The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a window transparent for electrons of an electron beam (E), in particular of an X-ray source. In order to enable a less costly and elaborate manufacture of such a window and in order to prevent unwanted sharp edges in a window area which may damage the window foil (), a method is proposed comprising the steps of:&#x2014;providing on a surface () of a carrier element () to which a window foil () shall be a fixed a receiving area () for receiving a soldering material () used for fixing said window foil () to said carrier element (), said carrier element () comprising a through hole () for the transmission of said electrons (E),&#x2014;covering said surface () having said receiving area () with a soldering material () such that substantially only said receiving area () is filled with soldering material (),&#x2014;placing said window foil () on top of said surface () and&#x2014;heating said soldering material () for fixing said window foil () to said surface ().

Method of manufacturing a window transparent for electrons of an electron beam in particular of an X-ray source

A window transparent to electron rays is provided which includes a foil which is transparent to electron rays and an element for supporting a peripheral region of the foil in an operational state. The element is made from a material having a greater linear thermal expansion coefficient than the foil material. The window transparent includes an intermediate layer between the foil and a retaining element. The retaining element acts as a support element and consists of a material having a linear thermal expansion coefficient which is equal or similar to the linear thermal expansion coefficient of the foil material and smaller than the linear thermal expansion coefficient of the material of the retaining element over a processing temperature range. A method of manufacturing a window which is transparent to electrons and an X-ray device with a window transparent to electrons are also provided.
