Provided is a system for providing pulsed arc starting phase, where the system comprises power conversion circuitry configured to convert input power to welding-type power and output the welding-type power, and control circuitry configured to control the power conversion circuitry to output the welding-type power. The control circuitry is configured to control the power conversion circuitry to output a plurality of welding current pulses during at least a portion of one or both of a run-in period or a ramp period for wire feeding of a welding wire ends, where each of the plurality of welding current pulses is associated with a respective pulse period and a respective pulse duty cycle.

Methods and apparatus for pulse arc starting phase for welding

Systems and methods to start arc welding are disclosed. An example welding-type power supply includes: power conversion circuitry configured to convert input power to welding-type power; and control circuitry configured to: prior to a welding operation, control the power conversion circuitry to stop outputting the welding-type power to a wire electrode; and in response to identifying contact between the wire electrode and a workpiece: control the power conversion circuitry to output an arc starting current to the wire electrode; control a feed motor of a welding torch to retract the wire electrode; control the feed motor to advance the wire electrode based on a first parameter of the welding operation; and control the power conversion circuitry to output the welding-type power to the wire electrode based on the first parameter or a second parameter of the welding operation.

Systems and methods to start arc welding

Methods and apparatus to communicate via a weld cable are disclosed. An example weld circuit communications device includes a receiver circuit, a processor, and a local communications adapter. The receiver circuit to receive a communication via a weld circuit while current is flowing through the weld circuit or after the current has stopped flowing through the weld circuit, the communication including weld voltage feedback information measured at a device remote from a power supply and remote from the weld circuit communications device while the current is flowing through the weld circuit. The processor generates power supply control information based on the weld voltage feedback information. The local communications adapter transmits the power supply control information to control welding-type power output by a power converter to regulate a weld voltage to a weld voltage setpoint.

Methods and apparatus to provide a consistent electrode state for welding, an example welding-type system includes: a first wire drive to feed an electrode wire through a welding torch; a bidirectional assisting wire drive to advance the electrode wire from a wire supply to the first wire drive; a tension-compression detector to detect a first tension-compression state of the electrode wire; and one or more motor controllers to control the first wire drive and the assisting wire drive to put the electrode wire in a predetermined position relative to the welding torch by: controlling the first wire drive to hold the electrode wire; and controlling the assisting wire drive to advance or retract the electrode wire based on the first tension-compression state to put the electrode wire in a second tension-compression state.

Methods and apparatus to provide a consistent electrode state for welding

An example system for controlling heating of a workpiece includes: an interface configured to receive a target temperature (T) for the workpiece; a processor configured to: select a current temperature (T) for the workpiece based on monitoring one or more temperature sensors; and set a control temperature (T) based on the received target temperature and T; and a control system configured to: control heating of the workpiece via a heating device until the workpiece reaches Tas measured by at least one of the one or more temperature sensors, and controlling the heating device to stop heating the workpiece in response to the workpiece reaching T; wherein: the processor is configured to characterize a temperature ramp rate based on a measured temperature overshoot at the workpiece after turning off the heating device; and the control system is configured to control heating of the workpiece to Tby controlling the heating device based on the temperature ramp rate.

Method and apparatus for temperature characterization in welding

A pulsed welding regime includes a peak phase in which energy is added to an electrode and a weld puddle, and a molten ball begins to detach from the electrode, followed by a dabbing phase in which current is significantly reduced to place the ball in the weld puddle with addition of little or no energy. The resulting short circuit clears and the system proceeds to a background phase. The current in the dabbing phase is lower than the current during the background phase. The process may be specifically adapted for particular welding wires, and may be particularly well suited for use with cored wires. The dabbing phase allows for lower energy to be transferred to the sheath of such wires, and resets the arc length after each pulse cycle.

A method for handling a data packet includes a network device receiving the data packet. The method also includes the network device separating first network layer data of the data packet from message data of the data packet. The message data of the data packet includes a source address represented by less than four bytes, a destination address represented by less than four bytes, and a format identifier. The method includes determining whether the destination address of the message data matches an address of the network device or whether the message data indicates a broadcast message. The method also includes the network device processing the format identifier if the destination address of the message data matches the address of the network device or if the message data indicates the broadcast message. The method includes the network device providing the message data to the network device and/or other network devices.

A welding regime may implements cyclic short circuits under a closed loop voltage control approach. Upon clearing or imminent clearing of the short circuit, a current recess is implemented. The current recess reduces the current that would otherwise be applied to the weld, resulting in multiple benefits. The recess may be implemented by suspending voltage command signals. Following the current recess, normal control is resumed with the then-current voltage command.

A system includes a welding power supply unit and control circuitry. The welding power supply unit includes an auxiliary power supply configured to supply power to an auxiliary power load connected to the auxiliary power supply. The control circuitry is configured to detect a voltage received by the auxiliary power load from the auxiliary power supply, compare an output voltage generated by the auxiliary power supply with the voltage received by the auxiliary power load, and apply a correction factor to the output voltage from the auxiliary power supply based at least in part on the comparison of the output voltage generated by the auxiliary power supply and the voltage received by the auxiliary power load.

A welding system having a welding power supply coupled to a fume extractor is provided. The fume extractor may be coupled to control circuitry configured to operate the welding power supply. The control circuitry may be further configured to modify the operation of the fume extractor based upon a type of welding process used.

A method of operating a welding system includes supplying a weld current and a weld voltage to an electrode via a plurality of pulse periods, where each pulse period of the plurality of pulse periods includes a background phase and a peak phase. The method also includes detecting the occurrence of an anomalous cathode event during the background phase of a first pulse period of the plurality of pulse periods based at least in part on when a voltage value of the weld voltage is greater than a detect voltage. The method also includes controlling the weld current to a desired current during a portion of the anomalous cathode event. The portion includes an interval of the background phase of the first pulse period, and the weld current is controlled independent of the weld voltage during the portion of the anomalous cathode event.

Systems and methods for anomalous cathode event control

Methods and apparatus to communicate via a weld cable are disclosed. An example welding-type power supply includes a power converter, a receiver circuit, and a controller. The power converter converts input power to welding-type power based on a weld voltage setpoint and to output the welding-type power via a weld circuit. The receiver circuit receives a communication via the weld circuit while current is flowing through the weld circuit or after the current has stopped flowing through the weld circuit. The communication includes weld voltage feedback information measured at a device remote from the power supply while the current is flowing through the weld circuit. The controller controls the welding-type power output by the power converter according to a voltage feedback loop using the weld voltage feedback information to regulate a weld voltage at the remote device to the weld voltage setpoint.
