A ball bearing assembly can include an outer race that includes an inner surface; an inner race that comprises an outer surface that includes an imperfection and a shoulder disposed at a shoulder angle where the imperfection is disposed at an angle in a range from about 50% of the shoulder angle to about 100% of the shoulder angle; and balls disposed between the inner surface of the outer race and the outer surface of the inner race. Ball bearing assembly notification mechanism

An exemplary center housing rotating assembly includes a turbine wheel (); a compressor wheel (); a center housing () that includes a through bore (), extending from a compressor end to a turbine end along a bore axis, and a recess (), adjacent the bore, in a plane orthogonal to the bore axis; a bearing assembly () positioned in the bore that includes a keyway (); and an anti-rotation component () seated in the recess and at least partially in the keyway to restrict rotation of the bearing assembly in the bore. Bearing spacer and housing

An exemplary center housing rotating assembly includes a turbine wheel; a compressor wheel; a center housing () that includes a through bore (), extending from a compressor end to a turbine end along a bore axis; a bearing assembly () positioned in the bore where the bearing assembly includes an outer race () that includes keyways () extending from an axial end, the keyways radially inset from an outer diameter of the outer race; and a plate () attached to the center housing where the plate includes extending keys (), each of the keys () being received by a respective one of the keyways () to restrict rotation of the bearing assembly in the bore. An assembly for a turbocharger includes a ball bearing cartridge, a center housing with a bore, a turbine end counterbore and a compressor end surface that includes a recess, and a compressor backplate with an axial extension configured to fit into the recess where the counterbore and the backplate define, at least in part, an axial length of a bearing cartridge chamber. Retention of ball bearing cartridge for turbomachinery

An exemplary method for limiting movement of an outer race of a bearing cartridge includes positioning the bearing cartridge in a substantially cylindrical bore having a longitudinal axis, an inner diameter exceeding an outer diameter of the outer race, a proximate end and a distal end; limiting axial movement of the outer race at the distal end of the cylindrical bore with a counterbore substantially coaxial to the cylindrical bore and having an inner diameter less than the outer diameter of the outer race; limiting axial movement of the outer race at the proximate end of the cylindrical bore with a plate positioned substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis; and limiting rotation of the outer race with a pin positioned in a pin opening accessible via a lubricant drain. Various exemplary bearing cartridges, housings, assemblies, etc., are also disclosed.

An exemplary housing for a turbocharger includes a substantially cylindrical bore having a longitudinal axis, an inner diameter, a proximate end and a distal end; a counterbore positioned at the distal end, substantially centered on the longitudinal axis and having an inner diameter; a plate attachment mechanism at the proximate end for attachment of a plate including an opening substantially centered on the longitudinal axis and having an inner diameter wherein the inner diameter of the cylindrical bore exceeds the inner diameter of the counterbore and the inner diameter of the opening of the plate; and a pin opening to the cylindrical bore positioned substantially at the inner diameter of the bore, the pin opening capable of receiving a pin. Various exemplary bearing cartridges, housings, assemblies, etc., are also disclosed.

An exemplary housing for a rotor of a turbocharger includes a bore, defined at least in part by the housing; a pair of rotor limiting surfaces positioned at a first diameter, one rotor limiting surface positioned proximate to a turbine end of the housing and the other rotor limiting surface positioned proximate to a compressor end of the housing; a rotor damping surface positioned at a second diameter, intermediate the pair of rotor limiting surfaces; and an opening to receive a pin to axially locate a squeeze film bearing cartridge in the bore of the housing. Various exemplary bearing cartridges, housings, assemblies, etc., are also disclosed.

An exemplary squeeze film bearing cartridge for a turbocharger includes a center section, two outer sections having a first outer diameter and two intermediate sections having a second outer diameter, the intermediate sections positioned intermediate the center section and a respective one of the outer sections and wherein the first outer diameter exceeds the second outer diameter. Various exemplary bearing cartridges, housings, assemblies, etc., are also disclosed.
