Systems and methods are disclosed for enhancing the consistency of performance of assays, such as multiplexed assays, by printing features in a particular pattern, such that the outer edge of the pattern has a shape that is substantially similar to the shape of the test well. For example, the pattern is a ring pattern, such that the outer edge of the ring pattern is circular or oval along the bottom of multiplexed wells. The assay substrates prepared according to the methods described result in more accurate, precise, and sensitive chemical and/or biological analyses.

Systems and methods to enhance consistency of assay performance

The present disclosure relates to automated systems and methods for washing microtiter plates that offer advantages such as increased efficiency and decreased contamination during the washing process. In an exemplary embodiment, an automated system for washing multiwell plates comprises an arm having a metal portion and having a multiwell plate holder for holding a multiwell plate; a first rotational servo configured to rotate the multiwell plate about a first axis; a second rotational servo configured to rotate the arm about a second axis; and a controller configured to operate the system to dispels fluid in the multiwell plate.

Systems and methods for automatic plate washing

Systems and methods are disclosed for improved detection sensitivity of assays. The systems include an upper plate that is inserted into a well of testing well, such as a base microtiter plate. For bottom detection, a coating, including polymer coatings or membrane coatings, is applied to an insert portion of the upper plate, and the base plate includes transparent windows. In bottom detection, a detector will image from below the base plate. Alternatively, for top detection, the coating is applied to the well of the base plate, and the upper plate includes transparent windows. In top detection, a detector will image from above the upper plate. Analysis features, including capture antibody features or antigen features, can be printed on the coating surface for forward-phase assays or reverse-phase assays, respectively. Methods for making and using the same are disclosed.

Methods of and systems for improved detection sensitivity of assays

The invention relates generally to the field of automated collection and deposition of fluid, semi-solid, and solid samples of biological or chemical materials. More specifically, the invention relates to the field of microarrayers, which are devices for autonomously depositing minute droplets of biological or chemical fluid samples in ordered arrays onto substrates. The invention also relates to tissue arrayers, which are devices for the collection and deposition of solid and semi-solid tissue samples in ordered arrays. Other aspects of the invention relate to fluidics robots, which are devices for the autonomous collection, dispensing and processing of biological or chemical fluid samples. The invention improves the throughput of microarrayers, tissue arrayers, and fluidics robots by providing methods and apparatuses to precisely and repeatably load supplies into the machines.

Apparatus and method for dispensing fluid, semi-solid and solid samples

The disclosed systems and methods allow composite images with enhanced dynamic range to be generated that result in more accurate, reliable, and efficient chemical and/or biological analyses. The disclosed systems include an image detector; a timer for tracking exposure time of the image detector; and computer readable medium, including instructions that when executed cause a computer system to generate a composite image using the multiple images of pixels.

Method of and system for enhanced dynamic range assay analysis

A multi-chambered deposition pin wash station is provided. The wash station includes a lower chamber and an upper drain basin connected by a plurality of wash tubes. Cleaning fluid is provided to the lower chamber and passes through the cleaning tubes into the upper drain basin. The cleaning tubes are adapted to clean a single deposition pin with a single tube per wash cycle.

A system is described for automatic retrieval of microplates from a carousel. The system includes an effector arm that retrieves a selected microplate from the carousel, a microplate retainer that receives the selected microplate from the effector arm, and a controller that directs the effector arm to the carousel for retrieval of the selected microplate and directs the effector arm to the microplate retainer so that it may receive the selected microplate. The carousel may revolve around a vertical axis. A system also is described for washing depositing elements used to spot biological materials on a substrate. Graphical user interfaces also are described for enabling a user to determine which microplates will be used to provide biological probe materials, and in what patterns those probe materials should be deposited on the substrate. The interfaces enable the user to place multiple fractions of biological materials on a same location on a substrate. Also described are graphical user interfaces that present a user with the options to select a first microplate having a plurality of wells, associate at least one probe material with one or more of the wells, and associate one or more locations on one or more substrates with the one or more wells.

Systems and methods are described for processing an emission signal, such as a fluorescent signal, to compensate for noise in an excitation beam, such as a laser beam. As one example, a scanning system is described that includes an excitation signal generator that provides an excitation signal having one or more representative excitation values representative of an excitation beam; an excitation reference provider that provides at least one excitation reference value; a normalization factor generator that compares the excitation reference value to at least one representative excitation value, thereby generating a normalization factor; and a comparison processor that adjusts at least one emission value corresponding to the at least one representative excitation value based, at least in part, on the normalization factor.

System, method, and product for dynamic noise reduction in scanning of biological materials

For depositing fluid dots in an array, e.g., for microscopic analysis, a deposit device, e.g. a pin, cooperating with a fluid source defines a precisely sized drop of fluid of small diameter on a drop carrying surface. Transport mechanism positions the device precisely over the receiving surface and drive mechanism moves the deposit device toward and away from the surface. By repeated action, minute drops of fluid can be deposited precisely in a dense array, preferably under computer control. The drop-carrying surface shown has a diameter less than 375, preferably less than 300, preferably between about 15 and 250 micron, and is bound by a sharp rim that defines the perimeter of the fluid drop. The deposit device is compliant in the direction of deposition motion, e.g. by overcoming resistance of a resilient member. When depositing, the deposit device is laterally constrained to a reference position, e.g. by flexure mounting or the deposit device is mounted to displace from its mounting upon engagement with the receiving surface, and is subject to a lateral force or turning moment that engages the device with a lateral reference surface. A mobile-fluid storage device resupplies the deposit device along the array, e.g. in the immediate vicinity of the deposit locations. Mobile annular storage rings are lowered and raised to obtain a supply of fluid, or a mobile multiwell plate is used. Cleaning mechanism, sampling plans, and array products on microscope slides and fragile or soft membranes are disclosed as are many types of fluid and uses, e.g., in biotechnology, analysis and process control.
