A system for identifying, monitoring the health of an individual and providing for the retrieval of information relating to said individual by a plurality of authorized users. The system comprises an identification device and associated hardware and software components. The identification device a skin wearable, waterproof, non-transferable frangible individual identification device comprising (1) an adhesive and marking arranged on a substrate to provide a physiologically perceptible, humanly understandable information related to said individual, and (2) an electronic device having wireless communication capability with the ability to send, receive, and store information, wherein electronic device comprises at least one sensor for taking vital sign data, wherein once applied to skin, removal of the individual renders the identification device inoperable wherein the marking, substrate, and adhesive are biocompatible. The associated hardware includes a plurality of receivers; a computer interface device receiving information from said individual identification device and from said receivers respecting the individual identified by said individual identification device; a computer system coupled to said computer interface device, said computer system including a memory with an algorithm for processing information collected by said computer system; and a separate set of receivers and a separate service rendering system, each output information from their respective receivers to a common database, the contents of said common database being coupled to a computing device which communicates information to and from a central server. In a preferred embodiment, the identification device is a Bluetooth compatible, battery powered, identification and monitoring device measuring temperature, pulse oximetry and heart rate.

Secure systems for contactless identification and vital sign monitoring

The identification device a skin wearable, waterproof, non-transferable frangible individual identification device comprising (1) an adhesive and an ink arranged on a substrate to provide a physiologically perceptible, humanly understandable information related to said individual, and a machine-readable two-dimensional code, wherein said code can be scanned for identification, interaction, information exchange, and instructions and (2) an electronic device having wireless communication capability with the ability to send, receive, and store information, wherein electronic device comprises at least one sensor for taking vital sign data, wherein once applied to skin of the individual said identification device is not removable in one piece rendering the identification device inoperable within said system once removed from skin wherein the ink, substrate, and adhesive are biocompatible. The associated hardware includes a plurality of receivers; a computer interface device receiving information from said individual identification device and from said receivers respecting the individual identified by said individual identification device; a computer system coupled to said computer interface device, said computer system including a memory with an algorithm for processing information collected by said computer system; and a separate set of receivers and a separate service rendering system, each output information from their respective receivers to a common database, the contents of said common database being coupled to a computing device which communicates information to and from a central server. In a preferred embodiment, the identification device is a Bluetooth, battery powered, identification and monitoring device measuring pulse oximetry and heart rate. The system would be particularly useful in a custodial situation wherein the sensor would be applied immediately after custody is taken and data from the sensors would be sent to a an authorize person's (law enforcement, emergency personnel) local device and the central server which would alert both the local device and when needed emergency services with a request for help.

The identification device is encoded with machine-readable identification information and/or other information and may comprise optionally a Noncontact communication device such as RFID or Bluetooth circuit. A plurality of reader devices and said individual identification device provide information respecting the individual or thing identified by the inventive system.

Systems for secure contactless identification and tracking with redundant electronic/visual security mechanisms

A system and method to manage the transitioning the care of an individual in a healthcare setting from one point of care with a particular set of characteristics to another physical location with a different set of characteristics by providing for the retrieval of information relating to an individual by a plurality of authorized users and devices at multiple facilities. The system includes a skin wearable, waterproof, non-transferable frangible individual identification device comprising an adhesive and an ink arranged to provide a physiologically and optically perceptible, humanly understandable, and machine readable information relating to said individual wherein once applied to skin said identification device is not removable in one piece without rendering the device inoperable; a plurality of reader devices; a computer interface device receiving information from said individual identification device and from said reader devices respecting the individual identified by said individual identification device; a computer system coupled to said computer interface device, said computer system including a memory with an algorithm for processing information collected by said computer system; and a separate set of reader devices and a separate service rendering system, each output information from their respective reader devices to a common database, the contents of said common database being coupled to a computing device which communicates information to said plurality of facilities.

An identification device to be adhered to the skin of an animal having a top side and a bottom side comprising: a substrate with a printable surface with biocompatible pigment displaying visually discernible information disposed on the top side of the substrate; biocompatible adhesive on bottom side of substrate; an electronic component below the top side of the substrate comprising an electronic device with the ability to send, receive, and store information; and a carrier sheet, wherein the substrate and the adhesive are flexible, elastic, biocompatible, breathable, and comprised of material allowing for transmission of moisture and vapor at a rate that allows the device stay affixed to the skin for its pre-determined useful timeframe to slow down deterioration of components below substrate and to minimize skin irritation.

A badge of the type comprising a substrate with a top side and a bottom side, an adhesive disposed on the bottom side for adhering the badge to a person, and a visually discernible material disposed on the top side for providing information, has a wireless device carrying first information secured directly or indirectly to said substrate. The visually discernible material comprises a first portion of visually discernible material and a second portion of visually discernible material. The first portion of visually discernible material is positioned, configured and dimensioned to communicate humanly perceptible and humanly readable second information. The second portion of visually discernible material carries third information encoded within the second portion of the visually discernible material and is positioned, configured and dimensioned to be scanned by an optical device in order to the read said third information encoded within the second portion of the visually discernible material. The substrate and/or said wireless device is frangible.

Visually, optically and electronically readable frangible device for affixation to the skin

A frangible single-use cutaneous information device is printed on a support sheet captured by an adhesive layer and adhered to the skin by the adhesive layer. A skin safe contrasting printed dye is deposited onto a release paper layer allowing the dye construct to be released from the paper and applied to the skin. A clear coat layer can also be applied before or after the dyes are deposited on the paper to protect the outer layer. A single apparatus to be applied at point of service using variable data make such a device includes a means for receiving a perforated sheet, an electrostatic image forming and transferring device, a member for fusing the image to the perforated sheet, an adhesive applicator positioned to apply adhesive to the image, and a transport and joining structure that transports the perforated protective sheet and joins it to the perforated sheet at a position overlying the adhesive.

An apparatus for monitoring the activity of a surgeon. At least one wireless sensing unit is provided for monitoring potential damage to a nerve and is located at a first location of a body being operated on by a surgeon. The wireless sensing unit senses a change in the body at the first location resulting from potential damage to the nerve occurring at a second location of the body remote from the first location. The wireless sensing unit produces a wireless sensed change output signal indicative of the change in the body which is received by a receiver and generates a corresponding received output signal. An analyzer unit receives and analyzes the received output signal to determine the change in the body. An indicator responsive to the output of said analyzer unit indicates the change in the body to indicate the potential damage to the nerve the surgeon.

System and method for facial nerve monitoring during facial surgery

In accordance with the invention apparatus is provided for monitoring the activity of a surgeon. The apparatus comprises a plurality of wireless sensing units for producing an output indicative of nerve stimulation. A receiver takes the output of the receiver units and produces at its output a plurality of signals each corresponding to the output of one of the plurality of wireless sensing units. An analyzer unit receives the plurality of signals each corresponding to the output of one of the plurality of wireless sensing units from the receiver. An indicator responds to the output of the analyzer unit.

System and method for facial nerve monitoring

A holder for an ablation device includes an inner cavity having a first opening formed therethrough, in which the inner cavity is adapted to receive an ablation device. In an embodiment, the holder may include a first outer cavity surrounding the inner cavity. In another embodiment, the holder may include a tip portion having a second opening formed therethrough, in which the tip portion is formed at a first end of the holder and extends beyond the inner cavity, such that a reaction chamber is formed between the first opening and the second opening. A surgical device includes a holder for an ablation device, which includes an inner cavity having a first opening formed therethrough, in which the inner cavity is adapted to receive an ablation device. The surgical device also includes an ablation device disposed within the inner cavity. In an embodiment, the holder may include a first outer cavity surrounding the inner cavity. In another embodiment, the holder may include a tip portion having a second opening formed therethrough, in which the tip portion is formed at a first end of the holder and extends beyond the inner cavity, such that a reaction chamber is formed between the first opening and the second opening.

An apparatus and method for the treatment of cellulite. The connective tissue subjacent to the dermis provides a barrier resisting protrusion of adipose tissue located beneath the dermis. Such connective tissue is generated or strengthened by applying radiation of appropriate frequency to disrupt or otherwise destroy normal cells within or underlying the dermis adjacent to the interface between the dermis and the subcutaneous adipose tissue, or exclusively within the subcutaneous fat or dermis. Following cell destruction, the body's repair mechanism causes a sheet-like fibrous layer to form at the site of cell destruction which is resistant to the protrusion of depot fat underlying the fibrous layer into the dermis. The technique may be useful for other cosmetic procedures which benefit from a contraction or stabilization of the skin or tissue immediately underlying the epidermis, such as facelifts or strengthening of flaccid tissue.

Apparatus and method for preventing and treating cellulite

A method and apparatus for the non-invasive treatment of varicose veins. The vibrational energy in acoustic waves emanating from one or more source of ultrasonic energy is focused beneath the skin to cause localized heating and tissue disruption and/or destruction in and around the varicosed segment of the vein, particularly the venous endothelium. The localized tissue destruction is followed by localized fibrosis in and around the dilated portion of the varicosed vessel. The ultrasound-induced fibrosis includes thickening and loss of elasticity of the vascular wall. If a sufficiently high dosage of ultrasound energy is delivered to the vein, the varicosed portion of the vessel will be obliterated, providing a therapeutic result similar to that obtained by injection sclerotherapy or vein stripping. Alternatively, focused ultrasound may be used to induce fibrosis in the tissue overlying the varicosed vessel thereby providing a relatively inelastic barrier which resists unsightly deformation of the skin overlying the varicose vein due to venous dilation.
