Provided herein are examples of metal chelating ligands that have high affinity for manganese. The resultant metal complexes can be used as MRI contrast agents, and can be functionalized with moieties that bind to or cause relaxivity change in the presence of biochemical targets.

Collagen imaging compositions

A system acquires MR imaging data of a portion of patient anatomy associated with proton spin lattice relaxation time in a rotating frame using an RF (Radio Frequency) signal generator configured to generate RF excitation pulses and a magnetic field gradient generator configured to generate anatomical volume select magnetic field gradients for phase encoding and readout RF data acquisition. System for optimized low power MR imaging

Manganese coordination complexes with utility as magnetic resonance probes and as biological reductant sensors are disclosed. In one embodiment, ligands can stabilize both the Mnand Mnoxidation states. In the presence of a reductant such as glutathione, low relaxivity Mn-HBET is rapidly converted to high relaxivity Mn-HBET with a 3-fold increase in relaxivity, and concomitant increase in magnetic resonance signal. In another embodiment, ligands were designed to chelate Mn(ll) in a thermodynamically stable and kinetically inert fashion while allowing for direct interaction of Mn(ll) with water. In yet another embodiment, high molecular weight multimers containing six Mn(ll) chelators were prepared. The high molecular weight results in slower tumbling of the molecules in solution and can strongly enhance the Mn(ll) relaxivity.

This invention relates to MRI-based methods and systems useful for diagnosing and clinically assessing the presence, location, and size of cardiovascular disease-associated stationary targets, e.g., thrombi and atherosclerotic lesions, within the vascular system. Methods and systems of the invention allow for improved anatomical information to be obtained from MRI images and allow the clinician to develop more effective treatment plans. In one aspect, the invention provides a method of determining the presence or absence of a stationary target within the vascular system of a mammal wherein two MRI data sets representing images of the vascular system and the stationary target are acquired after administration of a targeted MRI contrast agent. In another embodiment, both a targeted MRI contrast agent and a vascular MRI contrast agent are administered to a mammal, and both a vascular MRI and a targeted MRI data set are acquired.
