The present invention proposes a methodology implementable in form of a hardware or software module for inhibiting interruption of a running application by an event according to a selected non-disturbance profile, said event occurring on a mobile device.

A communication apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus has an input/output (I/O) controller and a processor hosting a number of applications. The I/O controller responds to messages encoded according to a defined markup language. The applications communicate using the structure of the defined markup language.

The invention relates to a controlling arrangement for a music player application in a mobile communication device. To improve the control of the music player, a multifunctional soft button () with four switching positions (up, down left and right) and a mode switching arrangement () are provided on the keyboard layout (). The application can be switched in two different modes with the switching arrangement and can be controlled with the multifunctional soft button, the latter having different functionality depending on the mode of the application. Combined functionality of the multifunctional soft button from the first and second mode is also possible. Additional symbols related to the music player functionality are printed in different colors on the multifunctional soft switch.

The present invention relates to a mobile communication device having a keyboard and a method for controlling the operation of the keyboard of such a mobile communication device. The keyboard provides a QWERTY styled layout including a keypad similar to a ITU-T keypad. Applications executed on the mobile communication device are adapted to switch an operation mode of the keyboard such that in accordance with a certain expected information input, different assignments of the keys of the keyboard are active. The keyboard operation modes improve the usability of the keyboard and allow the number of total keys for operating the mobile communication device to be reduced resulting in lowered cost of manufacture.

Electronic organiser () with a calendar () in which appointments at least according to date, time and an individual description, for example a person to be visited, are variable. If the organiser () is provided with an interface () which can exchange data in respect of the appointments with an interface () existing on another device (), the data recorded in the calendar () can be used to run the other device or the electronic organiser () can be controlled by the other device. Thus for example data recorded in the calendar () can be used by a navigation system for faster input of the destination, or for example departure appointments can be changed by the other device according to the traffic or other situations.

The invention relates to a method for inputting data into a system. In order to make it easier for users to input data, the invention provides that, in response to an input by a user, one or more terms which are as appropriate as possible for this input are determined as identified terms, that a confidence value is defined for each of these identified terms, and that the terms associated with an input are dealt with further, taking account of their confidence values.

The invention relates to a navigation system, a terminal and a processing device for a navigation system, as well as a method for displaying navigation icons on display means of a terminal. In order to make efficient use of the storage space in the terminal and to allow flexible display of navigation icons, the storage of partial graphics in the terminal is proposed, with navigation icons being able to be composed from said partial graphics. To display a currently suitable navigation icon, the required partial graphics are then selected and composed to form the navigation icon. A processing device according to the invention is able to provide information which makes it possible for the terminal to determine the required partial graphics. System and method for providing and displaying navigation information

A method of composing messages for speech output and the improvement of the quality of reproduction of speech outputs. A series of original sentences for messages is segmented and stored as audio files with search criteria. The length, position, and transition values for the respective segments can be recorded and stored. A sentence to be reproduced is transmitted in a format corresponding to the format of the search criteria. It is determined whether the sentence to be reproduced can be fully reproduced by one segment or a succession of stored segments. The segments found in each case are examined using their entries as to how far the individual segments match as regards speech rhythm. The audio files of the segments in which the examination resulted in the pre-requisites for optimal maintaining of the natural speech rhythm are combined and output for reproduction.

Reassembling speech sentence fragments using associated phonetic property

The invention specifies a simple reproduction method with improved pronunciation for voice-controlled systems with text-based speech synthesis even when the stored train of characters to be synthesized does not follow the general rules of speech reproduction. According to the invention, the method of &ldquo;copying&rdquo; the original spoken input text into the otherwise synthesized reproduction text, which is the current state of the art, is avoided, which will significantly increase the acceptance of the user of the voice-controlled system due to the process invented. More specifically, when there is actual spoken speech input that corresponds to a stored train of characters, the converted train of characters is compared to the speech input before reproduction of the train of characters described phonetically according to general rules and converted to a purely synthetic form. When the converted train of characters is found to deviate from the speech input by a value above a threshold value, at least one variation of the converted train of characters is created. This variation is then output instead of the converted train of characters as long as this variation deviates from the speech input by a value below the threshold value.
