An apparatus () for compensating for weather-independent Doppler expansions in radar signals of a weather radar system () is disclosed. The device comprises: a receiving device () for receiving a representation () of the radar signals, a calculation device () and a compensation device (). The representation includes pixels of a range Doppler matrix. The calculation device () is designed to calculate azimuth angles (Azi) for the pixels () by means of fine bearing. The compensation device () is designed to correct weather-independent Doppler shifts for the pixels () based on the calculated azimuth angle (Azi; AziMopu) and thus to compensate for the weather-independent Doppler expansions and to provide them as a compensated representation ().

Apparatus and method for compensating for doppler expansions

A dual-Band phased array antenna with built-in grating lobe mitigation includes an array of radiating elements capable of working at both bands and arranged at distances small enough, avoiding grating lobes with respect to the lower band within the desired field of view. The radiating elements are arranged in planar subarrays that can be steered independently from each other and each of the subarrays has a different boresight normal vector, so that grating lobes in the upper band is mitigated.

An antenna array for a radar sensor, wherein the antenna array has a number of antenna elements linearly arranged next to one another. The antenna elements are designed for transmitting or receiving a radar signal, and the antenna array has a switching unit, which is designed to connect the antenna elements according to a predetermined switching sequence individually, one after the other in time, with a transmitting or receiving unit of the radar sensor. The switching sequence, according to which the antenna elements are connected one after the other with the transmitting or receiving unit, deviates from the spatial sequence of the antenna elements in the antenna array.

Optimizing switching sequence in the case of switched antenna arrays

A method using an antenna arrangement. The antenna arrangement includes a switched transmission antenna array with a number of transmission antennas, which radiate a radar transmission signal one after the other corresponding to a predetermined switching sequence. A first receiving antenna and a second receiving antenna receive the transmitted radar signals and reflected by at least one radar target. A first set of received signals by the first receiving antenna during the switching sequence of the transmission antenna array; receiving a second set of received signals by the second receiving antenna simultaneously with receiving the first set of received signals by the first receiving antenna during the switching sequence of the transmission antenna array; and from these signals the angular position of the at least one radar target based on the first set and the second set of received signals using an ESPRIT method is determined.

Monitoring a production or conveyor environment by means of radar

A method for lessening disturbances of a measurement signal in a radar unit for distance measurement by means of frequency-modulated radar in continuous wave operation. The method comprises steps of: registering, in a reference measurement, a reference signal as a function of time; deriving an error correction signal from the registered reference signal, wherein the error correction signal predominantly comprises spectral components caused or influenced by device-specific defects of the radar unit; registering a measurement signal; and correcting the measurement signal in accordance with the error correction signal by means of digital signal processing.
