A monorail vehicle includes two bogie assemblies supporting different ends of a chassis. Each bogie assembly includes guide wheels rotatably connected to a bogie frame, a wheel assembly for rolling along a top of a guide beam, and a drive unit. The drive unit includes an electric motor attached to the bogie frame via a mounting flange that is located within a first lateral half of the body, a brake unit, and a planetary gear assembly coupled to a rotor of the electric motor. The planetary gear assembly is located on a first side of the electric motor and the wheel assembly is mounted to an output of the planetary gear assembly. The drive unit is attached whereupon the wheel assembly may be dismounted from the drive unit in a direction of a second lateral half of the body without dismounting the drive unit from the bogie frame.

A bogie assembly for a rail vehicle comprises a bogie frame, two wheel axles supporting the bogie frame, a primary of a linear induction motor and two motor mounts. The two motor mounts are located proximate a different extremity of the primary and support the linear induction motor underneath the bogie frame. Each one of the two motor mounts has a bogie interface, a motor interface, a first spring, a conical spring, a core pin and a nut. The first spring is connected to the bogie interface on the bogie side while the conical spring is connected to the same bogie interface on the motor side. The core pin extends sequentially from the motor interface through the conical spring, then through the bogie interface and finally through the first spring where it is held in place by the nut on the other side of the first spring.

A monorail vehicle includes a chassis supporting a vehicle body that includes a passenger floor, a first side wall, and a second side wall and first and second propulsion systems. Each propulsion system includes an electric motor and a drive wheel coupled to a rotor of the electric motor. Each electric motor and the drive wheel coupled to the rotor of the electric motor are positioned on both sides of an imaginary plane extension of the passenger floor. First and second shells cover portions of the first and second propulsion system. The first shell is positioned proximate to the first side wall and defines a first space between the second side wall. The second shell is positioned proximate to the second side wall and defines a second space between the first side wall.

A head monorail car having a front end and a rear end comprises a body, a front load wheel proximate the front end, a rear load wheel proximate the rear end and a seat installed in a passenger area. The front load wheel and the rear load wheel are laterally centered in the body and at least partially protrude through the floor in the passenger area. The first seat is longitudinally installed at least partially between the front end of the monorail car and a spinning axis of the front wheel.

A primary for a linear induction motor having a core, electrical winding coils and a cooling system. The core extends longitudinally and has slots extending laterally in a first face thereof. Electrical winding coils inserted in the slots have end turns that extend laterally beyond each side of the core. The electrical winding coils are aligned sequentially along a length of the core. The cooling system, which is adapted to receive a cooling fluid, includes a serpentine tubing assembly and two lateral tubes. The serpentine tubing assembly is at least partially in contact with the core so as to transfer heat from the core to the environment. Each one of the two lateral tubes extend longitudinally along a different side of the core and within a respective longitudinal alignment of the end turns of the electrical winding coils.

A monorail vehicle includes a chassis supporting a vehicle body, that includes a passenger floor and at least one side wall, and an electrical motor supported by the chassis. A drive wheel is coupled to a rotor of the electric motor with a rotation axis of the drive wheel substantially coaxial with an axis of the rotor. Portions of the drive wheel and the electric motor are positioned on both sides of an imaginary plane extension of the passenger floor. The drive wheel and the electric motor are covered by a shell that is integral to one side of the vehicle body and which defines a space between the other side of the vehicle body.

A cross-over switch system for switching a monorail vehicle between two fixed guideway beams is provided. The cross-over switch system includes two articulated beams and a median beam. Each one of the two articulated beams, constructed of a chain of pivotably interconnected segments, and is pivotably connected to a different one of the two parallel fixed guideways. The median beam, which is pivotable in its center, is located at a median distance between the two parallel fixed guideway beams. When in a switching mode, the median beam is pivoted and each segment of each articulated beam is also pivoted so that each one of the articulated beam abuts an opposed end of the median beam.

A traction/pitching control assembly for attachment to a body portion of a monorail bogie. The monorail bogie is operative for supporting a monorail car over a monorail track that has a running surface and two side surfaces. The assembly comprises a first traction link, a second traction link and a linking member that has a first end portion and a second end portion. The first traction link is attached to the first end portion of the linking member, and the second traction link is attached to the second end portion of the linking member. The assembly further comprises a third traction link and a cross link. The cross link joins the third traction link to the first traction link and the linking member. The first traction link and the second traction link are attached to one of the body portion of the monorail bogie and the monorail car, and the linking member is connected to the other one of the body portion of the monorail bogie and the monorail car.

A traction/pitching control assembly for attachment to a body portion of a monorail bogie. The monorail bogie is operative for supporting a monorail car over a monorail track that has a running surface and two side surfaces. The traction/pitching control assembly comprises a first traction link, a second traction link and a linking member that has a first end portion and a second end portion. The first traction link is attached to the first end portion of the linking member, and the second traction link is attached to the second end portion of the linking member. The traction/pitching assembly further comprises a third traction link and a cross link. The cross link joins the third traction link to the first traction link and the linking member. The first traction link and the second traction link are attached to one of the body portion of the monorail bogie and the monorail car, and the linking member is connected to the other one of the body portion of the monorail bogie and the monorail car.

A monorail bogie assembly for supporting at least one monorail car over a monorail track that has a running surface and two side surfaces. The monorail bogie assembly comprises a first monorail bogie for supporting a first monorail car. The first monorail bogie comprises at least one load-bearing wheel, two inboard guide wheels and two outboard guide wheels. The monorail bogie assembly further comprises a second monorail bogie for supporting a second monorail car. The second monorail bogie comprises at least one load-bearing wheel and two inboard guide wheels. The monorail bogie assembly further comprises a linking member for interconnecting the first monorail bogie and the second monorail bogie, such that when connected the second monorail bogie is absent any outboard guide wheels.

A monorail bogie for supporting a monorail car travelling over a monorail track. The monorail bogie comprises a load-bearing wheel having an axis of rotation that is parallel to the running surface. The monorail bogie further comprises an inboard pair of guide wheels and an outboard pair of guide wheels. Each guide wheel of the inboard pair of guide wheels has an axis of rotation and each guide wheel of the outboard pair of guide wheels has an axis of rotation. The axes of rotation of the inboard pair of guide wheels and the axes of rotation of the outboard pair of guide wheels are offset in opposite directions in relation to the axis of rotation of the load bearing wheels. The monorail bogie further comprises at least one stabilizing wheel positioned co-axially with each one of the inboard pair of guide wheels.

The beam is supported by inboard wheelsets and the chassis portions are supported by outboard wheelsets. A centering mechanism for a tunnel of an articulated vehicle includes a pair of control members connected to opposite ends of a transversely extending arm. The members extend to transverse links that connect spaced portions of the adjacent vehicle bodies and act as a torque transmitting linkage through a cross-over link pivoted on one of the vehicle bodies. The members are connected at the midpoints of the transverse links so that they are displaced one-half the relative displacement of the vehicle bodies as they negotiate vertical curves and thereby maintain the tunnel centered.
