The invention provides means for achieving improved adherence between the terminal closure portion of a cathode ray tube and its associated base member. The improvement relates to the forming of a circular array of discretely fashioned spatially related indents or pocket-like reservoirs in the flange portion of the base member. These indents accommodate the advantageous deposition of additional dielectric adhesive in the peripheral region of the flange to realize the desired tube-to-base adherence.

A connective-protective adapter for use with a silo-type cathode ray tube base provides both connector pin protection and electrical connective means for all active pins of the tube. The adapter permits affixation of the permanent base to the tube early in tube processing, thereby eliminating the need for temporary processing bases, and provides pin protection on the finished tube.

The invention relates to improved means for dampening structural vibrations physically induced in an operating color cathode ray tube by an external audio source. The dampener is formed of a resilient laminated bimetallic material evidencing spring-like characteristics, being configurated to have at least one concave bend therein. At least one such dampener is located to bridge the spacing between the panel sidewall and the sidewall of the apertured member frame. One member of the laminated dampener has resilient spring-like qualities while another member is of a softer material, the dampener being oriented to have the softer material make contact with the panel sidewall to augment the vibration deadening effects of the dampener.

The invention is a structural improvement in the framing member of a rectangular color CRT mask-frame assembly. The improvement, which promotes rigidity in the framing member, is in the form of a continuous perimetrical channel-like indentation extending along the major and minor related elements of the framing member. The beneficial corner mergings of the respective channel-like indentations are effected by discretely shaped 'S'-like arcuate channel-like formations which are oriented substantially relative to the flow of the formed material thereat.

The invention relates to improved combination means for achieving positive placement of an internal electrical contactor in a cathode ray tube to effect and maintain a definitively oriented connection between an internal magnetic shield and a conductive coating disposed on the interior surface of the funnel portion of the tube envelope. Discrete portions of the shield are modified to form a pair of contactor positioning nubs and a cooperating indentation to contain a portion of the contactor in desired alignment therewith.

The invention provides improved strengthening means for the inherently weak corner regions of the framing member of a rectangular color CRT aperture mask-frame assembly. The improved means are in the form of crescent-shaped indentations discretely positioned to add strength to the corner material by substantially following the natural flow of the material thereat. The termini of the crescents are rounded and tapered to minimize stress concentrations in the regions.

A shadow mask for color cathode ray tubes has increased resistance to doming caused by heat generated within the tube during operation. A plurality of spaced protuberances formed on the mask frame provide the welding locations for the mask itself and thus provide a space between the frame wall and the mask wall. This reduces the stresses normally introduced into the mask when it is welded to the frame and reduces the tendency to dome during heating.

The invention relates to improved combination means for effecting an electrical connection in a cathode ray tube between an internal magnetic shield and a conductive coating disposed on the interior surface of the funnel portion of the tube envelope. The longitudinal connector employs a configurated clip-type attachment element which securely mates with a fluting formed on the shield to provide a rapidly achieved secure attachment.

Structural means are provided in an electron tube base for expeditiously controlling the flow of dielectric adhesive material relative to designated lead positions therein. This is accomplished by barrier means in the form of a centralized rim, extending from the crown portion of the base, which isolates the low voltage leads from the flow of dielectric material. In conjunction therewith, a trough-like channel is formed in the floor of the base flange to expedite flow of the dielectric material from the central cavity of the base to the vicinity of the high voltage leads.

Means for controlling dielectric flow in an electron tube base

Means is provided for expeditiously securing a socket to the finned base of an electron tube. Upon seating the base in the socket, a discretely formed locking pin is positioned within a slanted bore traversing the end portion of a fin, whereby the terminal end of the pin abuts the surface of the socket thus effecting securement of the socket-to-base combination. The invention is particularly useful in electronic equipment wherein cathode ray tubes are employed.

A protective cap is provided for a cathode ray tube-base assembly. The cap incorporates discrete means for maintaining alignment and protection of an array of tube pins at least one is spatially encompassed within a tubular isolation structure of the base.

Improved means are provided for supporting a thermionic cathode in a cathode ray tube electron gun structure. A dual-leg configurated wire component, evidencing minimal mass and low heat sink characteristics, is utilized to provide positive support for the cathode and promote rapid cathode warmup.

Pressure-related means are provided for insuring the retention of discrete pin aligning insert means within a compatible structural component of a cathode ray tube base.

Improved bracket means for supporting a cathode ray tube in a display enclosure. The improvement resides in the formation of the seating portion of the bracket which enables the implosion-inhibiting tensioned banding surrounding the tube to make substantially constant uninterrupted contact with the periphery of the tube.

In an electro-optical transducer system employing a cathode ray tube having a substantially frusto-conical body terminating at its wide end in a viewable face plate and at its narrow end in a cylindrical neck and having a deflection yoke substantially permanently bonded thereto adjacent the junction of the neck to the body by intermediate mounting means in a manner which inherently provides unwanted stresses upon said yoke, the improvement comprising: yoke stress relief means mounted upon the neck and in contact with the yoke. The yoke stress relief means can be in the form of a circumscribing clamp which is affixed to the neck of the tube and in contact with projecting ears on the rearmost portion of the yoke.
