The present invention relates to a combination of sensors, a system and a method for monitoring incontinence and physiological parameters. The system includes a plurality of electrodes on an absorbent article including an absorbent core to be worn by a wearer being monitored, a device for electrical connection with the electrodes and for monitoring one or more electrical properties of the electrodes indicative of the occurrence of an incontinence event, an oxygen saturation sensor for monitoring the oxygen saturation of the blood of the wearer, and wherein the operation of the oxygen saturation sensor is controlled according to the body position of the wearer.

Integrated monitoring system

The invention relates to an incontinence monitoring system including a plurality of electrodes on an absorbent article including an absorbent core and a device for electrical connection with the electrodes and monitoring one or more electrical properties of the electrodes. A first set of the electrodes are adapted for detection of wetness associated with urinary incontinence events, and a second set of the electrodes are adapted for detection of faecal incontinence events. The invention also relates to an absorbent article, sensor and device as well as methods for monitoring incontinence.

System for managing incontinence

The invention provides the present invention provides a faecal detection sensor for an absorbent article. The sensor includes a faeces-sensitive material that reacts to the presence of a constituent of faecal matter, wherein the sensor exhibits an electrical property that changes following the reaction of the faeces-sensitive material. In embodiments of the invention the faeces sensitive material is a material that reacts due to the presence of a sulfur-containing compound in faecal matter, such as metallic faeces-sensitive materials, or is a material that reacts with a faecal enzyme and/or other constituents of faecal matter, such as organic faeces-sensitive materials.

Faecal detection sensor

The present invention relates to systems, methods and devices for determining one or more pre-existing characteristics, pre-existing states or both of a combination absorbent article and electrical circuit after connecting an electronic device to the combination absorbent article and electrical circuit. The method and system is particularly, although not exclusively, suitable for determining pre-existing characteristics such as absorbent article size, type, capacity and a pre-existing state such as whether or not the electrical circuit of the combination absorbent article and electrical circuit has been previously connected to the electronic device or another like electronic device. These pre-existing characteristics, pre-existing states or both are derived from measured electrical variables of the electrical circuit which may include one or more components, such as a resistor or a capacitor or a variable such as charge on a capacitor after the connection of an electronic device, which may include a transmitter or a transceiver. The method includes: measuring an electrical variable after connection of an electronic device to the combination article and electrical circuit to generate data indicative of the electrical variable at sequential time values; and processing the data with a processor including applying an If-Then rule based function comprising two or more conditions to determine a pre-existing characteristic, a pre-existing state or both of the combination absorbent article and electrical circuit.

System and method for determining a pre-existing characteristic and pre-existing state of an article

A system for monitoring incontinence in one or more subjects comprises display means; input means operable by a user; one or more transmitters, each transmitter being associated with one or more subjects being monitored; the one or more transmitters being configured to transmit signals containing continence-related data for the one or more subjects, wherein the continence-related data has been obtained over time from a continence sensor associated with an absorbent article worn by each respective subject; a receiver unit configured to receive signals from the one or more transmitters; and processing means in communication with at least the receiver unit, the processing means including a display processor configured to process the received signals and communicate display information to the display means for display of a visual representation of continence-related information derived from continence sensors in the absorbent articles worn by the one or more subjects being monitored. The system may include a volume estimator and means for communicating to a carer a 'risk of wetness leakage' based on e.g. an estimated volume of wetness and e.g. a pad type. Pad type may be communicated to the system automatically by way of a pad type indicator associated with the pad and/or pad/sensor combination.

Incontinence monitoring and assessment

A sensor device for sensing wetness in an absorbent article worn by a subject includes one or more sensing elements; and a coupling for communicating sensor signals between the one or more sensing elements and a receiver. A change in environmental parameter causes a change in electrical behavior of at least one of the sensing elements, which behavior can be analyzed to determine occurrence of a wetness event in the absorbent article. The changes in electrical behavior are communicated in the sensor signals to the receiver. The analysis may be by the receiver or a processor in communication with the receiver. Ideally, the sensing elements include capacitive elements and preferably, resonance circuits.
