A foamed, opacifying element useful as a light-blocking article has a substrate; an opacifying layer disposed on the substrate, and a functional composition disposed over the opacifying layer. The functional composition comprises: (i) glass particles such as hollow glass particles. The presence of the glass particles provides additional heat absorption for the foamed, opacifying elements that can be formed into light-blocking materials.

A method of making a resin, includes forming an aqueous monomer droplet suspension, and colloidally stabilizing the suspension with a solid particulate material as the first stabilizer and poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) as a second stabilizer. The method further includes heating the colloidally stabilized suspension to polymerize the monomer droplets, thereby forming the resin.

Composite materials such as composite particles have a solid non-elastomeric continuous phase made of an organic polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least 25&#xb0; C. Dispersed within this solid non-elastomeric continuous phase are many multi-compartment porous chemically crosslinked elastomeric particles that have a mode particle size of at least 1 &#x3bc;m and up to and including 10 &#x3bc;m. The composite particles can be used as toner particles in electrophotographic imaging methods to provide fused toner images and especially stacked fused toner images.

Polymeric composite materials, manufacture, and uses

A method of making a high density organic polymeric particle, suitable for use in milling, includes the steps of: providing an oil phase including a high density metal, a metal modifying agent, a cross-linkable organic monomer mixture, and an oil soluble polymerization initiator; admixing the oil phase under high shear conditions in an aqueous medium to produce droplets of the oil phase in the aqueous medium; and adding a hydrocolloid to the aqueous medium containing the droplets of the oil phase. The method further includes polymerizing the droplets of the oil phase to produce high density organic polymeric particles comprising a cross-linked polymer host matrix and a high density metal wherein the high density metal is within the interior of the cross-linked polymer host matrix.

The present invention relates to a protective heat transferable overcoat element comprising a support having thereon a protective polymer layer of at least one benzoated phenoxy resin of Formula I. This invention relates to a composition comprising microcapsules suspended in an aqueous media, said microcapsules comprising a water immiscible material contained within an encapsulating wall of polymeric material, wherein the aqueous media contains a stabilizer comprising an anionic polymer mixture comprising a first sulfonated polystyrene polymer and a second sulfonated polystyrene polymer wherein the ratio of the weight average polymer molecular weight of the first polymer to the second polymer is greater than 2. It further relates to an imaging element comprising said microcapsules.

A photographic imaging element is disclosed comprising a support having on a front side thereof a silver halide imaging layer and an outermost protective overcoat layer comprising a film-forming binder, and on the backside thereof an outermost protective backcoat layer comprising a film-forming binder; the protective overcoat and backcoat layers each comprising a lubricant present in an amount of at least 5 mg/mand permanent matting agent having a Tof at least 40&#xb0; C. and an average particle size of from about 0.5 to about 3 micrometers in an amount of at least 1 mg/m; and at least one of the protective overcoat layer or the protective backcoat layer further comprising crosslinked elastomeric polymer matte particles, wherein the crosslinked elastomeric polymer matte particles have a Tof 20&#xb0; C. or less, an average particle size of at least 90% of or greater than that of the permanent matting agent particles having a Tof at least 40&#xb0; C. in the protective layer in which the crosslinked elastomeric matte is included, and are present in the protective overcoat layer or protective backcoat layer in an amount which is (i) at least 1 mg/mand (ii) less than the total level of permanent matting agent particles having a Tof at least 40&#xb0; C. in the protective overcoat and backcoat layers combined. Imaging elements comprising highly lubricated protective outermost layers in accordance with the invention advantageously provide increased scratch and wear resistance, while the presence of relatively low Tcrosslinked elastomeric matte particles in combination with higher Tpermanent matte particles has been found to increase the coefficient of friction of the layer in which they are included to provide good manufacturability of the imaging element while also maintaining wear and other desired film performance properties.

Disclosed is a thermal dye-transfer receiving element comprising a dye-image receiving layer on its top surface and, beneath the dye-image receiving layer, a microvoided layer containing a continuous phase polymer matrix having dispersed therein crosslinked organic microbeads, wherein the microbeads exhibit a glass transition temperature Tg that is below 80&deg; C. Also disclosed is a method for making such thermal dye-transfer receiving elements.
