A liquefied natural gas compression system includes: a first gas turbine that drives a rotary machine; a first steam boiler including a first heat recovery steam generator that recovers heat from exhaust gas from the first gas turbine; a first steam turbine that drives a first refrigerant compressor; a common header steam line through which steam from the first steam boiler flows to an inlet of the first steam turbine; an auxiliary steam line; and a letdown valve that connects the common header steam line to the auxiliary steam line and that opens in response to pressure of the common header steam line exceeding a predetermined threshold value.

Liquefied natural gas compression system

An exemplary embodiment of the present techniques provides a system for decreasing a temperature of a fluid. The system includes an axial flow expander for expanding gas flowed in a direction along an axis thereof. The axial flow expander includes: an outer casing made as a unified structure having an inlet port and an outlet port. An inner casing is fixed inside the outer casing. A rotor shaft is accommodated inside the inner casing, and is aligned with the axis. A number of bearings allow the rotor shaft to rotate around the axis. Moving blades protrude from the rotor shaft and are arranged inside the gas passage in an alternating fashion with a number of stator vanes. The inner casing, the rotor shaft, the bearings, the stator vanes, and the moving blades are integrally assembled, and inserted into the outer casing in the direction along the axis.

Systems and methods of utilizing axial flow expanders

The present application is directed to a method and system for preparing gaseous utility streams from gaseous process streams, particularly, removing oil contamination from such streams prior to use in a dry gas seal. The methods and systems may include at least one kinetic swing adsorption process including pressure swing adsorption, temperature swing adsorption, calcination, and inert purge processes to treat gaseous streams for use in dry gas seals of rotating equipment such as compressors, turbines and pumps and other utilities. The adsorbent materials used include a high surface area solid structured microporous and mesoporous materials.

Method and apparatus for removal of oil from utility gas stream

Provided is a natural gas processing facility for the liquefaction or regasification of natural gas. The facility includes a primary processing unit, e.g., refrigeration unit, for warming natural gas or chilling natural gas to at least a temperature of liquefaction. The facility also has superconducting electrical components integrated into the facility. The superconducting electrical components incorporate superconducting material so as to improve electrical efficiency of the facility by at least one percent over what would be experienced through the use of conventional electrical components. The superconducting electrical components may be one or more motors, one or more generators, one or more transformers, switch gears, one or more electrical transmission conductors, variable speed drives, or combinations thereof.

Superconducting system for enhanced natural gas production

A hydrocarbon processing method, including processing a gaseous hydrocarbon stream to form a first production stream and a first injection stream; and compressing the first injection stream in a compressor placed at a selected location below a surface of a sea; wherein the location of the subsea compressor relative to a nearest inhabited area is determined based on a bubble plume trajectory of a model leak of the first injection stream from the compressor; and wherein the bubble plume trajectory is determined using one or more crossflow momentum parameters is disclosed herein. Also disclosed are hydrocarbon processing facilities having subsea compressors placed at such selected locations, processes for designing such hydrocarbon processing facilities, and a mathematical model useful in such methods, processes, and facilities.

Subsea sour gas and/or acid gas injection systems and methods

Methods and systems for low emission power generation in hydrocarbon recovery processes are provided. One system includes integrated pressure maintenance and miscible flood systems with low emission power generation. An alternative system provides for low emission power generation, carbon sequestration, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), or carbon dioxide sales using a hot gas expander and external combustor. Another alternative system provides for low emission power generation using a gas power turbine to compress air in the inlet compressor and generate power using hot carbon dioxide laden gas in the expander. Other efficiencies may be gained by incorporating heat cross-exchange, a desalination plant, co-generation, and other features.

Low emission power generation and hydrocarbon recovery systems and methods

The present application is directed to a method and system for preparing gaseous utility streams from gaseous process streams, nitrogen process streams, and other types of streams. The methods and systems may include at least one swing adsorption process including pressure swing adsorption, temperature swing adsorption, and rapid-cycle adsorption processes to treat gaseous streams for use in dry gas seals of rotating equipment such as compressors, turbines and pumps and for other utilities. The systems and processes of the present disclosure are further applicable to high pressure gaseous streams, for example, up to about 600 bar.

Methods of generating and utilizing utility gas

One or more methods, systems and computer readable mediums are utilized to provide treatment of a subterranean formation that contains solid organic matter, such as oil shale, tar sands, and/or coal formation. The treatment of the formation includes heating a treatment interval within the subterranean formation with one or more electrical in situ heaters. Available power, or other production resources, for the electrical heaters are determined at regular, predetermined intervals. Heating rates of the one or more electrical heaters are selectively controlled based on the determined available power at each regular, predetermined interval and based on an optimization model that outputs optimal heating rates for each of the electrical heaters at the determined available power.

Converting organic matter from a subterranean formation into producible hydrocarbons by controlling production operations based on availability of one or more production resources

A drive system for a refrigeration compressor such as is used in a natural gas liquefaction plant, allowing the desired compressor speed and maximum turbine efficiency to be maintained throughout varying ambient temperature conditions. A gas turbine is used with an electric starter motor with drive-through capability located on a common drive shaft between the turbine and the compressor. A variable frequency drive (VFD) is connected between the electrical power grid and the electric motor for smooth startups, but also to allow excess turbine mechanical power to be converted to electrical power by the motor operating as a generator, and delivered to the grid at the grid frequency. Pulse width modulation technology may be used to reduce harmonic distortion in the VFD's output. The starter motor also functions as a helper motor when the turbine output is insufficient to drive the compressor at the rotational speed needed to meet throughput requirements.
