The present invention relates to a method of extracting and concentrating oils from materials in which the oils are already dispersed. More particularly, the present invention is concerned with the extraction of fixed oils or mineral oils from materials using a process of solvent extraction which is performed under elevated pressure and temperature. The solvent medium may be HFC 134a alone, or HFC 134a in combination with a suitable co-solvent which can be determined in accordance with the invention.

Process for extracting fixed and mineral oils

The invention relates to a process for extracting fixed and mineral oils, and/or essential oils, from materials using a process of solvent extraction which is performed under pressure. The solvent is iodotrifluoromethane or iodotrifluoromethane in combination with a co-solvent. The invention also relates to an apparatus for performing the extraction of fixed and mineral oils, and/or essential oils. Substantial reductions in or elimination of the normally high latent heat of solvent evaporation may also be achieved simply by raising or lowering the temperature of or simply by adding or removing 'sensible' heat from the solvent at appropriate points during its re-circulation.

Process and apparatus for preparing extracts and oils from plants and other matter

A process for extracting a compound or composition of matter from a raw material containing that compound or composition as a constituent part is disclosed. The process comprises the steps of (1) contacting a sample of the raw material with an extraction solvent comprising 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane and a co-solvent selected from an alkane and a hydrocarbon ether, (2) forming a solvent liquor comprising the extraction solvent and an extract from the raw material, and (3) separating the solvent liquor containing the extract from the raw material.

Process for the extraction of a compound by a fluorocarbon compound

An improved process for extracting an organic component, including fragrant, flavorsome or pharmacologically active components, from an organic material of natural origin using tetrafluoroethane in the liquid phase as the solvent. The process essentially includes contacting the organic material with the tetrafluoroethane in its liquid phase, charging thereby the tetrafluoroethane with the organic component, collecting the mixture thereof, and removing the tetrafluoroethane therefrom so as to isolate the organic component. The process allows the more volatile components of plant derived materials, frequently lost by conventional methods of extraction, also to be extracted. The extracted components, as a result, bear a greater similarity to, and possess a larger number of the characteristics of the original material than conventionally obtained extracts.
