The invention relates to an apparatus () for processing documents of value, in particular bank notes, and a method for operating such an apparatus (). The apparatus () is further set up to detect events in the processing zones (), which require an intervention of an operator. An apparatus for processing value documents, in particular banknotes, comprises more processing zones respectively having at least one cover for covering an internal space of the processing zone in question. An interior lighting means is provided and at least one region of the cover or adjacent to the cover is semitransparent. The internal space can thus be viewed through the semitransparent region only when the interior lighting means is switched on. Upon detecting an error in the bank note processing, the interior lighting means of the processing zone in question lights up automatically, thus guiding the operator directly to the location of the problem.

The present invention relates to the automatic removal of value document stacks from a container with the aid of a gripper. For separating different value document stacks, the container is subdivided into several storage regions by separator elements. Since the separator element positions of different value document containers may be different, for the container to be respectively processed it is ascertained at which positions along the container the separator elements are arranged. Ascertaining the separator element positions is effected independently of the gripper at a time before the gripper is moved toward the container. The ascertained information items about the separator element positions belonging to the container are then transferred to a gripper control device of the gripper, which is configured for controlling the motion of the gripper in order to remove value documents from the container.

A bank-note processing apparatus includes a debanding station and an image capturing device by which first and second information items applied to the band can be optically captured and digitally stored. The present invention relates to a method for automated, continuous singling of loose sheet material, by the steps of feeding a stack of loose sheet material to be singled located on a first feeding element from a deposit position to a position in which the uppermost sheet of the stack can be grasped by the singling unit, sheet-by-sheet singling of the fed stack by the singling unit, the stack being fed by the feeding element such that the particular uppermost sheet of the stack can be grasped by the singling unit, feeding a further stack of loose sheet material to be fed located on a second feeding element from the deposit position to a position in which the uppermost sheet of the stack to be fed is located below the first feeding element, and uniting the stack to be singled and the fed stack by drawing the first feeding element out of the feeding path.

A method and apparatus for singling sheet material, in particular papers of value such as bank notes, checks, etc., for subsequent processing of single pieces of sheet material. To permit recognition of mix-ups in the singling order, maintenance of the singling order is checked at the place of singling by monitoring whether the next piece of sheet material to be singled is singled.
