A bow taper having a clamping and cut-off station wherein the tape is pulled from a clamping and cut-off station to an extended position to provide a length of tape extending between said clamping and cut-off station to said extended position, and is clamped via a clamp in the station so that when the tape is applied to a case positioned to be taped by said taper on a leading corner of the case that is adjacent to said extended position tension is applied to a free span of tape between the leading corner and the clamp, cutting off tape adjacent to said clamping and cut-off station to leave a free end and releasing said clamp from clamping said tape.

A gripping system uses a pin mounting block having at least one passage for accommodating holding pins of a holding pin member that cooperate with a dome to hold a laminate ply there between, the improvement being a releasable latch positioned to engage the pin member and hold the pin member in an operative positions and being releasable to release the pin member. Various forms of pin members may be used. In a preferred form, a gripper is provided positioned adjacent to holding pins and moveable between a retracted position and an operative position wherein the gripper member grips the laminate ply.

A case forming machine is disclosed wherein a pusher engages a trailing panel of a case with its bottom flaps folded to closed position and provided the sole means for moving the case from the folding station through a bottom taping systems thereby eliminating the need for the conventional belt drive used to move the case through the taping station.

A case forming machine for erecting cases from knock down case form to an open form and move an opened case downward to a bottom forming station using a fixed and a moveable jaw system is improved by providing a plurality of radially spaced, concentric stabilizer bars fixed to the fixed jaw and arranged to form concentric segments of circles centered on the pivotal axis of the moveable jaw and having their bottom edges in a radial plane relative to the pivotal axis. Also provided is a micrometer type adjustment mechanism that is used for adjusting the gap between the fixed and moveable jaws when the jaws are in the parallel pick-up position.

A method and apparatus for squaring knocked down slotted boxes employs an L-shaped support and forming platform onto which a partially opened box is applied so that the junction of the two legs of the L-shape is received within the box and a leading flap (and its fold line connection to the box) and a trailing flap (and its fold line connection to the box) each contact one of the legs to fold these flaps outward and tend to square the box. The trailing flap is moved from one leg onto the other which normally will be substantially flat and horizontal so that the leading and trailing flaps are folded perpendicular to the axis of the sleeve portion of the box while the side flaps positioned between the leading and trailing flaps remain in the plane of their respective box wall as the carton is moved into an operating station.

Method and apparatus for setting up a carton

A tape applying mechanism employs a puller having a gripper that grips the free end of a tape and then pulls it from a pickup position along a path into an extended position. A pressure bar then moves across the path and forces the tape against the surface of an article, preferably the pressure bar will include a pair of end wipers to wipe end sections of the tape along a pair of sides of the article in a direction substantially perpendicular to the first or major surface of the article. The device is particularly suited for applying a sealing tape to a carton wherein the side of the tape facing the article or carton has an adhesive surface.

Taper

A display unit for exhibiting a plurality of display materials on a parallel planes spaced relative to each other as well as relative to a wall or other surface. The display unit includes a base, securable to the surface and a plurality of substantially identical spacer elements. The spacer elements are removably securable to one another in a stackable relationship. Each spacer element includes facilities for receiving and aligning other spacer elements in registration therewith and removably securing the spacer elements to one another as well as the base. A mounting facility securable to the spacer elements includes a transparent window for exhibiting the display material. In an additional feature, the display unit base includes a reversible backing member which is removably secured thereto to provide a variety of colored or textured backgrounds upon which to exhibit the display material. Each spacer element in a stack may be identical to the other spacer elements in that stack, or it may only have one dimension that is identical to a dimension of an element directly therebelow.

An automatic case erector and sealer apparatus useful in the erecting of packaging cases, boxes and cartons from flats, utilizing case puncturing and gripping pins, spraying adhesive onto the interior surfaces of the case flaps, while the flaps are in a semi-open position, and sealing the minor and major flaps of the erected flats with compression to thereby secure the major and minor flaps for subsequent filling of the formed case, box or carton with consumer goods.

Automatic case erector and sealer

This invention is directed to a high speed cold adhesive curing process and apparatus therefor, useful in the assembly and fastening together of fibrous surfaces such as the surfaces of corrugated Kraft paper cardboard boxes. The invention is directed to a process for adhering two fibrous surfaces together by means of a liquid cold cure adhesive comprising: (a) spraying liquid cold cure adhesive on the interface surface of one of the fibrous surfaces in a thin discrete particle pattern; and (b) pressing the two fibrous surfaces together under high pressure sufficient to cause the solvent carrier in the cold cure adhesive to disperse into the interstices of the fibres of the two surfaces, thereby enabling the cold cure adhesive particles to rapidly secure the two surfaces together.
