Methods for determining the presence of an unmeasured chemical in an environment can include receiving a plurality of sensor readings from a plurality of chemical sensors, wherein each chemical sensor of the plurality of chemical sensors is configured to detect a different chemical, determining a cross-sensitivity pattern from one or more unmeasured chemicals in the plurality of sensor readings, comparing the cross-sensitivity pattern with one or more known chemical patterns, determining that the cross-sensitivity pattern matches at least one of the one or more known chemical patterns that correspond to one or more chemicals, and identifying one or more unmeasured chemicals based on determining that the cross-sensitivity pattern matches the at least one of the one or more known chemical patterns.

System for integrating multiple chemical sensor data to detect an unmeasured compound

A gas detecting system includes a detector having a housing, a sensor module, a controller, energy storage, and a photoelectric conversion component. The photoelectric conversion component may be mounted in or on the housing to provide electrical power to the energy storage while the energy storage powers the detector. Accordingly, the photoelectric conversion component can extend working time of the detector beyond the normal capabilities of the energy storage alone. The gas detecting system may further include a charger that provides concentrated light for charging or operation of the detector.

Photoelectrically-charging gas detector

A photoionization detector is disclosed. The photoionization detector comprises a detector electrode that outputs a signal, an ultraviolet lamp, a lamp driver communicatively coupled to the ultraviolet lamp and configured to turn the ultraviolet lamp on and off in response to a control input, and a controller that is communicatively coupled to the output signal of the detector electrode and to the control input of the lamp driver, that outputs an indication of gas detection based on the output signal of the detector electrode, and that turns the lamp driver on and off with an on duty cycle of less than 10%.

A method of limiting noise damage to an individual includes receiving, by an ototoxicity application stored in a non-transitory memory and executed on a processor, a first individual exposure level to a first oto-toxic condition in an area, correlating the first individual exposure level to an ototoxic effect, determining a noise level threshold based on the correlating, receiving a noise level exposure in the area, comparing the noise level threshold with the noise level exposure, and sending an alert when the noise level exposure exceeds the noise level threshold. The noise level threshold is below a standard noise level threshold.

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to systems and methods for isolating a base station beacon and gas reading transmission channel(s) based on a single radio wireless gas detection system. A gas detector may communicate on a first channel (e.g. a beacon channel) constantly listening to the base station beacon information. At a pre-defined interval (e.g. every 60 seconds), the gas detector radio may switch to a second channel (e.g. a data channel) to transmit gas reading data as well as the base station information to a central server. Software on the server may complete a triangulation algorithm to determine the location of the gas detector, using information obtained by the detector from the beacons.

Wireless mesh network gas detection real time location system

Embodiments relate generally to systems and methods for communication between one or more personal protection equipment (PPE) devices, a mobile device, and a central monitoring station. Personnel may wear PPE devices for detection and communication. These portable devices may communicate wirelessly, over a wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) network, via Bluetooth, or another wireless connection. Systems may include a smartphone application operable to receive and combine information from each of the PPE devices. The application may also display the information to the user. In some embodiments, the application may transfer the data to a cloud storage network via a cellular network. Additionally, the application may communicate the combined data from all of the PPE devices to the central monitoring station.

An integrated sensor of volatile organic gas can include a photoionization detector (PID) and one or more additional detectors such as an infrared detector, a catalytic combustion detector, or an electrochemical detector. One embodiment includes a methane detector that allows correction of the PID measurements for the interference of methane with the PID and/or allows a combination of measurements of the sensors to measure a total hydrocarbon concentration. A further sensor of non-hydrocarbon quenching gases such as carbon dioxide may also be used in correction of the PID measurements.

Interference compensated photoionization detector

A radiation detector can perform both rate and dose measurements for personal safety and also to provide measurements that are sufficiently sensitive for security applications. In one embodiment, a radiation detector has a first measurement channel and a second measurement channel, where the second measurement channel can measure radiation at levels that would saturate the first measurement channel. The detector can automatically switch between the high and low sensitivity channels while continuously integrating the measured rates to determine a radiation dose. The detector can also conserve power by automatically shutting off the unused measurement channel and still give a personal safety warning when the radiation rate or the dose reaches respective alarm thresholds.

Combined radiation dosimeter and rate meter

An oxygen sensor includes a solid polymer electrolyte, e.g., on an acid treated Nafion membrane and uses a diffusion-limited fuel cell type reactions. The sensor avoids electrolyte leakage and avoids consumption of electrodes. In different configurations, a counter or reference electrode can be on the same or the opposite side of the electrolyte as a sensing electrode. An insert limits and controls oxygen diffusion into a sensing chamber containing the sensing electrode that catalyzes reduction of oxygen. Applying appropriate bias voltages to the reference and sensing electrodes causes an output current of the sensing electrode to be proportional to the rate of oxygen consumption based on Frick's law under a diffusion-limited mode. The output current can be measured, e.g., using a resistor to convert the current to a voltage signal.

Solid polymer electrolyte oxygen sensor

A photo-ionization detector having an adjustable drive power for a UV lamp implements a calibration operation that determines measurement signals for a series of drive power levels and based on the resulting measurement signals selects one or more drive power levels for normal operation of the PID. The calibration operation permits use of UV lamps having a wider range of performance levels and thereby improves manufacturing yields and extends the useful life of the PID. During normal operation, the PID further fine-tunes the drive power level to compensate for expected or measured degradation in lamp performance. Accordingly, between calibrations, the PID maintains a more uniform UV intensity for more accurate measurements. To expand the measurement range of the PID, the calibration process can select two or more power levels for use when measuring different gas concentrations.

Automatic drive adjustment of ultraviolet lamps in photo-ionization detectors

A photo-ionization detector (PID) including two detection units controls gas flows through the ionization chambers of the detection units for real-time self-cleaning and measurement. Operation of the PID can include flowing gas through the ionization chamber of one detection unit to measure the volatile gas concentration while stopping gas flow through the ionization chamber of the other detection unit. A UV lamp converts oxygen contained in the closed ionization chamber to ozone, which removes contamination in the closed ionization chamber, Continuous gas flows can alternate between one ionization chamber to the other. Alternatively, a PID with only one gas detection unit intermittently interrupts the flow of the ambient gas in the ionization chamber.

Photo-ionization detector and method for continuous operation and real-time self-cleaning

A gas analysis system and method use foreground broadband gas monitoring and background selective gas analysis. The foreground broadband monitoring indicates concentrations of a class of chemicals or contaminants in a gas sample, provides real-time warnings of contaminants, and can activate the background selective analysis. Separate broadband detectors and gas analyzers can respectively perform broadband monitoring and selective analysis. To reduce system components, a broadband detector that performs broadband monitoring switches to measure concentrations of chemicals output from a separation device for the selective analysis.
