The present technique provides a system and method for automatically switching a computer system between multiple display profiles in response to a system event, such as a hardware event. The present technique detects the system event, identifies the hardware configuration of the computer system, and automatically reconfigures the computer system to accommodate the hardware configuration in real-time. The system event may be a physical rotation of a display between landscape and portrait orientations or between viewing and writing orientations. The system event also may be a physical docking or undocking of a first computing device with a second device in a variety of mounting positions. Any suitable sensor, switch, or hardware/software detection mechanism may be used for the foregoing event detection.

System and method of switching between multiple viewing modes in multi-head computer system

The disclosed embodiments provide rapid access to information stored on a personal computing device even though the personal computing device is powered off or otherwise in a low-power consumption state such as a sleep state or hibernation state. An software component gathers user data in a location such as a non-volatile memory associated with a host computer. A browser component accesses the stored data and makes it available to the user when the host computer is powered down or otherwise in a state of low power consumption.

System and method of switching between multiple viewing modes in a multi-head computer system

The disclosed embodiments provide a multiple-position docking station for a tablet personal computing device. A different mode of operation of the tablet personal computing device is supported by different positions of the docking station. A first mode of operation may be supported when the tablet personal computing device is positioned to extend in a more or less perpendicular direction from a work surface. A second mode of operation may be supported when the tablet personal computing device is positioned so that it extends in a more or less parallel direction with respect to a work surface.
