Methods and systems for determining fluid levels in a tank comprise a mmWave control unit configured to generate and transmit a millimeter wave chirp. The control unit transmits the chirp into the tank through a Luneburg lens and receives one or more chirp reflections from the tank. For each tank level reading, three or more chirp configuration profiles are used in order to ensure accurate depth measurements due to multi-path reflections in most tanks. The control unit mixes the chirps with the chirp reflections to generate a set of responses for each chirp configuration profile. The responses are compared and the two best responses are selected and averaged. The set of averaged responses are then processed using a ballot and vote process to determine the distance reading that is likely to provide the most accurate tank level.

Methods and systems for determining fluid levels in a tank comprise a mmWave Control unit configured to generate a millimeter wave chirp that ramps linearly from a starting frequency to a higher frequency within a specified time span. The mmWave Control unit transmits the chirp into the tank and receives one or more chirp reflections from the tank. The mmWave Control unit mixes the chirp with the chirp reflections to generate one or more intermediate frequency signals and processes the one or more intermediate frequency signals to derive one or more distances, each distance representing the distance from the top of the tank to one of the one or more fluids in the tank or an obstruction in the tank. A Telemetry Control unit automatically selects intermediate frequency signals having a signal strength above a predefined minimum or distances within a predefined distance window for further processing.

A communication interface, and method thereof, allows a single communication device to accept data from multiple different types of sensors for transmission to a communication network. The communication interface is capable of inputting data from many types of sensors and outputting the data directly to the communication device. The communication interface translates or otherwise converts a variety of sensor data into a common message format that is appropriate and acceptable to the communication device. Such a communication interface allows many different types of sensing applications, particularly in distant and remote locations, to use a common communication device to communicate with a central server.

An electrical gripper has a housing and a solenoid plunger. A pair of jaws are movably mounted with the housing. The jaws are movable towards and away from each other. The jaws are coupled with the solenoid plunger to provide movement to the jaws. A first mechanism is associated with the solenoid plunger to lock the solenoid plunger in a first position when power is terminated to the solenoid plunger. A second mechanism is associated with the solenoid plunger to lock the solenoid plunger in a second position when power is terminated to the solenoid plunger. Thus, the jaws are actively locked in an open or close position when power is terminated to the solenoid plunger.

A compliance device is coupled with the motor. The compliance device absorbs impact energy created by the device. A drive mechanism is coupled with the compliance device and with a jaw movable on the housing. Fingers are coupled with the jaw that opens and closes to grip a part.

A motor pack for an electrically driven tool includes at least one electric motor and a linearly displaceable member coupled to the electric motor such that the linearly displaceable member is displaced axially by operation of the at least one electric motor. The motor pack further includes a housing enclosing the electric motor and at least partially enclosing the linearly displaceable member. The housing includes a front plate to which a tool head may be removably coupled. The front plate has an aperture formed therein through which the linearly displaceable element can be coupled to a moveable element in the tool head. The motor pack also includes tool control circuitry enclosed within the housing and electrically coupled to the electric motor to control operation thereof.

An electrically powered clamp has a housing, a motor attached to the housing, a ball screw driven by the motor via a belt, and a linkage driven at one end by the ball screw such that the linkage rotates an output shaft attached to the other end of the linkage. The motor and belt drive the ball screw between a fully extended position to rotate the shaft to a clamped position, and a fully retracted position to rotate the shaft to an unclamped position. A built-in computer monitors and controls the clamp. The clamp can also be controlled and monitored by a remote pendant. Indicator lights on the housing and remote pendant convey clamp status information. The clamp is programmable and can memorize the clamped and unclamped positions. The clamp uses velocity and position feedback to determine appropriate drive mode. Torque monitors and timers determine if the clamp becomes stuck.

In an automated welding machine, where a flow of liquid coolant is supplied to welding components on the machine from a source of coolant and then returned to the source of coolant, a safety system is provided that shuts down the flow of coolant in the event of a fault. Faults are detected by a supply sensor and a return sensor for measuring the flow rates of coolant in the supply and return lines. A microprocessor is adapted to compare the supply flow rate and return flow rate and detect differences between the two rates. The difference between the detected rates as compared to a leak threshold value, and the microprocessor is adapted to generate a valve shutoff signal in the event the detected difference in flow rates exceeds the leak threshold value. A value in the supply coolant line is responsive to the valve shutoff signal to shutoff flow of coolant in response thereto.

An electrically driven gripper has a housing, a gearmotor attached to the housing, a cam engaged to the gearmotor, a pair of opposing jaws slidingly mounted to the housing, a cam follower secured to one of the jaws and in sliding contact with the cam; and a spring configured to impart a force to the jaws such that the jaws are pulled toward each other. The gearmotor drives the cam to force the jaws to a maximum open position. Continued rotation of the cam allows the spring to pull the jaws closed to grasp an object with the jaws. Sensors mounted to the housing determine whether the jaws are in an open or closed state. A simple circuit on a printed circuit board mounted to the housing is used to control the electric gearmotor.
