The leading end of a weft thread exiting from a weft insertion channel in an air jet weaving loom is monitored by a weft stop motion positioned in a weft stretching channel directly downstream, as viewed in the weft motion direction, of an exit of the weft insertion channel. The weft stop motion is either an additional weft stop motion monitor or it is the first weft stop motion device repositioned from a location at the exit of the weft insertion channel to a location in the weft stretching channel. In such a position in the weft stretching channel faults or deformations such as a loop in the leading end section of the weft thread are readily or positively detected for generating a respective loom control signal.

The shed formed by the warp threads in a loom is changeable by a shed drive that may either be an eccentric drive or a shaft drive. In order to rapidly exchange one shed drive (,) by another shed drive (,) these shed drives are mounted individually in a respective carriage (,). The carriage is constructed for docking in an exchange position next to the loom. An empty first carriage can take up a shed drive currently cooperating with the loom to remove the shed drive from the loom. A second carriage carrying another shed drive can then dock in the exchange position after the second carriage has been removed. The carriage is positionable either manually or automatically in response to distance signals.

Method and apparatus for rapidly exchanging a shed drive in a heald loom

A fluid jet loom includes a source of pressurized fluid, a magnetic valve, and at least one nozzle, such as a weft insertion air jet nozzle, as well as at least one flexible pressure hose connecting and providing pressurized fluid from the magnetic valve to the nozzle. In order to detect any hole, rupture or separation of the pressure hose, the hose includes at least one electrical conductor embedded in or arranged on the hose wall. An electrical current flows through the electrical conductor, which preferably forms a conductor loop and especially a resonant circuit loop. By monitoring an electrical characteristic, such as the resonant frequency, of the electrical signal received from the conductor loop, any disruption in the pressure hose can be immediately detected as a change in the monitored electrical characteristic, which in turn causes a loom stop signal to be generated.

Method and device for regulating a back rest and/or a drop wire position

A weft thread insertion device for an air jet loom includes a nozzle block mounted on a sley to be movable together therewith. The movable block has a plurality of individual nozzles. Devices supply compressed air to the nozzle block by way of one or more stationary distributor blocks. At least one outlet is associated with the distributor block. Compressed air is supplied through respective flexible pressure lines from the respective outlets to respective inlets of the individual nozzles of the nozzle block. In order to supply air using short pressure lines that do not intersect, the invention provides that the distributor block or blocks so arranged that they at least partially surround nozzle block regardless of the position of the reed.

A method and an apparatus serve to process a catch selvage that has been trimmed from a web being woven on a loom, so as to separate weft thread ends and leno threads from the catch selvage to produce a type-pure weft thread waste and a type-pure leno thread waste or reusable leno threads. The term 'type-pure' refers to a waste material containing a single uncontaminated type or color of thread material, e.g. wool vs. synthetic or blue vs. red. After the catch selvage (1) has been trimmed from the edge (11) of the woven web (2), the leno threads (4, 4') are untwisted from each other by being rotated by an untwisting apparatus (5) in a direction opposite the binding twist applied by the leno device (18). Thereby, the full leno binding (1A) is completely unbound and opened, so as to release the weft thread ends (3A), which are then sucked into a proper one of weft waste collection containers (6B) by a suction pipe (6A), so that only a single type-pure and/or color of weft thread end is collected in each container (6B). The unbound leno threads (4) are collected as a type-pure waste or are rewound on spools to be reused. Alternatively, by using endless closed-loop leno threads (4'), the leno threads (4') are continuously recirculated back to the leno device (18), without intermediately being wound onto spools.

A weft thread insertion nozzle includes a thread supply tube (3) and a mixing tube (8) arranged in axial alignment in a housing (4). An outlet end section (3A) of the thread supply tube (3) reaches into and overlaps an inlet section (8A) of the mixing tube (8), with an airflow channel (5A) provided between the outlet end section (3A) and the inlet section (8A). A plurality of notches (11) or through-holes (13, 14, and 15) are arranged distributed around the circumference of the outlet end section (3A). The jet medium accelerated through the airflow channel (5A) can enter the tube (3) through the notches (11) or holes (13, 14, and 15), whereby the jet medium expands and entrains the weft thread before entering into the mixing tube. By shifting the air expansion and entrainment of the weft thread upstream, turbulence is avoided and the weft thread is more gently and positively entrained so as to improve the performance of the insertion nozzle.

Faults in fabrics such as smooth woven fabrics or pile fabrics caused by transition operational conditions are avoided, especially on air nozzle weaving looms. Such transition operational conditions may occur when rated operating parameters must be changed, for example, due to the use of a different type of weft thread or a change in the weaving pattern and/or weave binding. For this purpose, the weft thread insertion is interrupted only during the duration of the so-called transition operational conditions. Weft insertion is interrupted by performing so-called fluidic or non-fluidic empty or mis-shots. Simultaneously, the warp let-off and the fabric take-up is controlled as a function of the number or duration of the empty or mis-shots in such a way that at this point of time during the transition operating conditions the beat-up edge of the fabric is held in a position away from the beat-up position of the reed.

Tearing of a weft thread between the main nozzle and the insert side of the selvage or insert end of the loom shed is to be avoided when the weft thread has not been properly woven into the fabric. The detection of a faulty weft thread stops the loom and such stopping must not tear the weft thread. For this purpose the signal caused by a faulty weft thread for the loom stoppage is also used for holding available a defined length of weft thread, whereby thread tearing is avoided. The loom is provided with a prespooling device equipped with an electrically controllable thread stopper and a second thread stopper which is adjustable in the circumferential direction and radially on the thread winding body of the prespooling device for providing the defined weft thread length.

A loom for fabrics which are sensitive to loom stopping marks, especially twill fabrics, has a disengagement lever (14) on an eccentric drive mechanism of the loom. The disengagement lever is operated by a controlled driving device, so that it causes all heald frames or shafts of the loom to assume a central shed position when the loom is stopped. Thus, stoppage marks in the fabric are avoided since the heald frames no longer stretch the warp threads during a loom stoppage since the frames are moved to a closed shed position during stoppage.

An air jet weaving loom equipped with a rod-type expander, has a weaving reed forming a weft thread insertion channel. The expander has an extension reaching toward the channel and preferably to about the center of the channel. The extension has a top surface which forms an elongation of a fabric supporting surface of the expander. This arrangement assures that the beat-up or interlacing point is always located about centrally in the weft thread insertion channel.

A material dryer, especially for bulk material, includes a single entrance pressurized drum housing and an endless conveyor for passing the material through the drum housing. The conveyor may include a screen belt. The housing and the dryer components in the housing are divided into identical modular units, except for the entrance and discharge units. Each modular unit includes a tubular housing section, a conveyor section, and a treatment medium handling section for circulating and heating the drying medium such as super-heated steam. The heating and circulating of the treatment medium is individually controllable in each modular unit. The entrance unit is equipped with conveyor belt guides and with a sealed material supply device. The discharge unit is equipped with a belt drive and with a sealed material discharge device.

In a film stretching machine having tentering chains travelling in an endless loop, the forward advance tracks of the tentering chains are laterally adjustably arranged within the machine housing for adjusting to fit different material web widths and for adjusting the lateral or widthwise stretching ratio. The tentering chain reversal guide arrangements at the inlet and outlet ends of the machine are correspondingly laterally slidably adjustable. The return tracks for the tentering chains are arranged outside of the housing in a fixed position and orientation relative to the housing. Straight transition guide portions pivotally connect the stationary return chain tracks to connection points of the respective laterally movable reversal guide arrangement. The straight transition guide portions are each articulated at one end to the respective return chain track and at the other end to the respective reversal guide arrangement. The return chain tracks may be either open or completely closed channels.

A shuttleless loom is equipped with a displacement device for the control member or rail of the clamping device of the gripper, whereby the control rail can be displaced in parallel to the thread inserting motion of the gripper. This displacement of the control rail permits the proper presentation and transfer of the weft threads into the clamping device of the gripper even if the weft thread fan contains a substantial number of weft threads. This control rail displacement in the direction of the thread insertion into the loom shed takes place at each picking or inserting movement of the gripper and is substantially synchronous with the gripper motion after a thread transfer. When the number of threads in the thread fan is relatively small, the displacement device can be switched off.
