A method continuously creates a bainite structure in a carbon steel, especially a strip steel by austenitizing the carbon steel; introducing the austenitized carbon steel into a bath containing a quenching agent; adjusting the carbon steel to the transformation temperature for bainite and maintaining the transformation temperature for a certain period of time; and then cooling the carbon steel. The carbon steel stays in the bath until a defined percentage of the bainite structure relative to the total structure of the carbon steel has formed. Residues of the quenching agent are removed from the surface of the carbon steel by blowing the same off when the carbon steel is discharged from the bath, and the remaining structure components of the carbon steel are then transformed into bainite in an isothermal tempering station without deflecting the carbon steel at all.

An apparatus is described for bracing of sheet-metal joints () in a high-temperature annealing furnace having at least one carrier (), which frontally receives a sheet-metal joint () and has a central axial passage opening (), on which a support pipe (), which axially penetrates the sheet-metal joint (), having a carrier () for receiving a further sheet-metal joint () can optionally be placed in a load-bearing manner. In order to provide advantageous heating conditions, it is proposed that the carrier () has a ring body () forming the passage opening (), having radially protruding carrier arms () distributed around the circumference.

Apparatus for bracing of sheet-metal joints in a high-temperature annealing furnace

An apparatus is described for cooling a metal strip (), comprising at least two nozzle fields which are disposed opposite of each other with respect to the metal strip () conveyed continuously in its longitudinal direction and which comprise nozzles facing towards the respective strip surface and being attached to blowing boxes () for a cooling gas, and flow conduits () provided between the nozzles for discharging the cooling gas flows from the nozzles which are deflected on the surface of the strip. In order to provide advantageous cooling conditions it is proposed that the nozzles are combined in groups in nozzle strips () which are disposed next to one another in parallel with lateral distance and which consist of gas conduits () connected with the blowing boxes () and comprising nozzle openings () facing the respective strip surface and being distributed over the length of the nozzle strips (), and that the flow conduits () for discharging the cooling gas flows are provided between the nozzle strips () extending transversally to the blowing boxes ().

Apparatus for cooling a metal strip

A method is described for batchwise heat treatment of goods to be annealed which are heated in a heating chamber after scavenging air with a scavenging gas under protective gas to a predetermined treatment temperature, with the protective gas being conveyed through the heating chamber depending on the occurrence of impurities in different quantities. In order to enable the economic use of protective gas, it is proposed that the protective gas which is withdrawn from the heating chamber after the main occurrence of impurities and which is loaded with a residual quantity of impurities is conveyed, optionally after intermediate storage, into the heating chamber during the main occurrence of impurities of a subsequent batch before non-loaded protective gas is introduced into the heating chamber.

Method for batchwise heat treatment of goods to be annealed

An apparatus is described for cooling a strip () of sheet metal with nozzles () for a cooling liquid to be sprayed onto the bottom side of the strip, which nozzles are arranged beneath the strip () in transversal rows relative to the feeding direction () of the strip. In order to provide advantageous cooling conditions it is proposed that the nozzles () configured as fan jet nozzles form a common middle spraying surface () for each transversal row and that covers () are provided in the spraying region of the nozzles () which are laterally adjacent to the strip () of sheet metal.

A tower furnace for heat treatment of metal strips having a pre-heating section ( ) and a high-temperature section ( ) connected thereto at the top forming a housing ( ) separate from the pre-heating section ( ) is described, whereby the pre-heating section ( ) equipped with a preferably gas-heated muffle ( ) exhibits a connecting stopper ( ) made of heat-insulating material for the high-temperature section ( ) inserted into the muffle ( ). Tower furnace for heat treatment of metal strips

To be able to satisfactorily bright-anneal metals having a high affinity to oxygen in a hood-type furnace or the like under a protective gas, a rather pure inert gas such as argon, neon or helium, which is mixed with not more than 50 vol-% of a reducing gas, for instance hydrogen, is used as protective gas in cooperation with an oxygen binder, preferably titanium.

A plant for the continuous heat treatment of steel strips (4) or the like has a nonmagnetic insulated housing (1), in which two axially parallel unheated rollers (2, 3) are disposed at a distance from each other. To the first roller (2), the steel strip (4) or the like is supplied, which is then wound around the second roller (3) and as a secondary winding gets back to the first roller (2) through a transformer plate assembly (7) and is discharged from said second roller. The primary winding (10) with a corresponding number of turns is disposed outside the housing (1). The housing (1) is filled with a protective gas and has means (11, 12) to ensure a uniform temperature level and distribution in the housing (1).

A tower furnace for the heat treatment of metal strips comprises a muffle (3) extending over the entire furnace height, through which muffle passes the strip (6). At the top of the muffle (3) an insulated stopper (1) with an electric heater (2) has been inserted into the muffle (3). Below this stopper (1) a gas-heated preheating space (4) is provided in the muffle (3).

Tower furnace for the heat treatment of metal strips

An apparatus is disclosed, which serves to contact with a flowing gas two mutually opposite, substantially flat and substantially circular annular surfaces of an annular cylindrical workpiece having an inside diameter not in excess of a predetermined maximum inside diameter. The apparatus comprises an oven housing, which contains two mutually opposite plenum chambers, which are defined by respective side walls which are spaced apart in an axial direction and define between them an oven chamber adapted to accommodate said workpiece in a position in which each of said side walls faces one of said surfaces of said workpiece, each of said side walls being formed with orifice slot means, and a fan for supplying a gas to said plenum chambers. In order to ensure that the said surfaces of said workpiece will be uniformly supplied with said gas, said orifice slot means in each of said side walls consist of a circular annular slot, which is concentric to said circular annular slot in the other of said side walls, and the inside diameter of each of said circular annular slots exceeds the inside diameter of said annular workpiece, whereby said annular workpiece is adapted to be positioned in said oven chamber in a position in which said circular annular slots are concentric to said substantially circular surfaces of said workpiece.

Apparatus for contacting surfaces of workpieces with a flowing gas

In a process of heating and cooling charges in batch-process industrial furnaces, particularly in a process of cooling coils of steel wire or strip steel in bell-type annealing furnaces, the charge is heated and cooled in contact with circulated protective gas. The cooling time is shortened and the power input to the circulating fan is reduced by changing the composition of the protective gas so as to decrease the specific gravity of the protective gas just before the beginning of the cooling period and/or during the cooling period.
