A two-piece expanding lock control cable end fitting for connecting a co-axial cable assembly with a support structure. The first piece is a sleeve that is attached, typically by crimping, to the conduit member. The second part is a lock clip member. The lock clip member includes a base flange, a cylindrical portion and an inclined portion. During assembly the base flange on the clip member will contact the mating part and prevent the clip member from traveling through the mating part. The mating part could be a backing plate, a frame member, or brake lever component. When the clip member stops traveling through the mating part, the sleeve continues to move through the clip member. The end of the sleeve contacts the inclined portion of the clip member causing the clip member to expand. When the sleeve it is fully seated in the clip member, a locking feature on the clip member engages the sleeve to prevent removal of the sleeve from the clip member.

Expanding lock control cable end fitting

A vehicle hood latch and release mechanism is latched when the hood striker engages the latch portion of the mechanism as the hood is moved to its closed position. The mechanism is actuated to release the hood striker by a pushing action on the cable or strand movable in the sheath of a cable assembly rather than by the typical pulling action on current hood releasing mechanisms. The pushing action is obtained with actuation of a hood latching and releasing control, by movement of a handle which operatively pushes on the cable or strand, transmitting a longitudinally compressive force rather than a longitudinally tensional force to the latch mechanism and moving that mechanism to the striker-released position. Release of the control permits one or more springs to cause the control handle to be returned to its position wherein the latching and release mechanism is ready to again be latched to the hood striker. The handle is also in this position when the latching mode of the hood latching and releasing mechanism latches the hood striker to hold the hood closed. Modifications of the hood latching and releasing control are disclosed.

Hood latch and release mechanism and operating system including same

An end fitting for use in a remote control cable assembly of the type having a control cable that includes a conduit and a wire-like strand or core element. The end of the strand is typically attached to a slider rod that extends within a swivel tube. The swivel tube is supported within a swivel socket provided in the end fitting. The end fitting allows for easy rotation of the end fitting relative to the axis of the conduit and provides for isolation against noise and vibration transmission, while not adding additional lash into the cable system from the rotating end fitting joint. The end fitting has four pieces, a molded sleeve, conduit isolator, outer fitting (side entry fitting) and end cap. The conduit isolator, end cap, molded outer fitting and molded sleeve, are toleranced such that when they are assembled, they have a slight interference and thus reduce the lash generated by the rotational joint. The conduit isolator further is manufactured from a resilient material that isolates against transmission of vibration/noise and can be easily compressed by a snap fitting operation.

Low lash rotating conduit end fitting for a remote control cable

An end fitting for use in a remote control cable assembly of the type having a control cable that includes a conduit and a wire-like strand or core element. The end of the strand is typically attached to a slider rod that extends within a swivel tube. The swivel tube is supported within a swivel socket provided in the end fitting. The end fitting allows for easy rotation of the end fitting relative to the axis of the conduit without adding additional lash into the cable system from the rotating end fitting joint. The end fitting has two pieces, a molded sleeve and a rotating fitting. The molded sleeve is fastened directly onto and along the longitudinal axis of the conduit such that the molded sleeve is fixed against longitudinal movement relative said conduit end. The molded sleeve includes a partial spherical ball portion and a cylindrical portion. The rotating fitting is rotatably disposed about the molded sleeve and is used to attach the conduit end to a support structure. The rotating fitting includes a partial spherical cavity portion for receiving the spherical portion of the molded sleeve and a cylindrical cavity for receiving the cylindrical portion of the molded sleeve. The partial spherical ball portion of the molded sleeve and the partial spherical cavity portion of the rotating fitting mate together to form a partial spherical or annular snap fit.

Zero lash joint for a rotating conduit fitting for a remote control

An improved non-jamming self-adjust pawl and ratchet mechanism for use in an automotive parking brake system or the like, includes cam-out and cam-in devices that are spaced to define an overlap dwell distance to insure suitable engagement between the adjuster pawl and the adjuster ratchet as a foot or hand brake operating lever is pivoted from a brake disengaged position toward a brake fully-engaged position. In the case of the foot-operated lever, the spacing distance between the cam-out and cam-in devices is greater than the bounce-back travel distance of the lever upon the removal of cable tension load thereon.
