Projectile systems are provided herein employing an inhibiting and/or marking substance for impairing/marking a living target, such as a human or animal target. In preferred embodiments, the projectile system includes a generally frangible projectile that is optimally filled to at least about 50%, with the substance to be delivered to the target, such that the substance is radially dispersed into a cloud upon impact. In one implementation, the substance delivered comprises a powdered inhibiting substance, such as a powdered pepper. In one implementation, the powdered inhibiting substance comprises a substance having one or more capsaicinoids.

Non-lethal projectiles for delivering an inhibiting substance to a living target

Projectile systems are provided herein employing an inhibiting and/or marking substance for impairing/marking a living target, such as a human or animal target. The projectile systems provide effectiveness by impacting the target with sufficient force to cause the target to move into a simultaneously radially dispersing inhibiting/marking substance contained within a capsule of the projectile system. In preferred embodiments, the projectile system includes a generally spherical frangible projectile that is optimally filled to greater than about 50%, more preferably about 75% to 99% of its total volume, most preferably to about 90% of capacity, with the substance to be delivered to the target. One or more frangible projectiles are configured to fit with a shell casing configured to fit within a delivery device.

Non-lethal projectile for delivering an inhibiting substance to a living target

A non-lethal projectile system for non-lethally inhibiting a living target, multi-functional launching devices for delivering the non-lethal projectile systems to a target, methods of assembling the non-lethal projectiles, and tactical methods of the use of the non-lethal projectile, the non-lethal projectile consists of a projectile body to be impacted with a living target and an inhibiting substance within the projectile body, wherein upon impact with the target, the inhibiting substance is dispersed on and about the target. In a variation, the projectile body ruptures upon impact releasing the substance. In another variation, the inhibiting substance is a powdered substance comprising a powdered pepper derived substance, for example, oleoresin capsicum or capsaicin.

Non-lethal projectile systems

Projectile systems are provided herein employing an inhibiting and/or marking substance for impairing/marking a living target, such as a human or animal target, which projectile systems are optimized to provide maximum effectiveness by impacting the target with sufficient force to cause the target to move into a simultaneously radially dispersing inhibiting/marking substance contained within a capsule of the projectile system. In preferred embodiments, the projectile system includes a generally spherical capsule that is optimally filled to greater than about 50%, more preferably about 75% to 99% of its total volume, most preferably to about 90% of capacity, with the substance to be delivered to the target. The capsule is preferably formed as two about equal halves. Each half is then filled to about 90% of its capacity with the substance, which is compressed mechanically or a thin membrane, preferably a paper foil, is placed over the substance or the substance is mechanically compressed within each half to retain the same within the half capsule. The two half capsules are then brought together, for example, by snapping them together, and are then sealed to one another. In an alternative embodiment, the sealed capsule employs a plurality of dimples or a matrix of global scoring in an exterior or interior surface of the capsule of the projectile system to facilitate rupture of the capsule upon impact with a living target. The projectile systems described herein are easily and inexpensively manufactured; are readily incorporated into existing armed officer training programs; and are extremely effective at stopping, slowing and/or marking a living target.

A power device includes at least two power conversion circuits respectively having at least one of switching elements, at least one of which switching elements in these conversion circuits being used in common as an element constituting the at least two different power conversion circuits, a control device providing at least a period in which at least one of currents flowing from at least one of the different power conversion circuits to the commonly used switching element has a polarity inverse to at least the other one of the currents flowing from at least the other one of the power conversion circuits, so as to cancel each other, and a unit for detecting the state of the respective conversion circuits. The operation of the switching elements is thereby made modifiable in accordance with a lowering in the resistance of a load of the device, and the withstand voltage of the elements can be prevented effectively from rising even upon any fluctuation in the load.

Non-lethal projectile for delivering an inhibiting substance to a living

An projectile and method of using same employ a projectile body; an electric circuit housed within the projectile body; a plurality of electrodes, coupled to the electric circuit, for delivering an electrical shock to the target; and attachment means, coupled to the projectile body, for attaching the projectile to the target.

Non-lethal projectile for delivering an electric shock to a living target

An improved visibility detector and method emit infrared radiation away from an infrared emitter; detect an amount of infrared radiation backscattered by an airborne visibility impeding agent; and generate a backscatter signal in response to the amount detected. In one embodiment, the detector detects an amount of the infrared radiation that is not backscattered; generates a reference signal in response thereto; determines an actual amount of the infrared radiation backscattered; determines whether the actual amount exceeds a prescribed threshold; and generates an alarm signal in event the actual amount is determined to exceed the prescribed threshold. In other embodiments, the device employs a meniscus barrier between the emitter and the detector; another, lower, threshold in determining when to terminate the alarm signal; a second alarm signal to indicate that backscatter has increased above another, higher, threshold; a calibration scheme for calibrating the detector and/or a running average to avoid anomalous indications of low/high visibility.

Backscatter-type visibility detection

A device and method for stunning a human or other living animal employs a nozzle or other such means through which a conductive fluid stream can be discharged toward the living animal; a current supply that is electrically coupled to the conductive fluid stream; and a grounding conductor that is coupled between the current supply and a ground potential. When the conductive fluid stream is discharged toward the human or other living animal and impacts the human or other living animal, the current supply passes a current through the human or other living animal when the human or other living animal becomes electrically coupled between the conductive fluid stream and the ground potential. The current is of sufficient magnitude to stun the human or other living animal. As a result, the human or other living animal is stunned when impacted with the conductive fluid stream.
