH of the solution formed on dissolving the composition in water to about 3.5; a quantity of a surfactant sufficient and effective for accomplishing wetting of the composition; and a quantity of a carrier material which may be a granular absorbent sufficient to make up the remainder of the composition.
