Stabilization and use of heterogeneous liquid compositions

Soil adjacent to an elongated furrow is irrigated by flowing the water from a header into and along the furrow, and erosion of the furrow is reduced and infiltration into the soil is increased by dissolving solid flocculant in the header or in the furrow into the water. The solid flocculant is best provided as a block of particulate flocculant bonded by a water-soluble wax. The irrigation process is best conducted on a cyclic basis with the solid flocculant being removed from the header or furrow during the cycle and with the supply of water being continued so that there is subsequent run-off of water from the furrow.

Irrigation process

The systemic activity of systemic active ingredients in sprayed foliar systemic compositions is improved by incorporating water soluble polyacrylamide in the sprayed composition. The polyacrylamide can have a molecular weight sufficiently low that its presence does not substantially affect the spray pattern of the composition, and the polyacrylamide can have low solution viscosity such that a convenient concentrate can comprise an aqueous solution of the active ingredient and the polymer. Alternatively, the polymer can be supplied as a powder or as a reverse phase emulsion or dispersion. The sprayable composition is preferably formulated such that the spray droplets have a small particle size.

Sprayable agricultural compositions

The systemic activity of systemic active ingredients in sprayed foliar systemic compositions is improved by incorporating water soluble polymer. The polymer can have a molecular weight sufficiently low that its presence does not substantially affect the spray pattern of the composition and such that the polymer can initially be supplied as an aqueous solution having 1 to 25% concentration. When the active ingredient is water soluble, for instance glyphosate or chlormequat, a concentrate can comprise an aqueous solution of the active ingredient and the polymer.

A particulate composition comprises particles having a substantially anhydrous core comprising an active ingredient. Generally the core comprises a matrix polymer with the active ingredient distributed throughout this. Generally there is an outer protection shell of polymer, generally formed by coacervation. The invention is a value for the production of powders, dispersions in non-aqueous liquids (for instance when the active ingredient is a detergent enzyme) and dispersions in water (for instance when the active ingredient is an agrochemical.

Particulate composition comprising a core of matrix polymer with active

Agrochemical and other particulate compositions are formed by coacervation. The coacervate is preferably formed from two water soluble coacervating polymers and stabilizes the particles against agglomeration. The coacervate is preferably formed from a relatively low molecular weight cationic polymer and a relatively high molecular weight anionic polymer.

Particulate materials, their production and use

A compound that is the water insoluble hydrochloride addition salt of the dihydrogen ferric complex of diethylene triamine penta-acetic acid, DTPAH.sub.5, namely DTPAFeH.sub.3 Cl, which has been made in pure form from DTPANa.sub.5, and which can be used in an agricultural nutrient composition.

Chelate compositions and their production

Silage effluent is retained within the silo by adding a water-absorbent, water-swellable particles of synthetic polymer with the grass, maize etc. Preferably the polymer is an acrylic acid polymer or a dimethylaminoethyl acrylate polymer. The polymer may be used in conjunction with other additives e.g. lactic-acid producing bacterial inoculants, acid compounds or sterilizing compositions.
