An Input/Output (IO) Virtualization (IOV) system provides a mechanism for sharing computer peripheral devices or resources between multiple host computers by presenting a single resource multiple times to numerous host systems. The IOV system provides IO virtualization and host-to-host communication services to the host computers. The system comprises device interfaces coupled to the IO devices. Each IO device comprises at least one endpoint function (EPF). Host interfaces are each coupled to one of a number of host computers. Each host interface includes a proxy, and each proxy comprises configuration data.

Assignment of resources in an input/output (I/O) virtualization system

An Input/Output (IO) Virtualization (IOV) system provides for sharing of computer peripheral devices between multiple host computers by presenting a single device multiple times to numerous host systems. The IOV system, in coupling or connecting multiple host computers and multiple IO devices, provides IO virtualization and host-to-host communication services to the host computers. The system comprises device interfaces coupled to IO devices, and host interfaces coupled to each of a number of host computers. The IO devices are initialized in a first domain. Each host interface exposes functions of the independent IO devices to the host computer to which it is coupled. Each host computer accesses functions from a host domain that is an independent domain specific to the host computer performing the access. The first domain is different from the host domain.

Communicating between host computers and peripheral resources in an input/output (I/O) virtualization system

An Input/Output (IO) Virtualization (IOV) system couples or connects multiple host computers and IO devices to a managed transport fabric to provide IO virtualization. The host computers may run any operating system to provide a virtualized environment for guest operating systems. The host interface to the IOV system is PCI-Express (PCIe). The IO devices are PCIe based to provide maximum compatibility with industry standard devices, but are not so limited. The IOV system comprises a management central processor unit (MCPU) coupled to transport fabric. The IOV system comprises device interfaces coupled to the transport fabric and to independent input/output (IO) devices. Each device interface couples to the IO device of the independent IO devices. The IOV system comprises host interfaces coupled to the transport fabric. Each host interface couples to a host computer of the independent host computers and exposes functions of the independent IO devices to the host computer.

Input/output (I/O) virtualization system

A system is disclosed. The system includes a first optical transceiver having a first set of transmitters and a first set of receivers and a second optical transceiver having a second set of transmitters coupled anti-symmetrically to the first set of receivers of the first optical transceiver and a second set of receivers coupled anti-symmetrically to the first set of transmitters of the first optical transceiver.

Bi-directional parallel optical link

Leaf switches and spine switches in a Clos network are interconnected by optical fibers. The network enables large numbers of servers or other apparatus to communicate with each other with minimal delay and minimal power consumption.

Optical network for cluster computing

A system is provided for implementing PCI Express protocol signals over an optical link. A transmission circuit is used to provide an electrical-to-optical conversion, a receiving circuit provides an optical-to-electrical conversion, and a sideband circuit is used to provide and receive control information.

Method and apparatus for transporting computer bus protocols over an optical link

A driver circuit is coupled to an optical waveguide transmitter. The driver circuit has a current generator that is in series with the transmitter, and a current robbing circuit is coupled to the transmitter. The current robbing circuit is to divert first and second amounts of current from the transmitter, in accordance with predetermined values of first and second bit streams, respectively, in which data is received to be transmitted. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Multi-level optical data communication circuit

An optical communications device has light transmitters of a first wavelength that are coupled to a number of first waveguides of an optical data link, respectively. A second set of light transmitters of a second, different wavelength are coupled to another set of waveguides of the link, respectively. The light transmitters are to transmit data from the same data processing element that is to use the link to communicate with another data processing element. The device also has a set of light detectors of the first wavelength that are coupled to the second set of waveguides, respectively. Another set of light detectors of the second wavelength are coupled to the set of first waveguides, respectively. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

A compact optical transceiver is provided in which a substrate provides for an alignment surface for optical fibers and a lens assembly provides the necessary optical paths for coupling to photodiode and photodetector structures. Appropriate electrical connections on the substrate enable the substrate to be directly connected to a printed circuit board, grid array socket, and the like.
